Scandal-palooza! Obama's Biggest Achievement: Making Al Capone Look Good

Like all of you, I grew up hearing how incredibly clever and wonderful the Feds had been when they busted Chicago's fierce gangster Al "Scarface" Capone. They, of course, couldn't get him on bootlegging, smuggling, corruption, prostitution, murder, or bad fashion sense, but they got him on tax evasion. Al subsequently spent several years as a guest of the Federal prison system, including a stint at Alcatraz, before getting released for health reasons. Not long after this release, he died a relatively young man in Florida. One wonders, however, whether we don't have ol' Al completely wrong. Maybe he was the American Robin Hood or Zorro, or at least a misunderstood hero of the working and entrepreneurial "classes," finding innovative ways to give the people what they wanted; trying to keep his profits; and fighting corrupt, parasitic, and bullying cops and bureaucrats.

Events of the past few days certainly seem to show that the forces that put away Al, now seem to threaten all of us. The tiny government of the 1920s and 1930s has morphed into a monstrous Leviathan-cum-Saturn out to devour us all. It seems altogether fitting that the flurry of scandals now threatening to bury the current administration comes during the watch of another Chicagoan, of a man schooled in the ways of the system that put away Capone.

Obama and his cronies have clearly learned the lesson that the IRS provides a very powerful tool to use against opponents. If you can't beat them fair and square at the ballot box, or at the debate podium, or in the blogosphere, unleash the tax man! Use the powers bestowed on that agency by our bewildering and evermore intrusive tax code to bring opponents into line. Use the data collected to smear and slander, and prosecutors to pursue those opponents. Silence! The Great O demands it! You noisy Tea Party types stop partying! You pro-Israeli Jews, didn't you get the memo? Want your books audited? Data leaked? Reputations ruined?

The scandals--Benghazi, AP phones, and IRS, among others--come not just as some have said because the government is too big, and too difficult to control and manage. These scandals have a root that goes much deeper and will prove more difficult to kill than just trimming the size of government a bit. They are products of the arrogant liberal orthodoxy (see here for some thoughts on that) that rules almost unchallenged within our government, universities, media, and Hollywood. There is an unspoken assumption in these corridors of influence and power that it's the liberal way or the highway. I just came from spending a few days at a major university and was stunned--yet again--by the complete lack of ideological debate, by the denigration of anybody who thinks even remotely different from the prevailing liberal wisdom. There is no diversity of thought, no humility in expressing views, no consideration given that maybe the other side has a valid point. It is, therefore, no surprise that IRS bureaucrats should unquestioningly carry out instructions to give special scrutiny to "Tea Party" groups, or that the State Department spokeswoman should worry about the Republicans in Congress using the truth to criticize the administration, and arguing for the truth to be altered.

Obama is the poster child of this liberal orthodoxy. He is a man of no notable achievement, almost invisible until he became president, but a man who complied and complies with the rules of the orthodoxy more so than any other president or politician we ever have seen. One sees it in his barely contained anger on being questioned or challenged; in his dismissive and condescending attitude towards opponents; the ease and confidence with which he rewrites his own biography and even the most recent events to fit in with the world view of the orthodoxy.

The new Obama Chicago way makes the old Capone Chicago way look positively benign.

Reading again Dip, your post of November 18th, 2012's comments set this ol' boy's heart aflutter. Thanks very much for Diplomad 2.0!

  5. The question reporters should be asking Obama and Carney at every presser is this:
"Mr President(Carney) will you guarantee I won't be persecuted by the IRS or any other arm of the Federal government if I ask you a question you don't like? Will you promise the American people you won't continue persecuting your political enemies?"

I guarantee you if Obama was GOP, some cheeky reporter would ask something similar.

I think this will help dress the window on hussein's regime, quite well, thank you! Keep in mind, names like Foster, Rose, etc., and see this piece, chilling, even so as Dip's Al Capone alliteration, so well put.

    http://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/2013/05/16/hillarys-lying-goes-back-to-the-nixon-era/

“Because she was a liar,” Zeifman said, [Of Hillary] in an interview last week. “She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality.”

And too, she wrote that '69 thesis, in college, on social revolution, including alinski thoughts! See reference here, for a bit more detail: http://frontpagemag.com/2013/dgreenfield/our-soldiers-blood-on-hillary-obamas-hands/

Try this on for size, excerpted from the piece: "“If the ideals Alinsky espouses were actualized, the result would be social revolution,” Hillary Clinton wrote in her conclusion.

The social revolution of her 1969 thesis is once again here. Social values are under attack while soldiers die overseas without being allowed to fight back. The radicals care for nothing for the blood that they spill for their revolutions. Not the blood of a single man or of a thousand men." from Dan Greenfield

  7. Obama has always overloaded congress, the media and us (the public) with more than can be digested at any one time. Doing so, he knows attention will shift from one issue to another and then settling on the single issue (in this case scandal) that is pushed by the lap dogs in the media. Scandal of choice is the IRS. Keep in mind that this IRS scandal was served up on a platter by... (drum roll)... the IRS itself. It provides cover for the foreign policy disaster that was gun and missile running from Libya to Turkey to Syria. I won't believe anything coming out about Benghazi until the truth is told as known by Petraeus and Gen. Hamm.
Of course, after the Benghazi event is laid bare as fact - then we should go after the Obama's IRS. Flat and fair is the solution that is so obvious I doubt it will ever come to pass.

But then I hadn't in mind the candy of the Obama/Romney debates wherein Candy Crowley covered Obama's butt when Obama said to the effect, "Well if you check, you'll see I [Obama] did mention it was terrorism."

  9. My wife is a a "low-level" IRS employee. She and her coworkers laugh loud and long at the possibility that someone of their rank could do something like "low-level employees" are accused of doing in Ohio and DC. They would bring Federal Marshals to their cubicles before coffee break. It does now appear that the guy who was fired two weeks before he was scheduled to retire, anyway, really does have a history of such political skullduggery, in the Clinton years.

However, the IRS scandal may have longer legs than the other two scandals, because they could draw attention away from Benghazi, I mean, from Hillary.

    1. Exactly right! I was a low-level IRS employee at one time, too. EXTREMELY regimented and supervised. In comparison, the lowly E1 in the military had a life of ease and nonsupervision.

I did not stay long. I went to work there out of curiosity more than anything else, but soon decided it was hopeless. I couldn't work there. My best buddy at work was an Air Force retiree; I heard he never went back from lunch one day.

  10. Look, it's true this isn't just because the federal government has become ungovernable. It is about the deep liberal orthodoxy as you say. But you aren't going to get anywhere attacking that. First, like the devil, their greatest trick is making people believe they don't exist. Second, it's their commonality and if attacked they'll circle around in defense.

And the defenses will come from both sides of the aisle up in DC. The Republicans in DC are chomping at the bit to do some amateur theatrics to draw the fire off with their ignorant and ineffective pontifications. First rule, keep the bureaucracy from being held accountable.

But if we use this and every example to illustrate that it is not incompetent elected/appointed officials but the uncontrollable bureaucracy, then we can erode and reveal. They aren't going to cut the government, but if people start to see government as something to be wary of, they won't accept the common dissembling. They will not give the government man the benefit of a doubt but rightfully see him as an existential threat. And the politicians won't be able to distract becuas their ineffective posturing will be seen as further evidence of ungovernable government. Only then will the public start to see the liberal orthodoxy, the deep and abiding political bias and the need to never trust anyone from the government.

Same goes for universities, the media and Hollywood.

    1. Yes. Obama is the ideal of a post modern university president.

And thus the government we have today operates like any other large, powerful university; above the law, indifferent to individual rights, and a proclivity for budgetary racketeering and accounting fraud that no overt commercial enterprise could endure without RICO investigation and subsequent convictions.

The military-industrial complex has been long usurped and overtaken by the university-government complex.

When did diploma mills for "journalism" and "government" or "public administration" become legitimate academic and scholarly endeavors?

Never. Thus the serial partisan malice and naked avarice of the typical post-boomer university graduate working in contra-commerce today.

Credentialed, not educated. They are the new imperials matriculating as the ruling class.

      This is the new Imperialism.

    2. An excellent analysis, Willem, IMHO. I particularly like "military-industrial complex has been long usurped and overtaken by the university-government complex." and especially "Credentialed, not educated." Although far too many others, especially "teachers", especially in Chicago, are merely credentialed, not educated:

      http://frontpagemag.com/2013/dgreenfield/hiring-better-teachers-may-be-racist-say-bad-teachers/
Laugh and cry, at same time with these facts, about teachers who can both read and write, not!

I suspect that "social work" degree, whatever that is, is more legit, very slightly, than "journalism" and "government" or "public administration"

This description of history, far too recent, is chilling, because of the obvious parallels, some in place already, recently:

The criminal crookedness of this regime, and yes, even the universities, is spawning much evil breakdown in the populace, among the low information liberals and others, most often IMO, credentialed, but rarely educated.

Obama Expresses His Thoughts On Dismantling The Bill Of Rights
Posted on May 18, 2013 by stevengoddard

“In his new book, At the Brink, economist and author John R. Lott Jr., assesses the presidency of Barack Obama and recalls conversations regarding gun laws they had while working at the University of Chicago.
In Chapter Three, Mr. Lott discusses gun-control and takes the reader back to his time at the University of Chicago, where he and then-professor Barack Obama spoke on numerous occasions about guns in America.
“I don’t believe people should be able to own guns,” Obama told Lott one day at the University of Chicago Law School.”

[And perhaps this is the hitleresque disarmament (that always has preceded totalitarian takeover of governments) that my earlier comment, by Katie Werthmann spoke of, and all was supposed to be implemented slowly and smoothly, by years of highly radical socialist/marxist/muslim regimes, held in power by massive election fraud, and increasing fear, in cooperation with support from massive low information voters, as well?]

Author Quotes Then-Professor Obama Saying, ‘I Don’t Believe People Should Be Able To Own Guns’ | CNS News

There is a very great quantity of dangerous and highly suspicious activity occurring in this regime, as never before, in this quantity, in America. We had much infiltration in the Communist days, and feared of more than actually occurred, with the nazis and sympathizers, during and in, the buildup to WW2, if you remember.

Much of the current activity is bald faced, much is secretive, and the total in coincidence, spells extreme danger for America, and our Constitution, from enemy infiltration mostly of our Federal Government, from top down, but including increasing amounts of our State levels. If you doubt, examine it for yourselves.

There are only three choices, if you don't already know what is going on, you may be one who hopes, one who just can't believe, can't deal with truth and doesn't want to know, or a realist who examines all the facts, all of them, so you can be ready if and when action, or resistance must be taken, even if only a proper vote, and/or election activism. Get the truth and knowledge, it is mostly out there, on the internet (while it is yet not censored), and at least Fox News, pretty much.

These people are not fooling around, rattling about in the regime, they do have a game plan, and it is not so bald faced, but it has been found, and is out there.

And never forget, 31 of the 32 most wanted terrorists, are muslim.
And BTW, there is a valid possible alternative ending for the syrian conflict, and here it is: http://frontpagemag.com/2013/dgreenfield/the-colonization-of-syria/
