More Days of Progressive Insanity

Very eventful past few days, but hard to write about since many of the themes we see coming to the fore already have been explored over and over and at length on this humble blog, but here goes . . .

The good news. Yes, in response to the thousands of readers who have been asking the restoration work on my 73 Mach 1 is coming along smartly: new 17 inch rims and tires all around; four wheel disc brakes; new carburetor; new Hurst shifter; transmission due to arrive early next week from Texas; new battery; new wiring; MSD electronic distributor; all new suspension rear and front, etc. Looking good. The guys at Motech Performance in Murrieta are doing a great job. I also had them install an axle-back Roush exhaust system on my 2015 GT Mustang. Now it sounds as an American V-8 should sound! A great basso profundo rumble that makes the hair on your neck stand up, and scares awake sleeping dogs and children. I am contemplating a Roush Supercharger, but will have to evaluate carefully the budget and the Diplowife's mood re further "investment" in cars . . .

All that good news is somewhat counterbalanced by the fact that the country and the world are going to hell very fast. As I have said so many times that I am afraid of sounding gaga, things are not going well for the cause of Western civilization.

These last few days have been particularly bad. Let's start at home. A deranged piece of crap goes on a killing spree on a small Oregon campus and the Progressives can't wait for the facts before they start beating their anti-gun drums. We have the Emperor of the Progs, AKA "President" Obama, immediately launch a canned speech on the need for more gun control. No specifics. No laying out of what he means or wants. No explanation of how any new legislation would have prevented this shooting.

Obama and his Progressive pajama-boy friends should just come out and say what they really want: to scrap the second amendment, put gun makers and importers out of business, and seize all guns from private hands. Just say it. Let's debate that. Let's debate having the government as the sole possessor of weapons. Let's debate putting an end to one of the major checks on government power laid out in the Constitution. The media, of course, have a narrative that they push re gun violence and just won't give up despite the facts. In Oregon, we had a mixed-race immigrant who deeply admired the IRA and ISIS, and hated Christians enough to single them out for murder. The press version? The L.A. Times summed up the Prog approach best: ignore the killer's actual background and claim that he had "white supremacist" leanings--he, in fact, was as black as Obama . . . but, why bother with the facts? My daughter called me the day after the shooting to report that people at her school were saying the shooter was a Republican. With an exasperated tone, she said, "They don't understand that the Republican Party and the Irish Republican Army are not the same thing!" The low information, smart phone, Hollywood-infused morons strike again.

We see that the gun "debate," more a one-sided harangue, ignores a couple of brutal facts: nearly 50% of all murders in the USA are committed by a tiny percentage of the population, i.e., young black men. A very good chunk of the remaining violence and murders are committed by another small group of people, young Latin males. Violence and murder are overwhelmingly phenomena among and by Democratic constituents. Let me be very blunt: Be you black, white, brown, or "mixed," you are much safer in a Republican run area, e.g., "gun infested" Utah, than in a Democratic-run area, e.g., "gun free" Chicago. To have real "gun control" we need to start with the greatest offenders, Democrats. No gun sales to persons registered as Democrats or who vote for Democratic candidates. Democratic supporters should be required to give up their second amendment rights. Problem solved.

The presidential campaign, well, on the Democratic side we have one candidate, Hillary Clinton, who should be in prison, and another, Bernie Sanders, who apparently has never read a book on economics and recites old 1930s CPUSA talking points as though they are new and exciting--and gets thousands of idiots to cheer him! The GOP presidential candidates? Don't know yet. We'll see.

Abroad, as so repetitively discussed and predicted by this little blog, the West is in total collapse. Insane fiscal policies have devastated the economies of the West. Huge debts are being run up. The size and reach of government grows. All the major currencies and stock exchanges are in serious trouble. High unemployment remains persistent. The euro nonsense continues. Western leaders prattle on about climate change. To top it off, the West is now subjected to a massive influx of openly hostile Muslim "refugees" who are taking advantage of the chaos in the Muslim world to bring a slice of that chaos to the West. The chaos, of course, has been made immeasurably worse by the deranged policies followed by the Obama administration. As I have detailed at length before, Obama's criminally insane policies in Libya, Syria, Egypt, Iraq, and Iran have opened up a world of hurt. These policies have given openings to our old rivals, Russia and China, to replace Western influence in the Middle East--and elsewhere around the world, including in Latin America. We have a Secretary of State salivating over the possibility of getting the Nobel Peace Prize for helping the crazed Ayatollahs get a nuclear weapon. That sort of sums up where we are.

I am going to sit in my Mustang and listen to the sound of a V-8.

  1. Our V8 died this summer: a beautiful aluminium 4 litre Rover engine carried, alas, by a fast corroding body. Our new vehicle has a turbo-charged diesel - it's our hope that the VW scandal will have the indirect effect of lowering the price of diesel fuel in Europe. It's an ill wind, eh?

  3. "Obama's criminally insane policies in Libya, Syria, Egypt ...": just as I'm stumped by why W careered off to invade Iraq, I'm stumped as to the reasons for O's loopy policies on those benighted spots. Is lunacy infectious: is there something in the air in the White House?

Still, I suppose President Hitlery will be capable of making W and O look like sagacious statesmen.

    1. O has aligned with factions in the Middle East and supported Arab Spring uprising as it aligns with his agenda: pro-Palestine, pro-socialism, pro-revolution...weaken traditional US policy to bring the collapse that he seeks. In chaos the resulting chaos he can grab for more power. Cloward-Piven strategy all the way.

W was probably more focused on trying to support the Saudi's, deal with the Saddam threat once and for all, and encourage democracy in the Middle East.

Just my laymen's point of view without any of Dips deep experience.

    2. "deal with the Saddam threat once and for all": what Saddam threat? There was no conceivable Saddam threat to the USA.

    3. The regional threat of Saddam threatened US oil interests and allies. I'm not justifying the choice of W's invasion, only explaining my view of his reasoning.

    5. Anon, dearieme.

Actually the Saudis weren't at all what we here in the southern USA would call "especially delighted" at the prospect of a Shi'a majority *country's* Sunni Head Honcho & Cohort being taken out. And say what you will dearieme about W's decision to take Honcho out but that actually was certified US policy dating back to the Gomer Clinton Administration - remember all that "No-Fly-Zone" doofusness after HW judging the time wasn't particularly ripe for making Iraq safe for Democracy quite yet?

There is some, and pretty doggone firm evidence he wasn't quite up to anymore of that as you say, "freelance adventuring" but posturing and prancing about giving, to all appearances, retainership of his chem and bio stockpiles he managed to not just fool the Iranians but he quite successfully fooled his own Generals to boot.

And who might you dearieme say, if you was kind of a spy-type, guess who in Iraq would be "the go to guys" to buy the best HUMINT?

If you guessed military types and Adnan Chalabi you'da won the jackpot!

And - the rest as they say is History.

  6. Uh-oh. Mercer might've been one of Uncle Kepha's sons, if he weren't already a Mercer. Take that, President O!

Irony of ironies, I understand the community college in question was a supposedly "gun free zone".

      More irony, Kepha -

The college admin recently and with the usual tiresome overblown piety voted to disarm its one security guard, no doubt for 'the safety of the children'.

They should be sued into oblivion and left as an example to other anti-gun idiots.

  10. If I were the kid he'd given that backpack and USB stick to, I think I would've burned them unopened.

If Obama wants to save lives, he should fix regulatory barrier to autonomous vehicles. All the gun control in the world isn't going to save the number of lives annually that would be saved in a single day by getting idiots out of the driver's seat. (This is my tie-in to the Mach 1 post!)
I'm sure I can come up with fifty other proposals that will have much farther reaching consequence than whatever hoped-for-but-wrong claim of gun control.

I always thought those Mach 1's were really beautiful cars... though I imagine they drive like a Ford, and not the GT.. :)

More irony: in addition to being a gun-free campus, the school administrators with the usual tediously predictable sanctimony voted to disarm their lone security guard, no doubt to ensure 'the safety of the children.'

Yet more irony: there are reports that this piece of sub-human garbage was on a Russian terror watch list, and the Russians did apprise American officials of this. But their warnings were reportedly ignored. Now why would our good security officials do that?

More irony: reportedly this piece of crud early in September entered Syria by way of Turkey and tried to join ISIS....again, these are reports on the Net, time will tell.

But the press will never mention any of it.

The shooter's social media page listed one - count 'em - one 'friend', ali baba bafangool or whatever, who is a known jihadist. The shooter's case officer?

Better yet, though he was away as an invited guest on one of the TV contest shows, Alex Skarlatos reportedly attends Roseburg CC. Recall he was among several heroes who thwarted the jihadist attacker on the French train?

Now this wouldn't be retaliation for that would it? Would the jihadis be so petty and vindictive as to retaliate for a terror attack stifled? No way. Forget I even said it.

    Thank you.

  16. "There was no conceivable Saddam threat to the USA."

Saddam's threat was to the oil supplies of the west and it was real. Now, in spite of Obama and the left, we have developed a source of oil and gas that allows us to be more circumspect.

The immediate threat was to the Saudis, that's true, but they were the oil depot. They are now doing what they can to deflate the oil price to hurt the competitors in Russia and the US.

    1. Saddam presented a much bigger set of threats than just that.
He was a wildcard with a very large military and a penchant for distracting global politics from various impending disasters around the world. In the aftermath of gulf war 1, we ignored things like Rwanda. In the lead up to 9/11, the world ignored the takeover and subjugation of AFghanistan by the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Why? Because we were busy enforcing a pointless no-fly zone, playing UNSCOM (remember them?) cat-and-mouse games with Saddam, and generally focussing the entire world's international political attention on one guy and one problem.
Maybe we can blame ourselves for being distracted by it, but he was there to be the sidekick who redirected us while the Osama huckster dealt from the bottom of the deck.
We couldn't ignore Saddam... *Saddam* made sure of that, not us.

  19. #BlackLivesMatter is effectively a white supremacist organization. They have been inciting racial violence. Yes, they've only been trying to do that in one direction, but it doesn't work that neatly in the real world. If a racial conflict was started, it seems it would be at least as likely to go poorly for a minority as go well. (Civil wars are by and large not beneficial situations.)

Since the shooter supported #BlackLivesMatter, calling him a white supremacist doesn't seem that inappropriate.

  20. Coincidentally, I was passed on the freeway today (this is in Australia) by a Dodge Challenger of around 1972 vintage. Not at all a common vehicle over here. I swear to God I almost went to Condition Brown at the noise that thing made. I would guess it had the 426 or perhaps the 440 installed.

On a more serious note, Curtis Cheng, a 58 year old accountant and father of of two was shot in the back of the head at close range by a cowardly Islamist scumbag on the streets of Sydney a couple of days ago. His killer just wanted to kill an infidel. Happily he was smoke-checked moments later by a cop as he danced in the street. There is video on the net.

Yes, you read that right. This son of a dog and a pig walked up to a complete stranger, shot him in the back of the head by surprise and then actually danced in celebration of his courageous action.

Now, our cowardly government demands that we not blame Muslims....for the acts of Muslims. My idea is that we just try blaming Muslims for once, and see how that works out for us.

The Western World is lead by mealy mouthed idiots who are bending over over forward for their Muslim overlords. It's making me rather cross.

    1. Clearly this did not happen in Australia. IIUC Australia confiscated all firearms in 1996 and has extremely strict firearm laws that prevent this sort of activity. That is why The Dear Golfer mentioned Australia's gun laws as a model that the USA should follow. No this must have happened in Plano, TX.

    3. OldMan.., happily, you don't recall correctly. It's a common misconception. The "conservative" government of John Howard banned most semiauto longarms, but other guns are available to those who want to have them. The firearms laws here are indeed strict, but not impossible.

I own 5 handguns and have a large collection of longarms consisting of bolt and lever guns. In the face of a zombie or Muslim apocalypse (much the same thing, really) I would not consider myself or my family to be poorly armed.
