Just got through watching President Obama (unfortunately, my President) give a little press conference before heading off for Greece, Germany, and Peru. This will be (Hallelujah! and RIP to the great Leonard Cohen) Obama's last foreign trip as our President.
Perhaps it's possible for a person to be more narcissistic, more condescending, and more out of touch with reality than our President, but I have seen no evidence of that.
This presser should be studied by students of psychology all over the world. The man has no ability to recognize that he has led his political party, not to mention his nation and great parts of the world, into disaster. He and his legacy have just been roundly rejected at the polls, and the one candidate vowing to erase that legacy from the books and our lives is waiting in the wings to replace him.
Everything Obama touched during his presidency turned to muck, yet he cannot and will not recognize that. Instead he gives paternalistic advice to his successor, sticks a shiv into the already sore and broken ribs of his own party's candidate--giving her campaign advice and telling her how he did it--and presumes to give us all a smug lecture on the ways of the world. He is off to console the foreigners on their sadness over the election of Trump; he has only praise for the disgraceful Chancellor of Germany who is his main rival for the title of Most Destructive Western Leader; he . . . oh, never mind.
Watch his performance for yourselves and try not to vomit.

ReplyDeleteIt was breath-taking; and he has become almost a cartoon caricature of everything that is wrong with progressives. I am however impressed with one of his achievements; he has shown beyond rational argument that it is possible to occupy arguably the most significant position on the planet and still create a vacuum.

The TV is on Fox and President Clinton is lecturing the world from Athens on the success of his eight years in the White House. He is also lecturing the world on inclusion, and along with that, the threat of rising nationalism. But the bottom line is, he's trying desperately to salvage his legacy. "My vision's right," he insists.

And the poor Greek Prime Minister is left shrugging: is this a joint press conference or Obama's personal conference? Obama is grasping, in an unseemly fashion, at a place in history. Anyone want to bet whether he will be with us for a very long time, hectoring and sniping from the sidelines? Or will he follow W's gracious example, stepping quietly aside and letting his successor take the reins?
Fat chance.

To think that losing an election compares is lunacy. And pure cussed selfishness. And ignorance of the Constitution and this little thing called checks and balances. Oh they are so afraid. While our Constitution will make Trump a mad monarch an impossibility.
The idiots, if they want to be afraid of their government, take a look at the powers Congress handed off to the IRS, the EPA, the BLM and so on. Now there is a source of being a victim of one of those agencies trains their beady eyes on you.
I guess I'm guilty of 'crude nationalism'.... in that I feel America should have an identity distinct from Obama's 'global citizenship of tyrants and dictators'. His holier-than-thou-ness, Obama, himself, yes, The One, has deigned to give me advice on what is 'acceptable patriotism', and boy am I thankful (....that he's gone soon).

Harry Truman traveled abroad 3x in 8 years in office. One was a courtesy visit to Mexico. One was a courtesy visit to Canada (a trip that could have been made by car). One was the Potsdam Conference. We have all this communications technology and diplomats in every corner of the world, and he fancies he improves matters by carting FOUR planeloads of people and equipment to bore foreign heads of state with his yammer.
ReplyDeleteArt: Speaking of boring, if you get a chance to watch video of Obama and The Greek PM addressing the press this morning, it's worth a few minutes. Obama dominates the Q&A session, leaving the PM pretty much ignored. What space will be large enough for Obama's ego after January 20th?

When Obama first came to the UK at a joint press conference with the then Prime Minister it was he, Obama, who gestured they should leave the stage when it was finished as if he was the one in charge.
DeleteI heard later that where possible the PM refused to be photographed with Obama as the visitor had been taught all the gestures designed to show he was the one in charge, and not a guest of the host country.

DeleteI have watched hardly any TV in the last five years, and I actively avoid any of the halfrican's speeches, the few I saw in his early years were underwhelming and information-free, I could not stand the delivery pace and lispy tone. In short I found his speeches information-free (even his state of the union addresses)
ReplyDeleteI will take your word that his latest effort is truly terrible, it is a fitting end to a long nightmare of a presidency where so much has been expended to achieve a massive deterioration in the national fabric.
People used to mock Carter, have not heard much of that lately, Obama has pushed him off the worst president ever pedestal.
This afternoon I see even the NYT and the WaPo are out with articles about Obama's complete denial of reality. He truly is living in some sort of dreamland of his own making.

ReplyDeleteThe president of record, not Val Jarred, tried to rule by Exec Order rather than legislate into laws; had one actually been a Constitutional Scholar, it would be incumbent upon that incumbent to actually have bills passed into law; but being a lazy incompetent scholar of the American Experiment due to being a Marxist, the incompatibility of these two ideologies literally "left" the Democrats unable to govern within said Constitution. Obama will be viewed as a failure on so many levels, but his only experience in actual governance was the actual bad experience of failing to understand the Constitution.
