The Mummy Mutters: SOTU Address

Well, I watched it. Well, most of it, anyhow. It was just too, too unbearable to watch all the way through. Yes, I write of last night's the State of the Union speech by the alleged President of the United States.

Where to start? I normally would label this sort of speech as a "word salad," but that is too generous. It seemed more akin to when you open a forgotten drawer in your tool bench in the garage, and find a tangled ball of 1990's earphone cables, old charger cords, a broken shoelace somebody saved, and a long piece of twine snaking its way through the whole mess. The thing has neither head nor tail, beginning nor end, untangling it proves beyond even the knot-cutting powers of Alexander the Great, and it seems best to throw it all away. That said, we go on . . .

The man is delusional. He lives in alternate universe. He actually seems to think, well, "think" proves a big word with Biden, let's say to have been told that he's doing really, really well. He has no idea of the massive disaster over which he presides. The first part of the address seemed an obviously hastily slapped together gooey nonsense about Ukraine and the great role Biden has played in "unifying our allies." Right. Whatever you might think of the Euros, they have proven themselves much more forward leaning and action-oriented than the sleepy Biden-Harris-Blinken team. I don't think we're necessarily taking the right steps, but the US has not been the leader. Biden has unified nobody at home or abroad. He spoke tough words against Putin and vowed to oppose him across the board because the Ukrainian people have proven themselves a "wall" against the Russian invaders.

He vowed to do everything except that which would actually work to weaken Putin and return an independence of action to the USA. Long-time readers of this humble blog know of what I speak: Fire up US oil and gas production and exports; eliminate our import of energy from Russia. Until we do that, we pay Putin to get around our sanctions. Our nonsensical obsession with a green economy, makes wars such as the one in Ukraine possible. Putin makes money selling us the oil we refuse to pump for ourselves because, well, you know, Gaia.

On foreign policy, he said nothing about his disaster in Afghanistan, the threat from China, or the situation in the Middle East, including Iran. His policies threaten to destroy the amazing progress that Trump made in bringing peace to that region. He said nothing about the wave of crime and violence which is destroying what's left of our major cities. His cry to "fund the police!" is an empty one, driven by the polls, after some years of him and his progressive wokester allies calling for precisely the opposite. In addition, he made no mention of the millions of foreign criminals he has allowed into the country and distributed around the nation.

His economic blather was too horrible. His solution for the inflation he caused that now ruins businesses and lives? "Cut costs!" Wow! I guess businesses should just not pay their rapidly escalating electric bills? Sure.

I kept expecting him to tell us, "Things don't cost more, folks, they're just more valuable!"

OK. Enough.

  1. No comments on China because they are his pay-masters, he has no problems and clears their way for them.
I read the speech, he is either cutting the deficit in half or knocking a Trillion off with class warfare he is always talking about since he was a Leftist student.

Tks Dip, you're a real trooper, good to know you covered it...
I wasn't gonna tune-in last night, but inadvertantly
slid thru one of the tele-channels, hesitated
there, just long enough to hear "Bite-Me" begin
his lament viz the alleged sub-par health-care
Beau received for his Brain Cancer...
I shoved off, and got in the rack early...
    btw,
Saw that Lou Dobbs was called in to
report on the SOTU over at the "Warroom",
said he: “I could not think of one honest
statement that the man (Biden) actually made.”

Sounds like I didn't miss too much,
tho am now in a better frame of
mind to read your Post on the SOTU~~~

  5. It is astonishing how little discussion Biden's talk has stimulated. Like throwing a rock into a pond and there being no ripples.

Kudos, Dip, for taking the time to watch -- so that the rest of us would not have to. I will admit I lost a bet -- I did not think that Biden would be able to stay awake long enough to finish reading the teleprompter.

  6. I enjoyed how he praised the Ukrainians for defending their nation, and later spoke of disarming the citizens of his own country.

  7. Joe must think Ukraine is winning and Russia is bogged down. Neither is true. He thinks Vlad has lost his mind. Joe has lost his mind and listens to too much tv happy talk from analysts on tv and the Pentagon. Fits right in with all his happy "green talk".

  8. Dip, I'm wondering if this report (about the lifting of sanctions on Iran) has the ring of truth to you:

    3. This is a long and technical thread, but here’s what you should know: the deal being negotiated in Vienna is dangerous to our national security, it is illegal, it is illegitimate, and it in no way serves U.S. interests in either the short or long term.

    4. Here’s why: Led by Rob Malley, the U.S. has promised to lift sanctions on some of the regime’s worst terrorists and torturers, leading officials in the regime’s WMD infrastructure, and is currently trying to lift sanctions on the IRGC itself. Let’s dive in.

    5. First, Biden’s team is preparing to rescind the Supreme Leaders’ Office Executive Order (E.O. 13876) as soon as this coming Monday, and lift sanctions on nearly every one of the 112 people/entities sanctioned under it, even if they’re sanctioned under other legal authorities.

    6. We sanctioned some of the worst people you can possibly imagine under this authority, like Mohsen Rezaei, who was involved in the 1994 AMIA bombing that killed 85 people in Argentina. He’ll be able to live free of sanctions next week...
    7. Also under this action, the U.S. will lift sanctions on IRGC Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan, who led IRGC forces in Lebanon and Syria when Hezbollah bombed the Marine compound in Beirut and killed 241 U.S. service members in 1983.

    8. Who else? Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior advisor to Supreme Leader Khamenei, who was charged in Argentina for homicide for the 1994 AMIA bombing and as one of the “ideological masterminds” behind the attack. He also helped prop up Assad’s brutality...
    9. This would also lift sanctions on Khamenei’s personal slush funds known as “bonyads”, including Astan Quds Razavi and Execution of Imam Khomeini’s Order, which confiscated houses and billions from political dissidents and religious minorities to enrich Khamenei and his goons.
    10. Sanctions also to be lifted on Bonyad Mostazafan, a massive conglomerate that systematically confiscated property from Jews and Bahai’s after 1979. It is enmeshed ...and is a corruption network used to enrich top Iranian terrorists.

    11. It’s important to note that the Supreme Leaders Office EO was not at all related to Iran’s nuclear program, and the removal of these sanctions under a so-called nuclear deal is a ridiculous farce. The State Department’s lawyers know better but were forced... by Malley.
    12. Our lawyers were clear when we released this EO: it was a response to actions by Iran & its proxies to destabilize the Middle East, promote international terrorism, advance Iran’s ballistic missile program, & Iran’s attack against U.S. military asset+civilian veh...
    13. There’s much more: sanctions will be lifted on huge swaths of the regime’s economic and financial arms (close to 40 major entities) that support the Iranian terror, repression, and WMD infrastructure Auth...
    14. For example, they are lifting sanctions on economic arms of the Mehr Eqtesad network and Bonyad Taavon Basij which directly funds the Basij Resistance Force that recruits and trains child soldiers combat.
    15. The U.S. is not lifting sanctions on the Basij (responsible for killing thousands of Iranian protesters) itself,.... Malley obliged.
    16. These sanctions are also not related to Iran’s nuclear program, but we’re about to lift sanctions on them anyways....

  12. I watched a replay of the State of the Union address. What a frightening situation. A triumvirate of a geriatric President who apparently does not know that Ukranians are not Iranians, a Vice President who cannot string an adult level observation together and a wrinkled old haridan who has no real empathy for ordinary Americans and whose only real interest is to hang on to power. Unless I am wrong [which I frequently am] that triumvirate are in that order the most powerful people in the Western world. And to top it off you have John Kerry who apparently thinks that climate change is more important than Russia invading Ukraine.

Not what your allies take a great deal of comfort from.

    Where are you Donald T?
