Trump Tape: Feet of Clay vs. Pajama Boys

Daniel 2:31-33 (NKJV)

31 You, O king, were watching; and behold, a great image! This great image, whose splendor was excellent, stood before you; and its form was awesome.
32 This image’s head was of fine gold, its chest and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze,
33 its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of clay.

I wrote the original draft of this post re the Trump tape at 0300 this morning. I almost published it, but at the last moment remembered the wise ol' saying from either Shakespeare, Lincoln, Twain, or "Banjo" Paterson, that "one neither should tweet nor blog in the darkest hours of the morn." Whoever said it was right. I re-read at 0900 what I had written six hours earlier and . . . delete, delete, delete, maybe not 33,000 times but many deletes, nevertheless, followed. BleachBit ordered.

That said, here I go again.

I've listened to the audio tape of Trump's unguarded "hot mic" comments. Shocking? Disgusting? Indefensible? Absolutely . . . yes, well, that is if you've lived your life as a delicate snowflake in a nice cool safe place. If, however, you've been in the company of men, when they are allowed to be men, the language can get a bit colorful; that's not surprising. Look, I don't talk like that because I spent  over half of my life in a profession in which one never knew who was listening, a misplaced comment, an infelicitous phrase, or a bit of overly exuberant verbal color could prove fatal to your career. Embassies, consulates, cocktail parties, negotiating sessions, and public venues, are not places conducive to uncensored guy talk. I have to admit, however, that when we would get out into the bush for a few days, far from recording devices and the PC police, in places such as Pakistan, Guatemala, and Bolivia, well, the language could get a bit, uh, saltier, shall we say--not mine, of course, but that of others . . .  that's my story, and I am sticking to it.

The 2005 Trump tape captures a conversation between two (trigger alert: semi-nasty word about to appear) bullshitters doing what bullshitters do, bullshit. What I find appalling is that somebody would record this and keep it for so many years. That is malice aforethought. Both men on the tape, lest we forget, were private citizens having a private conversation. Let us also not forget that Trump, at the time, was a Democrat. Come to think of it, he should just claim that he and Billy Bush were auditioning to form a white rapper group, Salt & Sugar. All would be forgiven.

We live in a digital and salacious age. One of the great triumphs of modern science is used to promote sex, and destroy private lives. We no longer can have leaders and heroes who live large colorful lives. Lincoln, Churchill, Eisenhower, and so many others would be undone by this age, and its use of intrusive technology that memorializes our foibles forever.

While this tape is run four hundred times a day, and crowds out all other political conversation, America's core national interests at home and abroad are in free fall. Our future is disappearing, but we must titter and tweet away over an eleven year-old tape of big boys talking trash. We are seeing a flood of new leaks showing just how corrupt and two-faced Hillary Clinton is, but we must talk about Trump's use of bad words. The same media that has given the Clintons a pass on so much, including serious allegations of rape and cover-up, must now feign outrage over a bawdy conversation.

A Spanish saying wisely notes, "The fish dies because of its mouth." Trump has provided the enemy something with which they can play forever. It will be even harder now for him to get his message out. The hostile media will talk only of this, making his crude words far worse than they are in fact. Is this the death knell for the Trump campaign? Is it going to turn away supporters or those who were considering supporting him? I don't know. Perhaps. Can he pivot to more important issues? I hope he tries, but . . . at a minimum he should apologize to his wife, kids, and Mike Pence.

The debate tomorrow will be critical. While I have doubts that the "moderators" and left-wing media will not let this rest--and who knows what else they have queued up for the coming four weeks?--Trump, nevertheless, will have to handle it with calm and grace, and keep bringing the conversation around to the disaster that looms for our nation and a civilization if the same old corruptocrats get re-elected. He is paying the price for defying the bipartisan elite. I guess those who switch their vote to Hillary because of The Donald tape, will have the satisfaction of knowing that if she wins our borders and economy will collapse, our foreign policy will be a disaster, and terrorists will pour in, but, at least, she did not say a "bad" word on tape.

Sad times.

    Er, no.

Perhaps you associated with men who didn't mind showing disrespect to women either publically, or privately, but I live in an area where men are judged by what they do, and say, both publically, and privately.

I am frankly sick of those who would never accept your excuse for any Democrat but seem to have no trouble saying "but, but, but Hillary" in order to defend Donald Trump.

Bottom line; there are NO good options this election cycle. But at least acknowledge that Trump is nothing more than a crass individual that has now drug the GOP down to his level. A sad day indeed.

    1. When Hillary wins, and our borders and economy completely collapse, our foreign interests come crashing down, and the Supreme Court is packed with justices who will take away our second amendment and many other rights, at least we can console ourselves with the knowledge that our President does not say bad words on tape.

    3. "No good option" or "only unpalatable options" is what got Jimmy Carter to walk away from Shah in Iran, look where that got us? It's what got us our current 'involvement' in Syria. How is that working out? Work hard to decide the least of the evils, and then go after it as hard as we can, knowing that we just might have made a mistake.

People of conscience are not allowed the luxury of throwing their hands up in the air because they reckon that both candidates are 'infinitely bad'. We are required to look very carefully and put much effort into deciding the best course.
From that perspective, I agree, Trump should never be elected 'Pastor in Chief'.

I am *very* disappointed in these comments, but I've already made my peace with Trump absolutely not representing my moral/ethical values. The guy is many-times divorced and by all accounts a terrible person to be around. That doesn't mean I can stop evaluating which candidate should become President.

I'm pretty certain that Trump is no more misogynistic than Bill Clinton, and Hillary stayed married to him, which makes his views, her views.

Really? Then their mamas failed them in their upbringing. And their Christian training for we are known by our deeds done in private, not in public.

Doesn't say much for your "profession", now does it?

We certainly are when "My guy's bad but your's is worse" becomes a campaign slogan.

  6. Thank you, Diplomad, for your sane approach to this. I still work in the same field as you did for all those years, and see the glee on my colleagues faces now. They believe that they've won because of this tape. I've already voted absentee, as I'm currently posted overseas, so my vote for Trump is already recorded. Still, I wish that he would listen to you, me, even Mike Pence. I knew he was crass and vulgar when I voted for him (I supported Cruz in the primaries), but so were other presidents. LBJ, though maybe not a good example, was privately coarse and repulsive. I just hope that he can get past this.

  7. Thank you for this, Dip. Drudge has links up to various presidents, including Obama, using "colorful language." Trump's book "The Art of the Comeback," published in the 1990s, has a whole chapter on women that is similar and very racy, though the language is polite. Too bad this had to be on tape.

  9. The same critics who say nothing when Barry & Michelle welcome to the White House rap stars whose music(?) spotlights misogynistic and cop-hating lyrics are appalled at Trump's choice of a word? From an 11-year old private conversation?

This is utter hypocrisy from those who've underwritten and encouraged the boorish degradation of our culture & socially-acceptable behaviors: horrific rap lyrics; sexualized "twerking" by music stars (watched by our children); costumes, awards ceremony dresses, and the like that expose most of the female body; sex scenes in movies that used to be confined to adult movie places; etc.

Lord knows I'm no prude, but this uproar about Trump's language is laughable..., in a world where Iran is making nuclear weapons, China is taking possession of the SCS, Putin is making a laughingstock out of Obama's foreign policy (what foreign policy?), and we are [still] enmeshed in fighting in the Middle East.
Not to mention the domestic social and fiscal problems we face....

And where the other choice is a pathological liar.

  10. Trump is receiving the same treatment as Lech Walensa did in Poland from the communist press. Yes, we have a single-party state press and they issue regular five minute hate reports on their chosen enemy.

  11. "Banjo" Paterson: heh. My favourite attribution was this.

"Neither a borrower or a lender be" as the Good Book says.

As for Trump: we've learnt nothing new. It's always been obvious that he's a coarse fellow. He's electable - if he is - because his opponent is evil.

  12. Too rich From DATECHGUYBLOG: "There is also the whole business of Trump’s words vs the Clinton’s actions. . . . If we concede that Donald Trump’s character is bad, would it be better for the country to have a President of poor character who will be under intense scrutiny by the press, pols and law enforcement agencies (Trump) or to have a President of poor character who will be given a pass and or defended by the press, the pols and apparently the FBI regardless of what they say or do (Hillary)."

  13. Oh my dear Dip. I agree with most of your points but then you fall into the same trap that so many conservatives do.

    Never Apologize!

    Let me repeat.

    Never Apologize!

For Petey's sake, man. Why would you counsel an apology for a totally ginned up attempt at character assassination?

The only thing that apologizing ever gets you in these situations is the demand for yet further groveling. It never ends with forgiveness, because, after all, they Hate you.

In case you haven't read it, I would suggest you take a read of (the indescribably evil) Vox Day's book, SJWs always lie. It's a good refresher for manly men, and a reminder not to act like the Enemy.

  14. Regarding Trump's "locker-room" talk on this video, the words, actions, and insulting references to women pale in comparison to the average lyrics in a black rapper's so-called rap song. Also, Trump made no references or jokes about abusive or violent sexual encounters as is also common in rap music.

It seems that criticism of Trump for this video must be, at the very least, RAAAcist!!

  15. Worse than anything that Trump said is the public abandoning the ship of the RAT (Republicans Against Trump).

Having probably gnawed through the wire that set the fire, I suspect and truly hope that they will live to regret it.

And, I agree with never apologize. It probably had to be done, as it was to, the public. But, at the debate, there is no need to do it again.

  16. It's a simple choice:

Trump is vulgar, Clinton is an outright liar and criminal.

Your landmass (it can no longer be described as a country) is a disaster, no border, illegal voting, massive social costs of illegal use of government services-
Obama debt $9,000,000,000,000 and what has been improved?-nothing
Obamavilles (homeless camps appearing all over the country)
Populace spied upon every waking second by NSA
    Obamacare unaffordable therefore useless
    Black population in open insurrection
FBI IRS DoJ DoE DoS BLM all thoroughly compromised
Supreme Court now a social agency, has given up on law
    Libya,Tunisia,Egypt,Syria,Ukraine-examples of the Hillary doctrine

If that is what you would like more of, go ahead and be offended by talk of "pussy".

Any adult should be able to differentiate between criminality and stupidity, and vote accordingly.

  17. I think that the Democrats overplayed their hand, in respect to this October surprise. Trump has been demonized on women from day one. No doubt it is true that he is a "womanizer". It also is true that he treats fairly and doesn't harass the women he employs.

Since there has been a constant stream of negative coming from the left on women and Trump. The women that this recent release of "Guy talk" would cause to switch their votes is greatly diminished. Most women, pretty much already hate Trump, this release only serves to make them hate him more. Hillary is a women, and many women will go to the mat no matter how much corruption evidence comes out on Hillary, or how much more Bill Clinton's sexual predator nature gets relived. Their decision is already made.

  18. I was a life-long Republican, until I realized about 2 yrs. ago that the RINOs in Congress were never going to act on any of the many promises they made when seeking election: never going to impeach Obama, never going to repeal Obamacare, never going to cut off spending even for unConstitutional bills, etc. etc.

So I left the Republican Party and became Independent. I loathe and detest the GOPe liars who take their base for granted! I'd rather vote for a Democrat who is an "honest" thief, liar and sleaze- they don't even bother hiding it much, and their base doesn't care, they vote for anyone with a "D" after their name however many crimes they've committed.

Republicans are supposed to be the party with Principles; with Honor; with Integrity. No, they're just the same as the D's! They just lie about those sacred "conservative" "principles" that they're supposed to have. They consider themselves our Masters.

Then Donald Trump announced his candidacy. After I'd heard him speak I re-joined the crap Party I'd left in disgust, ONLY so that I could vote for Trump in the Primarys!

Since then I've heard every manner of attack, some open but others from concealment (like this one,) attempting to throw him off. Donald Trump has prevailed over each and every one, and will continue to do so! Lyin' Ryan and the other pussies in the RINO ranks of the GOPe can spit their dummys all they like, it won't stop Americans from taking back their country!

I'm no longer confused by the lying weasels in Congress- whether D's or R's, they're all part of the Uniparty Elites and they can all go to Hell. But I am extremely disgusted at those shrinking violets who pretend to have principles so they can re-join the Uniparty, and the supposedly "unbiased" (HA!) "news" media who support them and allow them to spread their lies.

We have so many items of importance to all of us, but those things are left undiscussed while old locker-room talk, that doesn't matter at all, is endlessly debated. How about Immigration? Islamic terrorism? H. Clinton's malfeasance in office? Not just breaking a little law here or there, but wholesale disregard of all law and custom? How about subversion of the DOJ, the FBI, the IRS... but no, let's talk about whether a guy said something bad over 10 years ago, when he was a private citizen and thought he was speaking privately, in what used to be a free country.

What a bunch of CRAP! I'm voting for Donald J. Trump, and anyone who isn't can go to HELL along with the RINO pussies in the GOPe!

  19. There's a long way between "crude guy talk" and Trump. "Crude guy talk" is "Yeah, I'd have sex with that. Hard." (Using more...colorful language of course.)
Trump is "I can do what I want in the sexual realm. 'Cuz I'm rich and powerful, and that makes people less inclined to say no." Kind of like Clinton that way, when you think about it.
