Hope to have something up soon . . .

Sorry.

My life keeps getting in the way of my Diplomad obligations.

Big crisis. Had to take the Vette in for service to the dealer. The idiots at a "major electronics chain" incorrectly installed the radio/navigation system and had produced a short that was draining my battery.  Any Vette owners out there know that anything that affects the Vette is a major life event. Stopped eating. Ignored the wife and dogs. Blogging fell off . . .

Am working on something for this humble blog. Hope to have it up soon now that the Vette is back on the road.

Did I mention that my Vette had to go in for service? You see, it . . .

  1. Hah, I can see you ignoring everything except your wife. So, no, I don't buy that you "ignored" your wife. Unless, of course, you wish to lose a portion of your anatomy while you're sleeping.

  2. Sympathy. Good luck.

By the time you get back Joey B. should have that Ukraine mess all worked out.

  3. I'm waiting with immense anticipation to any insight you can give us about Sergei Lavrov, and what approach you think he will take with Kerry and his gang of misfit toys.

  4. My Mother used to make Sunday dinner just a little late sometimes....seems when we finally got what we were waiting for, we were grateful and didn't complain. She did not how ever own a Vette.. We'll keep.

  5. Are you sure it is a "short?

I ask because I once did exactly the same thing in my "youth". (though back then it was a cassette player (remember them?) / radio combo.

I connected both the "power" supply cable AND the "memory backup" cable to the "hot" supply to the ignition.

The trick is to connect that "constant" supply to the "memory" cable and the "accessories" (radio/CD etc.supply that is controlled by the ignition switch), to the main power input of the new device.

That way, when you park, and remove your key, the memories in the sundry devices are maintained for WEEKS and the power-hungry amplifiers and display drivers are not steadily sucking the life out of your battery.

    1. I think you're right. I being a peasant called it a short. It, in fact, was that they had hooked up as you described and it was draining my battery. I am trying to get some money back from the idiots.

  6. Are you sure that the idiots in the major chain hadn't hired some recently laid off Lucas Electrics employees to do the work? You remember; "Lucas Electrics, Prince of Darkness"...

    1. Q: Why do the Brits drink warm beer?

A: Because Lucas builds refrigerators too...

    2. Ah, Lucas! I remember the Prince well from my days with a Triumph Spitfire and an MG. Fun cars but never ending electro-drama.

  7. As a fellow owner I sympathize greatly. What year is your Vette?

    1. I have had this baby since 2006, new. It has spent much of its life in storage but now is getting a work-out. I am trying to save my pennies for the Stingray

  8. There is a Vette slowly sinking into the dust of the bone yard by the bunkhouse... Something more interesting came along for the owner...

  10. Heh heh heh. Major chain no doubt hired electronics techs trained by our schools...
Back in the day they hired motorheads and or ham radio enthused kids. No such thing anymore - but they can go on for literally YEARS on videogames and pokemon.

And we wonder why things don't work anymore.....
