In the wake of the defeat of Spain's socialists in regional elections, we now see the election in Portugal where the socialists took another shot to the gut. It appears that voters in Europe are starting to throw the lefty creeps out, but, and here it comes, the creeps get the last laugh.
Spain's conservative Partido Popular (PP), the big winner in last month's regional voting, has discovered the little gift that long lefty rule leaves for any challenger: the money is gone, the finances are in ruins, the state is committed to a vast array of social programs for which it cannot pay, and the lefties have dropped it all in the lap of their conservative rivals. A report in the Financial Times tells us that the PP is discovering this sad truth as it moves into power. The conservatives in Portugal will find the same thing, and, if it ever happens, the GOP will also find the same when it boots out Obama.
The lefties give a grand party, and then ask the conservatives to pay for it. In order to pay for it, of course, the conservatives get to go out and be the evil ones: the ones who close schools, police stations, and take people off the dole.
