Back in LaLa Land

I am back for about a week in California working on estate issues and cleaning out my father's house and storage unit. Unbelievable the sort and amount of stuff that one keeps over a 94-year lifespan. Blogging will be light as I am spending a lot of time with lawyers, accountants, brokers, appraisers, junk men, movers, and on the freeways driving back and forth in my wife's little 2006 Jeep Liberty.

I look like like Hell. I have never looked good, but I look particularly bad right now. Quite aside from tired, sweaty, and dusty, I have a YUUUUGE black eye, gift of my dogs. In one of my last days in my beloved North Carolina, I was trying to go out the door of my son's house while shepherding four dogs--two of mine, two of his. Each of the four, of course, wanted to be the first one out the door. Well, you guessed it: running, pushing, backing up, going forward, left, right, underfoot, tangle of leashes and paws and my big clumsy size 12s, and . . . . BLAMMO! . . . down I went to meet the floor, my head hitting the door knob on that way down with a resounding thud. I lay on my back envying Cleopatra after the Asp bite with four dogs licking my face, climbing on my chest, and doing other doggie first responder assistance tactics on a downed human. I slowly got up and within minutes I had a YUUUUUGE hard-boiled egg on my forehead. I don't get it, but over the following three or four days, I guess, that as that swelling went down, blood travelled downward and encircled my left eye. I look like I just came out of a pub in South Boston after saying something nice about the Brits.

Anyhow, I have been only casually following the news and it seems to me that the world is about to end again, this time with a war with Iran. YAWN. Boring movie that.

I see--sorta through my bleary eye--that the story is starting to come out about the FISA abuse. It's only the beginning. A lot of progs are going to be eating crow . . . nah, you have to have a sense of shame for that, and they don't have it.

Hope to be back in action in a couple of days or so.

  1. G'day Dip.

Resuscitation by dog may not appear in too many medical texts but it sure as hell lets you know they care for you.

    1. If my last dog, a 120lb Rottie, had tried that, I'd have a crushed chest.

  4. Sorry to hear about the news: being back in California and the accident. Get well soon, the pups are expecting that. I'm not sure that the remedy about putting a steak over the eye helps. Besides, the dogs'd know.

  5. Oh dear! Sorry about the shiner- but that gives you the opportunity to save a fair bit on your hotel bill.

Looking disheveled, sweaty, dusty, with a huge black eye- why, you'll fit right in On The Street(tm) our new housing arrangement here in the once Golden but now um, Crap Brown State.

Right by the Angel Stadium there's plenty of space for another tent, and you'll meet lots of very friendly people, who'll show you where you can get your free State-provided syringes (sorry, but you'll have to bring your own drugs, or steal them from your neighbors- a common practice in this friendly community.)

If you drink out of straws, though- keep them hidden! Those dangerous things will get you instantly busted, and possibly jailed! (If you're hassled by The Law, just speak Spanish & they'll leave you alone; no, really!)

Seriously- hope you recover soon & don't have a problem with our zealous officialdom. Mexico is better, you can be open with bribes; here it's still dicey!

  6. Never mind the FISA debacle. We now have the salacious tape released by Cohen of Trump being recorded without his consent by his own attorney!
This really is too much. An attorney secretly recorded his own client? Really?
How much more disgusting can this thing get?
I really DO NOT CARE who Trump diddled. I was very strongly schooled during the Bill Clinton presidency not to care... Isn't that true? So, the whole Cohen secret recordings are not only sleazy but they reflect more on Cohen than on Trump. That man is a stone cold bastard. His releasing of attorney/client conversations reflects on him, not Trump.

    1. Oh, and sorry about the dog debacle. Several years ago I was trying to save on energy by only having one light on in the house. I let the dogs in, got tripped up in them and crashed down on a side table... I got a big bruise on my head and both eyes turned black. So much for energy efficiency...

  7. I'm visiting the SF bay area and I was tremendously surprised to hear KPFA/Flashpoints calling shenanigans on the mueller investigation. I couldn't figure out their angle, but it was very 'twilight zone'ish to catch them making sense. Calling out the 'Maddows' and other idiots claiming things like Trump asking for subpoenaed emails to be turned over as some sort of collusion evidence. The usual suspects who attack anything other than communism were lining up to blast it as stupid, which is weird. I've listened to their stupidity for a decade, and none of it *ever* made sense.
Something very weird is happening in the SF bay area.
