Let's--sorta--put politics aside today and talk about something much more interesting. No, not dogs; not Corvettes; not boring reminisces from a mediocre career. No, something interesting and FUN--a word that the progs will soon ban (Oops! Politics).
I mean guns, folks, small arms, weapons, firearms, armas de fuego.
Went to my local gun store here in Wilmington, NC, a few days ago, and--HORRORS!--found it almost cleaned out. Not just the cheap stuff, either. Kimber, gone. Sig, gone. Colt, gone. S&W, gone. Ruger, gone. Glock, gone. CZ and Wesson, gone. ARs and AKs, gone. With just a few shotguns, not many, left like lonely teeth in a gap-toothed smile along the almost bare walls. They also had a few single-action revolvers, mostly used. The friendly folks told me that their concealed carry classes are packed, sold-out. I wanted to order a new 2020 .357 4.25 inch Colt Python, and they laughed. Told me to go online and find an auction. I will get back to that.
Just before the great drought, however, I did manage to pick up a very nice CZ-75 compact (the Czechs make some very GOOD stuff) and a few boxes of 9mm ammo. Now, that's almost impossible. Along with the gun racks being empty, the ammo shelves are nearly there, too. None of the common rounds was available. I did manage to pick up a few boxes of 5.7mm for my Ruger 57, which I have yet to fire. The owner told me that the thugs of Antifa/BLM will make him rich--he had even sold out his "Black Rifles Matter" t-shirts. Ever since America's cities starting melting down under the Antifa/BLM/DNC onslaught, sales have gone through the roof. Lots of newbies, he explained. People who never had thought about the Great Second Amendment, now--SUDDENLY!--realize that the cops probably won't be there. Defunded, you understand. If you have serious trouble, with luck the city will send you a social worker in a couple of weeks . . . help your family with your funeral arrangements.
Yes, America, time to go heavy! I learned that phrase watching The Sopranos.
I went online, and found a couple of auctions listing Colt Pythons. The prices got very crazy, very fast. Going north of $3000 in no time, and not stopping until they hit almost $4000. I was disappointed. Heaven, however, heard my entreaties, and suddenly a North Carolina dealer advertised the exact Python I sought. I zoomed in, got there ahead of the competition, paid an only slightly exorbidant price, and, now, the Python nests in my lair. Haven't tried it yet. It sure does look nice though; very smooth trigger. I will report results as soon as I can get enough ammo to burn on the range.
Anyhow, thanks to the Progs, the value of my gun company stocks continues to climb, and nobody talks about "gun control" anymore except that Phony Harris, and her gaga sidekick Fake Biden. That's a loser for you, keep at it! (Oops! Politics).
Soooooooo glad I reload...
ReplyDeleteI have a 1978 vintage Python in a 6" barrel.
ReplyDeleteButter smooth, and a tack driver.
As Igor said, RELOAD!
I have a Dillon 550b progressive loader. Haven't tried to buy supplies recently, but I know I can load 100 rds of .45ACP for about $15.
I'm not a wheel gun aficionado, however my manager is. My problem, like everyone else, is ammo.
ReplyDeleteAlthough we haven't had any problems where I live, (half the population is armed at a minimum), I don't have enough to go to the range.
He recently acquired a new "Cupcake", (We call guns cupcakes and ammo sprinkles when in the office to avoid triggering liberals), a Keltec RDB
https://www.keltecweapons.com/firearms/rifles/rdb/
He wants to compare it to my IWI X95. He's beginning to like the bullpup design, although he did complain a bit on how quickly his new cupcake heated up.
What we need is ammo. We need more ammo ladies, get me more ammo!
Yes, indeed. I have a fairly large reserve that I laid in when we started with the ChiCom virus panic, but it's not nearly enough to sustain my previous range habits.
DeleteWell at least your story has a happy ending
ReplyDeleteKeep posting Dip.
I live in a Seattle suburb and my local gun store is the exact same. Almost no guns, almost no ammo. The guy at the counter told me they've been seeing floods of first-time buyers for the last few months.
ReplyDeleteAround Portland. No ammo, firearms available, but no bargains. Fortunately habit had me stock up common calibers in advance of Covid-19.
ReplyDeleteI believe B L M now stands for:
ReplyDeleteBURN LOOT MURDER
There was that wonderful Irish expression -- "Voting with your feet". When the oppression from the English became too intolerable, they would vote with their feet and move to America.
ReplyDeleteWhen someone has reached the West Coast of North America and there is no place left to go, maybe arming up is the only option left -- "Voting with your wallet". I wonder how many of the newbies investing in guns, ammunition, and (hopefully!) training are going to think more carefully before casting an old-fashioned ballot? Oops! Politics. Sorry.
I didn't know you were in Wilmington, have you tried Rocky Point General Store? It's on 210 in Rocky Point. They had some pistols last weekend when I stopped by.
ReplyDeleteI hope you keep us posted on how you like your new "cupcakes" (I really like that subterfuge, Angry!) particularly the CZ!
ReplyDeleteLong time ago I went to a gun store in CA, back when it wasn't nearly as crazy there as it is now, to get a Springfield .45 they had advertised. When I got there, I picked up a CZ 75 B, and it seemed like it had been molded from my hand, it fit so well! The .45 was OK, but the CZ just felt "right." So I got it, and no regrets, it shoots like a dream!
Like I said, that was a long time ago; now I'm getting on a bit, and have some nerve damage in my left hand. Horrors! It's hard to rack the slide on my trusty CZ!
So I went a-looking, in Texas where I'm living now (thank God!) and found a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 9 EZ. Oh boy, it is EASY! Easy to rack, easy to load, and it shoots where it's pointed, I hardly have to aim! Only thing I don't like is that it only holds 8+1, but I'm carrying 3 extra mags so I hope that'll make up for it. Also got my LTC (License To Carry,) which means I can carry open or concealed, and I do; particularly now with all the thugs on the loose!
But yeah, even here in gun-crazy Texas, the stores are cleaned out & ammo is hard to find. Prices are through the roof! My sister wants some .38 Special, it's $40/box of 50 online, plus shipping! Even 9mm is getting pricy. Hope this changes soon!
I am a big fan of the S&W M&P family of guns.
DeleteThe best thing is that when Trump crushes Biden (DO NOT assume that...go vote) and gets to turn Barr loose on the Antifa/BLM Marxists and all of this finally calms down...all the Lefties who suddenly bought guns (the horror) will be turning them back in with only a single shot fired (an accidental discharge...the same way they reproduce) and the rest of us get to pick up some nice firearms at the used price.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I hope you keep buying guns with your money. The more you spend on guns, the less you spend on silly things like political donations.
ReplyDeleteNah. I have plenty for both. Don't worry about me.
DeleteOh and BTW, One Brow, I hope you keep commenting here as the more time you spend doing that the less you'll be out promoting the Russia Collusion Hoax.
DeleteI didn't realize there was a hoax. Perhaps you should explain that to your fellow Republicans in the Senate, who just released a report supporting the notion of Russian interference.
DeleteIf you mean Trump himself colluded, I have never said that.
Well, the Soviets/Russians have done their best to interfere for 90+ years now, so what's new? And China has for 30-40 years, at least. Maybe nearly 60 years, considering how many Maoists were about from the late 1960s onward.
DeleteLarry, the new part is how members of Trump's campaign (but I see no reason to say Trump himself) actively sought and cooperated with the Russian interference. I don't recall seeing that before. Do you?
DeleteAt my local gunshop, they had some guns, but the prices have doubled in the last month or so. I'm a huge fan of Capitalism, but that's ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteNo 9mm. but you can still get .40 around here. I knew I bought my P320 chambered in .40 for a reason. This is about a mile from the Federal ammunition factory. My nephew works there and says that .40 is all that they're allowed to buy at a discount anymore.
I've got two pistols to sell. A S&W Model 52-2 match-grade semi-auto in .38 Special midpower wadcutter. Unless you're a serious bullseye shooter like my late father, it's too specialized. And only 5+1 capacity. However, since my Sig P365XL came in, my Sig P365 is somewhat surplus to requirements. I keep dithering about selling it, though, along with holster and 2 12-rd mags. Would it be smarter to hold onto it just in case? Or would it be best to take advantage of a seller's market? Decisions, decisions.
DeleteStay safe brother Amselem, and ditto regarding CZ’s! 97B is next on my list.
