Obama "fixes" Obamacare

I was at the gym when HE came on the tube to announce to us peasants how HE identified with our problems, and, of course, HE never meant "intentionally" to mislead us on the effects of Obamacare. Then HE launched into some rambling, responsibility evading jumble to announce that HE will direct the insurance companies to extend people's insurance policies for another year so that we don't lose them right now--translation: So that we don't lose them prior to the mid-term elections.

Well, well, well. Wasn't the Obamista talking point during the recent GOP struggle against Obamacare that the "Affordable Care Act is SETTLED law"?

I guess law is only SETTLED until the Emperor decides it's not.

The Emperor has declared the Constitution a nuisance and "temporarily" suspended it--all for our own good, of course.

I was thinking more of Juan Peron, myself.

I think we're living under the reincarnation of Kwame Nkrumah; possibly Bung Karno, since Dip once served in Indonesia. Although, Phineas, the reincarnation of Juan Peron suggested itself to me. Or, perhaps, Evita?

  3. So, everyone at the insurance companies PADDLES IN REVERSE!
5 million policies need to be rewritten in 30 days so people can be covered by 1/1/14?
Has the Obama administration lost their minds???

    1. "Has the Obama administration lost their minds???"

Did they ever have minds to begin with? And I doubt that the insurance companies are going to do this; they will, I think, point out that they were ready for the rollout of the new law and the fact that the Feds weren't is not their problem. I also doubt that the insurance companies are going to ignore SETTLED LAW just because the former junior senator from Illinois says they can; again, his need for political cover is not their problem.

    3. G'day Whitewall -

I have just had to clean my 'puter screen. I was having a frothy when I read your post about "a fanny smootching media" and almost choked. Mate down this part of the world the phrase would refer to a different part of the female anatomy.

There we go again - separated by a common language.

Question without notice, "How do you put a pic alongside your i.d. like Akaky instead of that little logo?

    4. David, good morning! Sorry about your screen. Sometimes a bit of humor shows up here and can be quite good eg: a6z just the other day did one about the "tooth fairy". I go back to it sometimes and it just sends me into stitches laughing. If "fanny" means something different in your world, then it would pay wisely for an American to buy a glossary of local slang before arriving. In my part of the US, we have a term "shag" which is a style of R&B dance music done at the beach. The Brits have another meaning for that word that seems more intimate and widely practised. Can't help with the picture, sorry.

    6. G'day TOM,

My introduction to the "differences" between US English and Oz English was at a course my Service sent me to at Northwestern Uni in Illinois in 1987..

One of the best experiences as I was the only "furriner" on the course and it was, in between the serious learning stuff, eight weeks of fun. As the course went along we compiled an American-Australian Dictionary. As one of the differences in meanings arose we'd add it to the list.

I made some really good friends with whom I am still in contact and have had the good fortune to be able to visit since I retired from HM's service.

  6. A nice setup. Obama ORDERs the Insurance Companies to reissue the old policies.
The Insurance Companies tell him to pound sand because:
    A. The States individual Insurance Commissioners refuse to allow those policies since they violate the ACA as passed.
    B. It would be cost prohibitive since next years policies and rates are already set and they have less than a month to redo the entire actuary tables.
    C. They can do it but it would drastically increase the price of all policies.

Obama then gets to point his finger at the Evil Insurance Companies, proclaim it all to be their fault, and the MSM will dutifully provide him all the cover he needs to walk away from yet another scandal of incompetence.

  7. Everything is working like clockwork. The country is divided, the people dissatisfied, the economy working on empty promises, massive unemployment with entitlements scattered around like Easter Eggs in the grass on a wet spring morning.

All America really needs now is a natural disaster or man-made catastrophe, and our leader (and future King) can declare himself POTUS until the present crisis is over -- in about 20 years.

  10. Am I the only one who remembers Phil Gramm's prescient observation about HillaryCare back in 1993, that if it passed "people would be hunting Democrats with dogs by the end of the century"?

Also, as much of a problem as it is to be losing one's healthcare insurance effective January 1, 2014 and not be able to purchase replacement insurance because the exchanges aren't up and running, I think there is a much larger firestorm coming out in 2014 once ObamaCare is broadly in force that isn't being discussed yet . . . . . . . .

Poking around the details of the Platinum, and Gold, and Silver, and Bronze plans - info which is available at several on-line websites (including my insurance company's server) separate from the healthcare.gov exchange - it appears to me that many of the plans are going to seriously limit the ability of participants to choose their own doctor. So, unless they can afford an extremely expensive higher quality plan, participants will end up with HMO-type insurance that restricts their medical choices to in-network providers.

It seems obvious to me that the second great lie of ObamaCare - "If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" is going to cause as much or more of a scandal than the first great lie about keeping your insurance coverage.

    2. There is a lot of truth in the 'hunting' remark. Once government has its hands on health care, in the public mind it 'owns' it. Any diminishment of care is the government's fault regardless. This means that health care (such an intimate thing) comes to dominate the political discourse and every election. The public blames government for wait times, poor hospital experiences etc. I predict this will be true even without single payer.

Is there a season on democrats or can you hunt them all year round?

    5. G'day Ozzie,

Fun for the whole family year 'round. Subject, I regret to report, to legal regulations in some states--some federal regulation, too.

However, I have nothing against democrats. I seek only to hunt Democrats. And in honesty it's pretty nearly only officials, journalists, pop-artists, and academics that should be tarred, feathered, and ridden out of town on a rail.

Well, since we're so close I'll admit there are one or two in each category that cry out for something lingering with boiling oil in it, or maybe molten lead.

Do you suppose the Secret Service will arrest me for terrorist threats? Under previous presidents I wouldn't have given the possibility a thought. I used to live in a free country.

"subject to legal regulations in some States"

Is there a bag limit on them sort of like on some species of fish?

    7. Good morning gents. If the Secret Service does take issue, I believe the way to deal with it is not to quit writing but instead to do more writing. That goes for all of us eventually.

I just returned from 5 days fishing on the Outer Banks where there is a bag limit on what I caught. Punishable by heavy fine if caught. Luckily, the fish I caught were Democrat fish....each one lied it's arse off that it was not one of those regulated species. Worked for me.

    8. G'Day.

Ozzie, in jurisdictions ruled by Democrats, you may legally massacre only Democrats who are "white Hispanic" or "go Mamet" or otherwise violate The Narrative.

Whitewall, congratulations on your successful fishing. I have so little ichthyology that I didn't even know that fish have arses.

I confess a mild surprise that nobody has yet nominated their favorites for "something lingering with boiling oil in it, or maybe molten lead."

    9. G'day Alpha,

At the price of oil no way and lead is also too valuable - with what would Whitewall make his sinkers for his fishing lines if it were used for boiling Democrats?

Can always lend you a couple of Saltwater Crocs or a Great White Shark [not Greg Norman the fishy one].

Remember the Monty Python anthem and "Always look on the bright side of life". Worked for us. Should I be concerned about the black Chevy Suburban parked down the street?

  11. OK, so Soetero has demonstrated, once again, why the government should not be running health care. Nobody knows everything, and telling other people what is good for them is annoying, and, if you do it at gunpoint, dangerous.

However, Soetero did have the power to "change the law," because it was not law, in this case, that was the problem. The regulations made after the law was passed were the ones that mandated maternity coverage for this sixty three year old man, etc. They could have been pulled. However, business, especially not the insurance business, can not turn on a dime. So, yes, he could have stopped that, six months ago, but sowing the seeds of chaos is the point of the ACA, so, waiting until now works out much better for the Sun King.

    1. Agreed. In fact, every one of the regulations in that 7-feet-tall stack came about because of the little catch-all that appears over and over in the original law, "... or as the Secretary shall determine." That, more than anything else, cause the hair to rise on the back of my neck when I saw it way back when. It gave one person, the Sec HHS, way too much power of life/death over us, and through her, the president.

  12. Just wait till everybody on employer provided insurance loses theirs! AND the best part, they have to buy insurance on the exchanges with POST TAX dollars! THAT is going to cause an unbelievable uproar. Everyone keep stalking about how the new policies are so much more pricey, with higher deductibles, etc. Think about the fact that the new policies will be 20-50% more than that because of the taxation. Obamalamadingdong and his henchmen keep saying the exchange policies will be 16% cheaper. I don't think that's going to begin to make up the difference in the tax incurred, even if it were true.
