Sorry for the long break in blogging. We have made the move, internet is on, and I am loving North Carolina. Hope to start blogging ASAP, once all these pesky boxes disappear.
I have to say that throughout my long career in the Foreign Service and the many, many moves, I proved either the luckiest or unluckiest FSO. My stuff always arrived. Through pirate infested seas, bandit clogged ports and highways, hurricanes, etc., my stuff always showed up. I couldn't get rid of it! That streak continues. . . . sigh.
We had only one bad move: Vientiane to Blantyre. Severe water damage to HHE, and many items (mirrors, etc) stolen off car.
ReplyDeleteSuffered two major burglaries in the US: apartment was burglarized while I was in A-100 class and tools, camera and pistol taken, then when we had retired back to Ohio the house was ransacked and many items taken.
Glad for your smooth move! (Getting out of CA...)
ReplyDeleteHave been hoping for your insights re PDT's big Asian tour; there was so much that happened that appeared astounding and/or important.
Could you, would you still blog about the trip?

Welcome to the Tar Heel state. Just in time for ACC Basketball. It is very important for newcomers to NC to find your favorite team and start rooting for them.
ReplyDeleteGo Heels.
The Diplomad is a very intelligent man, therefore he will be a Wolfpack Man.
DeleteYou know it makes sense.
To quote a UNC fan at a UNC-State women's soccer game a while ago, he said as he sat down, "I just got one thing to say-'Go to hell, State.' "
DeleteAlso, while I was stationed at Pope AFB, Fayetteville, NC, my wing Director of Operations (the second ranking officer at the wing) had a bumper sticker on his staff truck (which was painted Carolina Blue) which said "Teach your child to hate State."
DeleteGlad you successfully escaped, and looking forward to your return to blogging.
ReplyDeleteOur last move was 17 years ago, we've still got boxes. I'm pretty sure we don't need what's in them.
Call the American Pickers ...
DeleteGlad to hear of your successful escape and move. Always a stressful operation. Time now for new roots to be put down, good luck and enjoy your blog sir!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new home in a free state. You'll catch yourself asking, "I'm allowed to do that here?".
ReplyDeleteYou are going to love NC. And I am sure you meant pirate, not private. Auto-correct strikes again, maybe?
ReplyDeletenot that there isn’t enough in current events for you to blog about but i am curious as to your decision-making process that led you from ca to nc. not why you left ca but how you came to choose nc, what other places you considered, how you found a sympatico locale and realtor, dos and don’ts, etc. i retired and returned stateside after spending my entire career overseas to parent care duties, which are largely done so im now embarking on the same quest.
ReplyDeleteWere there pirates sailing those "private infested seas"??
ReplyDeleteHangtown Bob
Probably privateers.
DeleteThat's awful. Report for flogging at morning 5 bells.
DeleteBluebeard the spellchecker?
DeleteWhen we left Australia we sold a lot, and packed everything we really wanted to keep into our trunk and our suitcases. Except for a beautiful 19th century blackwood dining table: we miss it still.
ReplyDeleteI thought a lot about Australia. I had friends there.
DeleteJust too far. My kids are mad at me for moving to Arizona.
I sick and tired of these lame excuses! Come'on man i need my Diplofix, if not daily then every other.
