Snapshot of Our Present Condition

A beautiful sunny day here in southern California. Took the dogs for a long walk just before 6 am and they are now happily chomping on kibble and chicken strips. The Diplowife is at the gym. I am waiting for the electrician to come check a faulty outlet that is playing havoc with the pool filter, so this is the perfect moment to write about how horrible most things are. Not all things, just most.

President Trump is back in the USA from his first foray abroad as President. I think he did a tremendous job. He was flexible and accommodating where needed, and tough and blunt also where needed. I didn't see any missteps of any significance. He has firmly established himself as the major player on the world scene. He does not intend, clearly, to lead from behind. The vacuum that has existed for the past eight dreadful years has been filled, and unlike many of these sorts of trips, I think this one will have lasting and positive consequences. More on that in a later post.

The jihadis, of course, continue their onslaught. We have seen them target, attack and murder children in Manchester, England, and target buses of Coptic Christians on their way to prayer in Egypt. This aside, naturally, from the routine jihadi mayhem that now hardly gets reported in places such as Yemen, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, etc. The media finds the mass murder of brown people in remote places easy to ignore, and, besides, it doesn't fit the narrative they want us to swallow about Islam, its peaceful nature, and how Muslims suffer from Western Islamophobia. We all know, of course, that the two greatest crises facing Western civilization are our antipathy towards hijabs and our unfounded belief that Islamism is a violent death cult. The biggest threat facing people in Manchester, for example, is that long-predicted anti-Muslim backlash that's coming any day now. It's imminent, absolutely, just like the anti-Muslim backlashes that took place in New York, Orlando, San Bernardino, London, Paris, Madrid, Brussels, and so many other places with no valid reason for fearing or resenting Islamism and its totalitarian preachings.

Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydło is one of the few making sense. She gave a marvelous and blunt speech in parliament in the wake of the Manchester massacre,
We are not going to take part in the madness of the Brussels elite . . . We want to help people, not the political elites.
Where are you headed Europe? Rise from your knees and from your lethargy or you will be crying over your children every day.
If you can’t see this – if you can’t see that terrorism currently has the potential to hurt every country in Europe, and you think that Poland should not defend itself, you are going hand in hand with those who point this weapon against Europe, against all of us.
It needs to be said clearly and directly: This is an attack on Europe, on our culture, on our traditions.
Do we want politicians who claim we have to get used to the attacks, and who describe terrorist attacks as incidents, or do we want strong politicians who can see the danger and can fight against it efficiently?
Here in the USA, thank God, all of our major problems have been solved so we can spend hours, days, weeks, months fretting over "collusion" between the Trump campaign and administration with Russia. What form this "collusion" took place and what evidence there is to support such a charge, well, those are unknowns, or to put it more plainly and in the pseudo-legal jargon that has taken over our daily speech, there is no evidence. None. Zero. Zip. Nada. Rien.

But yet, but yet, the Washington Post and other major media outlets are full of stories of how the "scandal" grows! It is now apparently illegal to talk to Russia. It was fine for Obama to talk to and give away the store to the Iranians, and to do the wave at a ball game with mass murderer Raul Castro, but Heaven help us if Trump wants to talk to the Russians about terrorism! It's not like he's selling them 20% of our uranium supply in exchange for some $500,000 speaking fees and a contribution to the Clinton Trump Foundation. That would never happen.

The Social Justice Warriors continue their war on common sense. There are just too many examples. One, of course, is their insistence on bizarre WOMAN STRONG comic book characters--they, of course, ignore real strong women such as the Polish PM. I laugh at the present controversy over the all-woman showing of what seems to be an idiotic film, "Wonder Woman." You have here a movie made by rich elite people all around the world in places where they get tax breaks for making movies. I am going to go out on a limb and make a bold prediction, that this movie will bomb just like the all woman version of "Ghost Busters," and when it bombs we will hear endless speeches about mysoginy and Trump . . . bold prediction, that.

Well, that's enough for now. I hear my dogs barking so either the electrician has shown up or the social justice police are here to cart me away.

    1. When I was a lowly consular scut in Guangzhou, China, back in the early 1990's, I carried a briefcase for a higher-up on an out-of-town trip to meet some of the local Chinese officialdom. On the way, we saw how road work was done by local farm women (the men were working for new Hong Kong-owned factories, and unavailable for corvee), including obviously pre-adolescent girls. This was dutifully reported to our masters in DC.

As for reports of Chinese use of prison labor for goods for export, Main State informed us we had to be able to make such charges stick in a court of law--as if the CHinese authorities were going to allow us to inspect labor conditions in its Lao Gai facilities.

However, right after, President Bill Brightnose Clinton asked Congress to give China permanent MFN treatment. Go figure.

I have long suspected that the Clintons were in China's hip pocket back then.

  2. I don't think WW is going to bomb. It's unlikely to do as well as the Marvel movies but from the WW scenes in Batman vs Superman and the trailers it's a typical superhero movie so it'll get my ticket dollars.

And, the usual suspects seem to be complaining not that men are misogynists for refusing to see it, but that they are misogynists for going to see it (and griping about shaved armpits).

As far as Ghostbusters is concerned, the whiners probably cost that one about $40MM. I rented it later and found that it was watch-able and I probably would have gone to the theater for it if it hadn't become "necessary to prove you are not a misogynist".

    1. "It should be remembered that [t]he notion of a republic of free people equal before the law is an aberration in the history of humanity. It is a concept that we struggled to live up to and only embraced as a society in the last 40 years. We are in danger of loosing it, to a new variation on history's most perennial concept of governance... aristocracy." AKA the elites.

Methinks, as long as we the people keep our right to bear Arms & Ammo, equivalent to the Kings Force, we just might be able to keep "a republic of free people equal before the law". That is, if we are able to continue to grow and educate a large enough share of the educable citizenry, in perpetuity. Cake! MAGA!

  4. I don't need to see the WW trailer to surmise that she is no longer so svelt, her star-spangled bathing suit has been replaced by a white pants suit, she lassoes only deplorables with her magic rope, and she repels bullets not with her bracelets but with her withering scowl. She might even kill an elephant with her bare hands for symbolic effect.

    2. The same Lynda Carter who now, occasionally, shows up as the president of the United States on the Supergirl TV series.

Carter first appeared before the election, but I'm certain the producers were sure (along with almost everyone else) that Her Shadyship would win in November.

What was also established on the Supergirl series, just a couple of weeks ago, was that the president is secretly an alien of the off-world variety and, though it was never stated, ineligible to be president.

Upon learning of the deception, the first reaction of the series' erstwhile media publisher, also female (and after taking a phone call from Madeleine Albright), exclaimed, "Just tell me you're still a Democrat!" I almost did a spit-take with the wine I was drinking at the time.

This all was way too much fun on too many levels.

So yeah, I'm a bit of a comics nerd, and I'll go to see the Wonder Woman movie. I doubt it will be anywhere near as horrific as some seem to be expecting. (But then, I liked the widely panned "Suicide Squad." Viola Davis as Amanda Waller rocked. She'd shoot anyone in the intelligence community rather than entertain the possibility that they might leak something. In fact, she did just that.)

  6. HA! This toodoo, about 'Women Only' being allowed in to see WW screenings, reminded me of Jr. High School, when a certain 'Girls Only' film was shown in the Gym. What sticks in my memory, is the dubious tales of Boys climbing the walls to peak in the 2nd story windows. Suspect the WW Producers, are trying to suck-in metro-sexual males! Wonder how many of those "Men" ran out and bought 'Pussy Hats' too?

    1. When I was in college, my girlfriend told me that a bunch of her sorority sisters wanted to see what we then called "A stag movie." I dutifully arranged to rent one, set up a projector for them and then absented myself.

I guess that was another "women only " movie experience.

I humbly beg to differ. There was and is clear evidence of collusion. One minor problem for the Democrats though - the attempts at collusion took place soon after, "After the election I'll have more flexibility" which, soon came to pass:

  8. The sad thing is that even if the 'worst' of the generally discussed accusations are true, there's *still* nothing there that's really impeachable. There's some claim that this or that relatively obscure act was abrogated, by someone other than Trump, *MAYBE*. Of course, these infringements are common when given the latitude to characterize an action as the accuser sees fit, but they disappear in the light of day.
The media, democrats, and the GOP are going to have to work much harder and do *much* better than "his son-in-law was discussing possibly meeting Russian officials about Obama trying to bring us to war as a result of Hillary's loss..."

They're throwing poop at a wall in the hope that enough of it will make the country smell bad enough that the people will pay them off to stop... throwing their own feces. Sadly, 'they' in this case includes the progressives, the democrats, the media, and half of the GOP.

The progressives are trying to prop up this stupid 'documentary' called 'hypernormalisation'... which is an inaccurate portrayal of Trump's business dealings going way back to whenever, set to a soundtrack of doom that makes the darth vader march sound uplifting. It all culminates with how Trump is the harbinger of the all the forces of evil arrayed around the world... It's such utter crap that I really hope they keep touting it, because only an idiot would be influenced by such tripe.

  10. http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/335478-assange-kushner-correct-to-create-channels-with-everyone
Yes, it seems to be illegal to talk to Russia, that´s all politicos and journalists seem to fret about in Washington. But Mr Assange, whom I trust much more than any of these people, says that it is well and good to create channels and have a discussion with Russia. And of course it is. How many can still endure these endless pseudo-discussions about Russia on the CNN ?
I hear Frau Merkel whine and complain that "Europe cannot trust in the US anymore" and I then understand that Trump did something good during his tour here. Merkel certainly isn´t the spokeswoman of Europe, she is a creature of the EU, an organisation many of us want to see dissolved or at least reformed. Since Merkel opened the borders and claimed that "Wir schaffen das " I cannot stand her anymore. I ask myself, why, oh why, does she and her colleagues want this to happen ? Why the destruction of Europe ? I simply cannot understand it.
By the way, the polish PMs speech is absolutely wonderful. That´s the kind of speech we would love to hear our politicians give. Some day maybe....if it isn´t too late.

The fact that Manning, Assange and Snowden are still alive is indicative of the complete lack of importance with which our clandestine services seem to approach their jobs today.

    2. Where are the Germans and other Europeans fighting for freedom of speech? The German press has been horribly muzzled by PC and weird "hate speech" laws, but in the comments on some of the websites you can still see massive public unhappiness with Merkel's policies, especially on immigration. Of course freedom of speech is terribly threatened in the US also.

  14. Our Constitution is not a suicide pact. We do have the rule of law, still. However, we need federal camps for criminal illegals until deported and those who espouse terrorism. The latter to be only done if we actually have a constitutional Declaration of War by Congress on radical Islamic terrorism; then it is no freedom of speech to side with a constitutionally declared enemy. Aiding and abetting would then be treason since we had a declared enemy as per the Constitution.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio in AZ, now voted out of office and his replacement being a progressive, had his camp for prisoners and it worked; now closed by the new sheriff.
