Other than the ChiCom Virus, What?

OK, folks. Here I go again.

I will try to write about something other than the ChiCom virus and the disastrous global response to it based on the disastrous advice from disastrous "experts" and their disastrous models. I won't mention, either, the glee with which many lefties and their media mouthpieces have greeted the economic shutdown and how they resist ending it. I won't mention how the death tolls are padded and "infection rates" exploited, to wit, making them sound like "death rates," to keep us all cowering and crying for more government control over our lives. I won't mention, again, my long-standing warning that whenever the media and the political class seize a complex social or scientific issue, make slogans, foster activists, and create government programs to deal with the "issue" which now has become a "problem" . . . well, then, you better have the BS meter charged, tuned, and ready to go: that BS meter is sounding loud and clear right now--but I won't mention that, nope, not at all.

Well, let's neither talk about nor even mention the disaster produced by the exaggerated response to the ChiCom virus, e.g., the ventilator and hospital bed crises that never were. No. Let's talk about some other disasters.

Over three years ago, this humble blog labelled the Putin-Trump collusion story a hoax made up by the Democrats (here). Those of us who doubted the story proved right; all those prancing and preening commentators and politicos, e.g., Adam Schiff, who promoted it year after year proved not only wrong, but disastrously wrong. In fact, many of them knew it was a lie but, regardless, charged ahead with the "investigation." We now know that almost from the start of the story, the FBI leadership knew that Putin-Trump collusion did not exist; the FBI also knew that the info in the infamous Steele dossier, upon which 99.9% of the story rested, came from a Russian disinformation operation in conjunction with paid-for DNC fabrications. We know that the FBI lied to the FISA courts and got warrants based on this fake story. We also now know of a concerted plot to frame and nail National Security Advisor Lt. General Flynn, including the use of KGB-style tactics of threatening his family to push him into a guilty plea. The FBI agents and their supervisors knew that Flynn had not colluded with the Russians but decided to try to destroy the man as part of a larger plot to remove Trump from the White House.

This was a coup attempt, as this humble blog noted long ago (here).

Now, as this little and inconsequential blog also has long noted, leftist politics are all about the BIG LIE. The BIGGER the BETTER.

Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, Mao, and all the other leftist murderers, murderer-enablers, and haters of democracy and individual freedoms and rights who have appeared on the scene since, at least, the French Revolution, have relied on the massive lie. We have seen many such lies. In recent times, of course, one of the biggest, if not the biggest, is the man-made global climate change hoax. Once again, we see political activists parading as "experts," producing models that predict impending gloom and doom--and, prove wrong, wrong, wrong. That doesn't matter; the object is not to prove right, but to gain power over our lives using, once again, fear as a weapon. At that, the global climate change hoaxsters have proven very adept.

Another one of the great hoaxes has been the #MeToo (MT) movement. As with its big brother, global climate change, it starts with a legitimate concern--pollution in one case, sexual abuse in the other--and morphs into a political/social movement aimed at expanding governmental power over our lives, yes, once again, we see the drive for power. If we didn't need a reminder of the political motivations behind MT we have to look only at how its most ardent practitioners have treated Bill Clinton and Joe Biden; compare that to how we have seen them treat Justice Kavanaugh and, earlier, Justice Thomas with the lynch mob back then led by no less than then-Senator Joe Biden.  Couldn't make this stuff up . . .

To use the very words of the left in the Kavanaugh case, we have "credible" accusations that Senator Biden engaged in a sexual assault against a staffer, Tara Reade. This was not just some rude behavior; this appears to have been a full-on assault. There are reports from the era, unlike the Kavanaugh story. Biden has gotten a pass from most of the commentariat with only a soft-ball interview today, five weeks after the story broke. Is Reade telling the truth? I don't know. To use the standards of the left, we need to investigate, and not let Biden put limits on where the investigators can search. Believe all women, Joe! And, of course, that ol' rape-enabler Hillary Clinton has jumped in to endorse Biden. How does she have any credibility on sex assault issues?

OK. Getting ready to go off to a "gender reveal" party at my son's home in Raleigh. Apparently the child, in this case, at least, does not get to pick his/her/its gender. My son is a brutal dictator!

  1. Putin and Trump are very different people, yet they share a very important characteristic -- they are both patriots, each trying to do the best for his native land. Had it not been for the Democrats' false charges, repeated long past the point of boredom by the other Democrats (the media), there could have been some sort of quiet understanding between Putin & Trump about their common problem -- China. But the Democrats' false accusations made sure that did not happen. Advantage China!

If one happened to be of a suspicious disposition, it is strange that the Democrats' dishonest focus on Russia was so beneficial to China. Nice Rolex you have there, Senator.

China is rapidly approaching parity with the US on all three of those.
I suspect they're still entirely inwardly focused... exploiting the foreign world exclusively for the purposes of maintaining power internally. The CPC is still focused on the failings of the Qing dynasty and how China 'became a 3rd rate power'. Truth is, they only 'became' a third rate power when contact between east and west established that they *were already* a third-rate power.

I suspect they have a long way to go in that status, but that doesn't mean it's going to be a quiet or peaceful wait.

Yes 1482, and then the Leftist POLs mostly proceeded to pump-up the PLA paradise after our HARD FOUGHT attrition of the communist bastages from S.Korea North to the Frozen Chosin! Now, we get to contend with this modern mess the Socialists have created for the entire civilized world! So far we owe the Mao-Maos at minimum, a decade of Ass whuppin, on Land Sea Air & Space, to include a Dynastic Pandemic, lasting till all they've got left to chew on are Bats, Rats, and freeze-dried parts of their communist brethren! I fully agree that a Communist China is a threat. It is the last, best hope for 20th century totalitarianism--and I would not put it past Xi and crew to have deliberately unleashed COVID19 in attempt at a global-wide coup to make themselves #1.

But the presence of a home-grown Leftism in our own country should frst and foremost be a warning that it can happen here. Marx was the opiate of the "innaleckchools" of the interwar era in both China and the West; and so remains for the West.

Prescription: Keep our rights of free exercise of religion and free speech strong.

    6. I suspect the most likely purpose for which the CPC would have unleashed such a thing, assuming they did deliberately, would be to cover for a massive economic scandal. Those trade tariffs *must* have been hurting, yet the economic numbers out of China continued to show no significant impact. This kind of global distraction would be quite an opportunity to sweep out some terrible investment losses without attracting the attention of those who manage large sums of money.
      I'm thinking many trillions.

That said, all the indications are that we have under-counted deaths from COVID19, as opposed to over-counting them. You also seem to have overlooked that the information in the Steele dossier was largely verified to be true. What's really amusing is the notion of the notoriously right-wing FBI participating in some sort of left-wing coup. Hoover might have you surveilled for that, were he still alive.

If the entirety of the concerned that one web company, you would have a strong point here, JK. Of course, since the company only occupied a small amount of the dossier, small amounts of unverified information is practically required by the description "largely verified". Perhaps you misunderstood what "largely" means in that sentence?

    9. Thankee Kindly OneBrow for that link from 2018.

A very crucial component the dossier made much of was the bit about those 13 Russians indicted by SC Mueller no? And 2) that Trump "conspired with Putin"? I mean that really was the basis for Perkins Coie hiring Steele in the first place wasn't it [though it wasn't until IG Horowitz appeared before Congress - post Mueller Report - we learned the Clinton Campaign in cahoots with the DNC used the DC lawfirm Perkins Coie as a cutout to put Steele on the payroll but that's one of the problems arising from a 2018 link to thus "largely verify" stuff that what wasn't then known) ... At any rate OneBrow here's the actual indictment [thanks to your Lawfare link for reminding me how we got here]

      https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5021502/Indictment-as-to-Viktor-Borisovich-Netyksho-Et-Al.pdf

Another "largish" component of Steele's dossier was its allegation (2) that Trump and Vlad were to turn a phrase 'bosom buddies'?

Well let us turn to Snopes to check that claim shall we?

      https://www.snopes.com/ap/2019/03/24/doj-trump-campaign-did-not-coordinate-with-russia-in-2016/

Okay I suppose OneBrow that just because Mueller couldn't corroborate or, as I like to say "largely verify" any of Team Trump was conspiring with Putin at least that bit about those 13 Russians what got indicted - that part at least stayed "largely verified"?

Oh wait - that Snopes link is only a year past your 2018 link so I guess we ought come past 2019 and see what's remained "largely verified" since shant we not?

      Here's Dan Abrams:

"And after all of that, the Russian troll farm’s American lawyers have the last laugh? Along the way of this prosecution there have been some seriously bizarre moments."

But thanks for the link anyway OneBrow - makes my 'investing the time' much easier.

      JK

Uh oh "largely verified" appears to not be doing so hot but I expect you can go right ahead insisting it nevertheless.

      Delete
    10. JK,

I'm not aware of anything in the Steele dossier that claims Trump personally conspired with the Russians regarding election interference. Could you quote that part of it? If you like, here's a summary:

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steele_dossier#Allegations

Now, if you mean that the Russian propaganda machine acted to support Trump's election, that's been demonstrated over and over again, but I see to no reason to say Trump himself was aware of it. As for Trump's team, Mueller's report was clear that some only avoided indictment through incompetence or ignorance. Just the publicly known, acknowledged meeting of Don Jr. with Russian representatives in Trump tower was collusion.

As for Trump and Putin being "bosom buddies", Trump's own words on Putin say more than I ever could.

  7. Perhaps we blame the Dems too much and the bigger problem is the FBI and the laws and "process" that empower it to cow politicians, courts, and presidents. Our system is so twisted now that one book I read claims the average citizen unknowingly commits three felonies a day! So the FBI can say, as the KGB did, that if you show them the man, they'll show you the crime. This has got to stop.

Yes the USA has become an opportune target of the Left, especially over the last 50 years or so - by the voter empowered Democrat machine. Happily though it appears that a re-awakening is underway, thanks to our most recently elected POTUS. One more term with The Donald at the helm, should be all that's needed to rouse the most muddle- minded American citizens. Followed by 4 more years, and 4 more years of Mike Pence, and then Ron DeSantis, should make the Democrat nightmares just a bad dream, based on BULLSHIT amplified by the Leftist yellow journalism!

Anon's not too far out with the assertion. (Though as I'd point out 'alot' of the "3 felonies a day" came about due to the regulatory bureaucratic state - the swamp might be a better descriptor.) And yes actually there is a book bearing that title:

      https://www.amazon.com/Three-Felonies-Day-Target-Innocent/dp/1594035229

One of my law professor friends sketched out for me what the basics of the process was - up to about 1970 the whole of the US Code (leaving aside for our present purposes the numerous states laws and regulations that've contributed) Anyway the whole of the US Code could until about the inaugural of Goober Carter (with a not insignificant further contribution from Clinton's Criminal Omnibus Bill) Anyway again, the whole of the US Code could be contained in a fairly moderately sized law library. In actual books no less.

First Nixon creates the EPA then here comes Goober, a pause up until after GHWB then along comes Clinton who, along with his aforesaid Omnibus Bill the Regulatory Agencies gets their mule-pulled law-making plows upgraded to rocket engines. Then GWB comes along and passes 'The Patriot Act' and to go along with that creates the monstrosity we now know as The Department of Homeland Security.

      Then Obama gets elected. Twice.

While not an attorney myself I've found I need it for keeping my butt outta trouble when attorneys sometimes hire my services. Goes to some 14,268 separate and distinct pageviews. As compared to when it was last compiled onto actual paper the pages numbered 710. And that was 1981.

I don't find myself needing to read much caselaw but I'm given to understand that runs roughly quadruple of this most recent [2018] statutes compilation.

Fortunately Arkansas' party majority affiliation went Republican (Our entire DC delegation entirely Republican) in 2010 and, perhaps not in-coincidentally, making "new law" has dramatically decreased since.
