There seems still some confusion over whether the attack on Nairobi's Westgate Mall has been successfully smothered. Lots of accounts of "Yes, it's over, but we still hear gunfire."
Be that as it may, I listened to Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta's dignified and very presidential address on the Westgate Mall. Our own Kenyan in the White House could learn a thing or two on how to give those sort of difficult addresses. Kenyatta was determined, modest, informative, consoling, patriotic, and did not declare himself the hero or even the main player in the events of these past few days. He hardly used the word "I," and gave credit where it was due. Great job, Mr. President.
In contrast, I would note that the once-great BBC is unable to call a murderer, a murderer. The BBC ran a piece, September 24, which shows, again, how dhimmitude has taken over the Western media. Please note, for example, the following from that article,

Is there some doubt that gunmen who burst into a "gun free" shopping mall, proceed to murder some 70 unarmed persons in the name of Islam, and are backed by a known terrorist group by the name of Al Shabab, are terrorists? Apparently there is for the editors at the BBC which insists on calling the members of Al Shabab fighters. Nowhere in that article does it mention that non-Muslims were the target of those "fighters."
I guess we will just have to use our own set of quotation marks when referring to BBC "journalists."
"Journalists"? How about "Presstitutes"? More accurate.

ReplyDeleteCompletely off topic but Team America has just levelled the series of races for the America's Cup off San Francisco. Don't want to rub it in but look at the nationalities of the Skipper and principal crew on the US catamaran. Final race tomorrow on the 30th Anniversary of Oz taking the cup from the New York Yacht Club - and that boat was skippered by an Aussie. Perhaps we'll do it again, just a different flag at the masthead.
ReplyDeleteThe BBC is a Public Service Broadcaster that relies on on what is called the 'TV Licence' for its funding. It has no adverts and no sponsorship. The TV Licence has to be paid too the BBC whether you watch their programs or not. Refusal could result in a fine and imprisonment. I kind you not ! That is why it is called the TV Tax or, as the Muslims would call it, Jizra.

When their is any crime committed by Muslims, or The Religion of Peace, as they call it, the ethnicity of the perpetrator(s) in never reported. They are 'Asian' or what is now increasingly known as, 'Persons of No Description'. ie They never tell you the ethnicity.
This is why the BBC is fast becoming a bad joke, with more and more people not paying the TV Tax.
Well, some bunch of 'militants' started a revolution by throwing tea in Boston Harbour I believe, so one hopes that this might be a start of another.

When you Aussies took the Cup, the handwriting was already on the wall - Newport (pop 25000) wasn't big enough to continuing to host the Cup competition. There was only a narrow window of time where there was even a pretense of amateurism but something has been lost with the current F1-like flying circus.
ReplyDeleteNewport still hosts many competitions for smaller boats. Some of the most competitive are one design dinghies, which of course are crewed by one nationality each, amateurs at that.
I apologize to the host for straying so far from his general area of commentary, I'll note that in 1990, a US luxury tax on boats was imposed. The poor plutocrats suffered through the ignominy of postponing the purchase of a larger new boat or diverting the work and registration overseas, while the boat builder craftsmen locally here and nationwide went without jobs. The so-called liberals had the righteous satisfaction of punishing the rich. Last year, our current Secretary of State was caught mooring his yacht in Newport to avoid the taxes in his home state of Massachusetts. Some things never change.
I miss the days when Ted Turner could get eight or nine friends together, they'd all toss in a million bucks and build a boat and go race it.

DeleteStill off topic moderator. MB and Paul I sat up night after night watching the Cup back in 83 [yes I'm a yacht racing tragic]. Serious racing has become so expensive I gave it away twelve years ago and bought a cruising yacht as I am no millionaire and can do most maintenance myself. I shudder at the amounts that the people at the club I belong to spend on their racing vessels. Some of their annual sailing budgets are more than my annual salary was before I retired. Even the high tech dinghies cost a mint to race if you are serious.
