It's almost midnight at the quasi-baronial Diplomad estate. There is a huge tropical storm raging outside with some spectacular lightning and thunder displays. The surrounding woods are quite spooky and even creepy. If I see a clown running around out there, I am moving.
Clearly, Gaia is upset about something, and whatever it is, her reaction has my two giant dogs quivering and crying like little puppies. Once again, we see that Gaia is a cruel mistress who spends all her time trying to find ways to terrify and kill all those who dare to live in her house. Once again, we see the wisdom of the Diplomad's dictum, to wit, that the history of civilization is the history of man's fight against Gaia; the most successful civilizations are those most successful in that battle.
All this Gaia "sound and fury" outside has got me thinking about the leftist antics we see since the election of Donald Trump. Driving around Durham, near Duke University, I noticed several yard signs that screamed out in bold font, "Resist!" Ah, yes, these bold signs clearly identified bold members of the bold resistance to the man who, of course, is quite literally Hitler, our own Donald Trump.
Before I reach the perhaps unjustified conclusion that the "resistance" is just a "tale told by an idiot," let me ask a few questions, and make some observations about this bold and virtuous resistance.
If Donald Trump is literally Adolf Hitler, why would a member of the "resistance" identify himself/herself/zheself as a member? Strikes me that is a clear violation of the rules of resistance to a repressive regime. Did Max Manus put such a sign in front of his house to shout out his defiance of the Nazis and Vidkun Quisling? Did Anne Frank? Seems an odd thing to do if the Gestapo is out and about.
What does this "resistance" do? I know what the resistance did in Norway and Yugoslavia, but this one? What does it do? I mean, of course, aside from going to notoriously right-wing Starbucks to demand free bathroom usage. What exactly are they resisting? OK, I understand that just like Hitler, Trump is strongly pro-Israel, has a Jewish daughter and son-in-law, and, just like Hitler, used the power of the state to bring back three non-white hostages from North Korea. Yes, I see the similarities, but . . . well, now that I think about it, I guess Trump is actually worse than Hitler because Trump, unlike Hitler, is not a vegetarian!
But, but I still remain puzzled.
It seems odd that many members of the "resistance" want the state to take away all of our guns. The resistance hates Trump so much they want him and his henchmen to have our weapons. I guess the resistance to Hitler did the same thing, no? Maybe I've got my history mixed up, I don't know, perhaps the thunder and lightning are throwing off my aging brain waves.
So to sum it up for the resistance: The anti-semite Trump is the best friend Israel has ever had. The racist Trump has instituted policies that have produced the lowest unemployment figures in decades for black and hispanic Americans. The woman-hating Trump had a woman running his campaign (no, not Mrs. Putin), has a woman as Ambassador at the UN, another as the head of DHS, another as head of Education, yet another as White House spokesman, and now has made a woman the head of the CIA. The oligarch Trump has instituted tax and other policies that are putting more money into more ordinary people's pockets than has happened in many years.
All just like Hitler did . . .
Ah well, tomorrow will be another day in the Reich in which to ponder all this . . .
You know in the last election, among the Candidates, the movers and shakers and money players...their was an actual Nazi in the mix. A soldier of the Reich.
ReplyDeleteAnd he was supporting Hillary.
Oh and the Russians! Remember how the russians colluded as Hitler ascended to power? Trump also took the reins of power with the russians doing collusion. What is collusion? It's where something happens, or doesn't happen, like in this case, where... well, it's bad and it's illegal, but it can never be proved, it can only be handed down as a verdict... by a special prosecutor... as a report.... without any specifics or even allegations of actual wrong doing. But it's bad and they totally did it, everybody knows it!

"Remember how the russians colluded as Hitler ascended to power?"
DeleteThere were occasions when the Nazis and Communists colluded in violent action against their political opponents.
I mean... they divided up poland for a bit.. yes... with the russians... but the nazis had a 'special love' for the KPD.. we might say. But heck.. it COULD have happened, this collusion thing... might have happened... whatever it is... and that is all our media needs to declare something that they like, to be fact. "Prove that my allegations are not true." is the lefty benchmark.

No; I mean in Germany when those two extreme socialist parties each hoped to grab power. I read an account once of their rioting together, taking it in turns to overturn trams, and generally giving the police and members of democratic parties a hard time. Of course, once it was clear that the Nazis had the greater promise of getting power plenty of individual communists just left and joined the Nazi Party.
DeleteA mentality that claims a resistance to a President that half the country elected is nothing more than an expression of contempt toward that half. Like you say, if Trump and his voters were "Hitlerian" these resisters would be turning up dead in droves everyday. Somebody in the blog-o-sphere is using Trump's election as the "Great Reveal" when it comes to the Democrat party and DC itself.
ReplyDeleteSomewhat under half, actually.
DeleteOnly when you include the voter fraud.
DeleteActually, One Brow's somewhat snarky comment is true of President Trump ... and equally true of Obama and probably every President.
DeleteThe problem is that those citizens who choose not to vote are ignored. It would be much more "democratic" to require that any elected official receive at least 50% of the votes of Registered Voters. Ally that with Iraq-style purple finger voting in person on the day, and the whole Democrat Party construct of pervasive voter fraud would be destroyed.
Since not voting would then be equivalent to "None of the Above", if no candidate reached the required 50% of Registered Voters threshold, the seat would be filled by a randomly-selected citizen, rather like jury service.
Of course, our Political Class will never let this happen -- all the while rabbiting on about "democracy".
ck,
DeleteIf you get to exclude imaginary voter fraud, do I get to compensate for very real voter suppression?
There are a lot of vague claims of suppression, but what was actually done to stop people from voting? Specifics, please. How about intimidating people at polls? The only case of intimidating was by New Black Panthers.
DeleteVoter ID laws have stopped people. Longer lines in poor neighborhoods deter people. There has been the occasional republican seen dumping voter registration forms in the trash.
DeleteVoter ID laws SHOULD stop non-citizens and felons from voting, and keep people from voting more than once. That's why every democracy in the developed world has them.
DeleteCJ,
DeleteThey also stop citizens from voting.
(Whole other discussion) Why are you concerned with felons voting? Worried they'll vote crooks into office?
Many of the countries that have voter ID laws also have national ID cards. some of the others actually mail the voter ID card to the resident shortly before the election. It's interesting to see how many different systems there are.
You have to have ID to cash a check, but somehow showing ID to vote stops poor people? What planet are you on?
DeleteA clinging, deplorable I am. Funny, I didn't know I was until obama and clinton told me. Molon labe,to the end.
ReplyDeleteSince you claim to be one of the deplorables, which type(s)? Do you claim to be racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, or Islamaphobic?
DeleteWould "all of the above" be an acceptable answer?
Delete.. the type that preferred Trump to Clinton? I think that was the only real qualifier....
Delete- the ever-deplorable reader #1482
Or the true definition of a deplorable - "normal".
DeleteKurt Schlichter has been using the term "Normals" to describe those of us who don't buy into the bullSchiff.
Delete.. the type that preferred Trump to Clinton? I think that was the only real qualifier....
DeleteOnly about half the voters that preferred Trump were deplorables, according to Clinton's statement, so whose qualifications are you using?
whitewall
Delete"racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, or Islamaphobic?"
Nothing but shield words of a junk ideology.
I'm not the person proud to be them.
My general rule is to cease further discussion once the words Hitler or Nazi are brought into the debate.
ReplyDeletePeople with the "Resist" signs are virtue signaling, they want to enhance their standing with other members of their group, proclaim their "goodness" to all......lol. They are more interested in showing their feelings than showing their brainpower since as you stated keep a low profile if you are truly "resisting".
ReplyDeleteIt is Trump's "authoritarian" and "racist" ways/personality/tendencies that makes his critics constantly invoke Hitler. I have heard many explain this.
ReplyDeleteTrump constantly atacks and belittles news organizations and individual reporters, and he desires to change the defamation laws. Clearly he's against freedom of the press; therefore he is authoritarian, therefore he is like Hitler. Moreover, every time he exercises authority, which he does a lot, like firing Comey, he is being authoritarian. That's indisputable. He's therefore authoritarian often. Trump is therefore like Hitler. That Trump has deferred to Congress and the judiciary arguably too much? Irrelevent. People like Krauthammer know an authoritarian personality when they see one and after all, Krathamer is a pyschiatrist, he should know. His opinion is irreproachable.
Then, of couse, there is Trump's "racism," which makes him like Hitler. He clearly wants to vet Muslims, because he is racist, Muslims being now a "race." He wants to stop immigration, except Norwegians, because immigrants are people of color. And he thinks a lot of illegal immigrants are rapists and criminals. All of that's clearly racism and means he's Hitler. And if you have any doubt, heck, he showed in Charlottesville he loves neo-Nazis. He probably has a white hood in his closet, which is why he won't denounce David Duke every time he speaks. Hitler would not have allowed immigrants of color into Germany and nevermind that many of the Arabs supported Hitler.
If you need any more help understanding, just ask Bill Kristol for guidance. He pushes these arguments and he's a big time intellectual and conservative, so he is a trust-worthy authority and certainly useful for his rational take on all of this.
Msher, You're frightening me . ..
DeleteThe entire post was tongue in cheek but I submit that the last paragraph is a dead give away, that no one, not even his admirers, would choose the adjective "rational" about Kristol now.
DeleteWhat is serious in the post is how the left and NeverTrumpers got to Hitler. I watched that happening. They decided Trump had an "authoritarian" personality and would be an "authoritarian" president. No grounds given. From there some people jumped straight to Hitler. Others added "racism," and then jumped to Hitler.
It's his spittle-flecked sausage-avoidance and carpet-biting that reminds them of Hitler.
DeleteUh huh...
DeleteMsher, I do hope your last para was tongue in cheek!
ReplyDeleteThing is, I figured out why the Left doesn't want private citizens to have arms--in a classic case of projection, they fear rightist tyranny, and, since most gun owners are on the Right, they fear that said guns will be used in that tyranny's service.
ReplyDeleteYes, I know that makes no sense.
The left fears weapons because they are afraid of their inability to control themselves of they have weapons.
DeleteA leftist college-age relative explained to me why people shouldn't have firearms. When she finished, she had me convinced: she should not have firearms.
DeleteWhy you moved to one of 3 primary leftist cesspools in NC is beyond me.
ReplyDeleteCompared to the current State of Kalifornia, even Vermont looks Far Right.
DeleteTaking the fight to the enemy!
DeleteOhm's Law -- Try to keep from conducting logical thought and conversation.
ReplyDeleteIt's very simple. They are "resisting" anyone but Democrats serving in an elected office. That's why they pass laws that the top two vote getters in the primary face off in the general (so you can vote democrat vs democrat). It's why they push vote by mail. Any time a Republican wins the Presidency, it's a temper tantrum until they are out of office.
ReplyDeleteThere are a bunch of gays in The Resistance, protesting against the most gay-friendly president in history, who (for better or worse) was pro-gay-marriage years before Obama or Hillary.
