All the rest were savagely put down. Yet other revolts happened later, also bloodily repressed. Texas maintained its independence until financial necessity and continued Mexican attempts to reconquer Texas (as in, their original settlement was as much a conquest as anything else) led it to request annexation by the United States. So by no means did the US seize Texas so much as Mexico alienated and lost it, though not by lack of brutality. It's not by accident that Mexicans and "Chicano" activists and La Raza racists refer to efforts to reclaim states from California to Texas as La Reconquista. After all, they conquered them fair and square and how dare anybody take those lands from them? And more important, why did he lie to Pence leaving Pence to go on the Sunday shows, repeat the lies and thereby wreck his own credibility? At that point what could Trump do but fire him? Unless I am missing something, this was an unforced error by Flynn. All he ever had to do was say that in preparation for his job he talked to lots of his counterparts, some a number of times and he listened to whatever they wanted to talk about, sometimes asked questions and said as does every incoming Administration does, the Trump Administration would be reviewing foreign policies, including sanctions. Period. Apparently that's more or less what he did. Why the lies about it? And the saga is odd. Trump apparently knew for a while. Why didn't he simply say that or tell Flynn to do so? How did it fall to Pence to go out and defend Flynn? And on lies? I think there is something odd or missing in what we know about this saga. (And no, I don't think Flynn was cutting deals with Russia.)<br />Mshernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1400985529434569506.post-79874032983797148322017-02-16T12:29:08.152-05:002017-02-16T12:29:08.152-05:00According to our 26th president, there's no ro...According to our 26th president, there's no room in America for hyphenated Americanism.TheOtherSeanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07141473483312725136noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1400985529434569506.post-54971514146033232342017-02-16T10:37:40.714-05:002017-02-16T10:37:40.714-05:00In general we need all our immigrants to Americani...In general we need all our immigrants to Americanize more thoroughly--and our native-born citizens, too.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1400985529434569506.post-3561456542565682672017-02-16T10:34:51.502-05:002017-02-16T10:34:51.502-05:00We also need to do a great deal to dissolve that a...We also need to do a great deal to dissolve that anti-Americanism, and even the cohesion, of the "Mexican diaspora," as the professoriate calls it.
