A Little Piece on Nutty White Guys

It's been a lazy sunny day here in southern California. I went shooting yesterday and slightly improved my results. I was going to go back again today, but felt guilty about leaving the dogs alone again for a few hours. The beasts and I have been sitting around watching "Longmire"--starring a terrific and under-appreciated Australian actor, Robert Taylor, who can do an American accent better than I can--and cleaning my guns. I love my two Kimber 45s, but the full size Kimber is kind of a pain to clean. I am always terrified that I am going to get a recoil spring embedded in my forehead. To avoid that, I let my Akita disassemble it . . . nah, just be careful, that spring is under a lot of tension. Anyhow, the three of us were sitting on the floor watching the TV, cleaning the guns, and . . . oh, one more tangent: when cleaning a gun think of Laurence J. Peter's aphorism, "Cleaning anything involves making something else dirty, but anything can get dirty without something else getting clean." We managed to get a lot of stuff dirty, and the guns ended up only marginally less so than when we started . . . anyhow, watching the news, it struck me that increasingly the white men left in the Democratic Party are pretty nutty. At the risk of being Captain Obvious, I must ask if others have noticed this?

The Democratic Party is one of the oldest continually operating political parties in the world--arguably the oldest voter based party. It has always had a bit of the bad boy image to it, and has had a long list of impressive politicians who, nevertheless, had something of an edge, not completely kosher. The Democrats, of course, were the party of slavery, secession, segregation, white lynch mobs, and massive voter fraud; one of the early Democrats, Andrew Jackson--held up as the founder of the party, in fact--was probably a full-blown genocidal maniac--and I am pleased he will be removed from our $20 bill. They had a crude racist populism from the start and have been reluctant in recent times to admit it. They now hide that racist populism under the banner of progressivism, but continue to play the race card at every opportunity.

For a number of reasons not worth going into here, the white voters, especially white males and married white women, and most especially working and middle class males, have moved away from the Democrats and vote increasingly Republican. The Democratic party has become largely a party of public sector workers, university professors and students, lawyers, labor union leaders, socialists, journalists, rich actors, crony bankers and CEOs, and, above all, racial and ethnic minorities. The glue that holds this disparate grouping together is government: Democrats are the party of government and of expanding the public sector at the expense of the private, while doling out vast sums to those members of the shrinking and maligned private sector who play along--Solyndra, anybody?

The electoral appeal of the Democratic party is to those who want more government, and who feel that a whole litany of current and historical grievances can only be addressed by more government taking more from, well, from the "rich," defined as anybody who is not one of the aforementioned categories. It is a party increasingly divorced from economic reality; it seeks to repeal the pesky and brutal laws of economics by reforming our souls, by getting us not to think or articulate bad thoughts, by getting us to give up on greed and privilege and allow the government to allocate resources and ensure the well-being of us all. And when that fails, it is a party that reverts to its violent lynch mob past to get its way.

Don't want to make this too long; I have still got my .357 Henry Big Boy rifle to clean--great gun, by the way, although a bit of pain to load. I notice that the white guys, especially the senior politicians who remain in the party, are more than a bit loopy. Gone are the Scoop Jacksons, the Moynihans, the Liebermans with whom one could disagree, but yet recognize that they were common sense politicians with whom a deal could be reached, and, above all, who were deeply patriotic. The party is left with gems such as the increasingly unhinged Senator Reid, the clownish Tim "I speak Spanish" Kaine, the unbearably smug Governors Brown and Cuomo, and the completely insane Mayor DeBlasio. They are white guys trying very hard to hide the fact that they are white guys. They adopt positions of extreme pandering to the worst and most radical elements of the party, and actively work for the elimination of the white majority in this country as a way to "solve" all our problems. They are ashamed of being who they are and must work to ensure that they are never succeeded by people like them.

OK, let's let it go at that. The beasts want to go for a walk.

  1. Oh c'mon, 1911s are easy to clean, easy to maintain and are fabulous to shoot. I've been toting, shooting and cleaning one of these things since 1970 . It'll soon be second nature .

I've got the Big Boy in .41 Magnum. fantastic cartridge .

    1. I love the 1911 but cleaning it--ugh. Big Boy in 41, me jealous. I was thinking of getting one in 44 mag since I've ordered a 44 mag revolver. Wife might object, however

  2. I recently purchased a Mare's Leg in .357 Magnum. Impractical? Yep. Cool? Definitely. I should probably clean it.

  3. This very issue regarding the holy 1911 (the retention piece/spring launching into Near Earth Orbit on disassembly) was addressed at weaponsman.com by "Hognose", the genial SF host. He advises disassembly in a large ziploc bag to prevent airs above ground. And we know he's smart because he reads Our Diplomad and quotes him!

    1. He's either a very small person or he has an enormous ziplock bag.

  5. Contrast Shiela Jackson Lee with Barbara Jordan ... to see what has happened to the Democrat party. Or Harry Reid with Sam Nunn. Or John Kerry with Bob Kerrey. Or Hellery Clinton with Beelzebub.

  6. All lever guns are a pain to load. How do you load yours? Do you use some sort of tool or dowel to push the cartridges in?

    2. Loading tube with a dowel which will fly out of your hand if your not careful as it has a very strong spring. The gun is a delight to shoot, however. Even I am a good shot with it.

  7. Longmire is a favourite of ours too. Robert Taylor spent his formative years in our State of Western Australia in the very large Pilbara region. This is mining central, mainly iron ore, and is Australia's powerhouse. The countryside looks a lot like Moab, in Utah. You would enjoy visiting here.

  8. This entry in my blog shows some of the countryside a little further north in the Kimberley region. Copy and paste into your browser.

    2. You MUST go toSydney harbour, most spectacular. Avoid Melbourne. See the Outback. Visit Darwin, bombed flat by the Japanese a few months after Pearl harbour. Drive Westward through Kimberely and along the North and West coast to Perth and then retiurn (avoiding Melbourne) along the Nularbor Plane.

    3. Nice web site. I've been to Perth and Sydney and Toowoomba about 20 years ago for the last. At one time I was thinking about land inland from Toowoomba. Just too far from here.

    4. Include a visit to Adelaide: a gem of a city with a mediterranean climate, surrounded by wonderful wine areas. Be sure to go while the electricity grid is actually working. (South Australia is paying the price for too many wind turbines.)

Be sure to go snorkelling on the Barrier Reef.

In terms of flora and fauna it's another planet. Just go!

  9. Dip, speaking of nutty Democrats, have you had a chance to review the 2010-14 State Department emails that Wikileaks released in searchable form in July? HRC and her minions appear to be watching domestic affairs very closely, and the level of paranoia about Republicans is off the charts.

  10. Consider the case of Oklahoma. When I was a child there in the 50s, there really wasn't a Republican party. It was Democrats in control everywhere. I left it in the 60s, but had family there. I watched it flip back and forth between Dem and Repub, finally settling on Repub. Last election, there wasn't a single county that went for Obama.

There are Democrats there, but they are all anti-frackers that think fracking causes earthquakes. The primary went heavily for Bernie. It's what you see in the Democratic Party across the country. Kaine couldn't even say he is Hillary's "right hand man".

  11. Ironically (?) the Democrats are the party of billionaires, big ccrony corporations and vacuous famous people. It reminds me of the Social Wars of Rome. The most corrupt play the people mob.

The Democrats require a Lumpenproletariat to justify their support and actions (of theft, mostly) and of course, they will never will do anything about them. See all Democrat controlled big-city downtowns. The plutocrats love the democrats as a front. How is it that billionaires can financially support a party against the "1%" unles, of coursse, the party is NOT against the 0.00001%.

  12. Jay Cost wrote a very good book on the modern Democrat Party called "Spoiled Rotten." Sadly he seems to be in the NeverTrump crowd now.
I was shopping for my Christmas present not long again and came across a very nice Walther P4. Some body bought it before I went back but there are others around. That is the German police version of the P 38.

We are going to Tucson house hunting tomorrow. After 60 years I think I am done with California. It will be fun to have a place to shoot my flintlock rifle again.

  13. In my shop, the Great American Swindle--oops, public education--it seems I'm about one of a dozen people who tend towards the GOP.

BTW, I used to be of the mind I'd write in Ted Cruz, since my deep indigo state is probably in Shrillary Shrooooooooooo's back pocket. However, with all those vacuous Hollywood celerybiters (or is it celebrities) vowing to leave the country if Trump is elected, I guess I'll also vote for Trump about 19 times (I'm re-registering as a Dem, so I'll get away with it) just to see it happen. Having Pence just a heartbeat away from the White House also looks better than Kaine.

As for Trump and women, I strongly suspect that half of those ladies who went to Cleveland to protest in the nude against him probably hoped he'd notice just in case he tired of Melania.

  14. This recent tape with Trump shooting off his mouth about women like a teenager is not going to help. It's stepping all over the revelations that are coming out about Hillary's emails and her crookedness.

    1. Probably planned that way by the Hillary campaign. Clever.

    2. I'd like to say these are 'self-inflicted' wounds... but that makes them out to be some sort of malady of the campaign.
I've no doubt celebrities and politicians talk like this all the time.
I also have no doubt that when it comes to women, Trump is 'no worse than Bill Clinton'.
I keep lowering the bar for Trump and wonder when it would be 'low enough for Hillary'. I just can't fathom another rabid liberal at scotus. I don't know that Trump will appoint someone good, I just know for certain that Hillary will appoint someone very bad.

  15. When I saw Longmire lugging a Winchester and a 1911 Longmire became my go to show. Haven't started in on the new season yet, wife-unit likes it too and have to coordinate w/o the services of Norman to see it together. Gotta wonder how Henry's going to dig out of the Marianas Trench he seems to have dug for himself.

I liked the cleaning quote. Was that Laurence J. Peter of "The Peter Principle"?
