Obama's Osama Moment

I am very happy that Osama has been gunned down. I think the US military and the (deservedly) much-maligned CIA deserve a lot of credit. They conducted what appears to be a classic Hollywood-style operation. They kept it secret; they kept the damage to a minimum; they all came back alive; they got their target.

Disregard the nonsense you will hear about this action strengthening the Islamists: this is a major blow against AQ, one that will have huge repercussions not only in what's left of the organization, but throughout the "Islamist Community" (Is that the politically correct phrase? I don't want to insult anybody.)  If, in fact, the death of Islamist leaders only strengthens the cause, then, I, humbly suggest, they do their a cause a favor, and all die.  It would be a win-win, no?

Obama couldn't help being Obama. His way-too-long statement last night was about--who else?--Obama. "I," "at my direction," and on and on . . . One can only think about how President Bush would have handled it: he would have given credit to the brave and skilled people who carried out the operation, and gotten off stage in about 5 minutes. He was a class act; Obama is not.  Obama, after all, was only carrying out the policy developed and signed off by President Bush.

Anyhow, good riddance to bin Laden. My apologies to the virgins.

  2. You apparently didn't get the memo. "Virgins" was apparently an earlier translation error. I think OBL was in for another disappointment.

  3. Even if it was a correct translation, what could be more frustrating than eternity with 72 permanent virgins...
