Join the NRA

I had for years belonged to the National Rifle Association (NRA). Some time while overseas, I let my membership lapse. In the wake of the nonsense being spouted  by Obama and the New York Times re gun ownership, I just renewed my membership.

I normally don't advocate for any organization but will now: If you are a member of the NRA, renew that membership; if you're not, and are concerned about the steady erosion of individual rights, then join America's oldest civil rights organization and a highly effective, well-run lobbying outfit, the NRA.

That is a great rebuke to the progressive anti-gun propaganda to which we are all being subjected.

  1. My renewal has been here collecting dust. I was thinking about letting it lapse because I am no longer active in competition.

Well, I've blown the dust off...

  3. You have our moral support from the shooters Downunder; don't let them do to you what they did to us.

  5. In the U.S., please also consider Gun Owners of America. They are a bit more hard-core as far as 2nd Amendment absolutism, i.e., less anxious to accept the lesser of two legislative evils when that lesser evil nevertheless represents an erosion of your rights.

  6. The NRA might be the largest such organization, but I recommend you consider including Gunowners of America, Second Amendment Foundation and Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear arms, as well as the many state-run groups, all of whom are committed to defending the Second Amendment.

And as I write this, I'm the 7th commenter, so you no longer have six readers of your blog, you have seven, maybe more ...

  12. I sold my rifle and ammo decades ago. I'm tempted to apply for a (UK) gun licence and start shooting again, if only to mock those Americans who have persuaded themselves that guns are prohibited in Britain. I'd store the rifle at the nearest range - I don't want some idiot breaking into the house with the intention of stealing a gun.

    1. I have googled: what I would want is now called a "firearms certificate" - maybe it always was; it's so long since I owned a gun, and the fol-de-rol surrounding it was so much less in those days, that I'm not surprised that I can't remember what it used to be called. Getting my original licence/certificate must have been really easy because I can remember nothing about it.

    2. Come to think of it, despite the UK's gun laws, it seems that the Bogtrotters--oops, IRA-- have no trouble getting them. BTW, sincerest apoligies from the rebellious colonies over Billary Clinton having the abominable Gerry Adams over at the White House back in the '90's.

    3. When my daughter was a schoolgirl she could tell me which was the local pub in which you could hire a pistol for the weekend. She even knows the best way to hide a pistol. I imagine that there are illegal guns all over the place - the Balkans being a major source. But we don't shoot each other much. There's the odd gangster killing - presumably to do with the drugs trade. There's the occasional suicide by shotgun; or, sadder yet, murder/suicide. Nobody seems to use rifles much for crime.

  14. Cheers to each of you patriots and shooters!
I signed my daughter up on December 7th,and renewed my membership for another year! Also, proud to be a 'sustaining member' of the "NRA Institute for Legislative Action"!
Lord willing, our American 'well regulated militia' won't need to be activated in order to escort the 'Dogeater in Chief' off the Bridge!

    On Watch~~~
