Progressives and Bathrooms

About a year ago, I wrote
[P]rogressivism is about generating uncertainty, about keeping society off balance. It is about disrupting long-established institutions and practices; it is about tearing down that which is, with no real formula for what will follow except to put progressives in positions of power to dictate to us all as the whim comes and goes.

Progressivism is motivated by a deep hatred for Western civilization.
We'll get back to those observations, but I also want to draw attention to another post written at the time of the Rebel flag uproar. I noted that progressives demanded that the Rebel battle flag be taken down everywhere it flies because it incites racism and gun violence; I observed that the flag was not the real target of progressive wrath anymore than was gun violence,
The real target is attacking white male culture, especially the hated "Redneck" culture, which progressives cannot stand. The real target is trying to stigmatize white males and cowing them into politically correct submission . . . in the Hollywood movie that runs in an endless loop inside the heads of progressives, white males, especially in the South, are all Rebel flag-waving, pick-up driving, gun maniac racists just dying to kill black men and rape black women.
One more citation from the archives of the Diplomad: a little piece from 2014 that dealt with the CDC's study on lesbian, gay, bi-and transsexual persons in the USA, and pointed out that,
the CDC has put out a thorough report which notes that only 2.3% of Americans identify themselves as either gay, lesbian, or bisexual. About 1.6% of the population identifies itself as either gay or lesbian, what used to be called homosexual.
There are other studies that support the CDC findings, and show the number of transgender persons in the US at somewhere between 0.2% and 0.3% of the population.

OK, so bathrooms.

We have courts, mayors, rock stars, Hollywood, governors, pundits, and, of course, the President of the United States weighing in on whether schools and other institutions and even businesses should "segregate" on the basis of gender when it comes to bathroom facilities. The President's minions sent a letter to public schools in which his administration provided "guidance" to schools (full text here) letting them know that they have to respect the concept of "transgender," as now redefined,
o Gender identity refers to an individual’s internal sense of gender. A person’s gender identity may be different from or the same as the person’s sex assigned at birth.

o Sex assigned at birth refers to the sex designation recorded on an infant’s birth certificate should such a record be provided at birth.

o Transgender describes those individuals whose gender identity is different from the sex they were assigned at birth. A transgender male is someone who identifies as male but was assigned the sex of female at birth; a transgender female is someone who identifies as female but was assigned the sex of male at birth.
This barely readable mishmash of ideology, legalism, and faux science goes on to give "guidance" to schools on how they should treat "transgender" individuals. Schools must respect those persons' choice of gender, and allow them access to sports programs and, of course, bathrooms and showers designated for that gender. The threat is clear: comply or lose federal funding.

Here we see all the themes laid out at the beginning. Our progressive overlords are creating an atmosphere of uncertainty, and turmoil, and all the while not giving a damn about the 0.2-0.3% of the population that is "genuinely transgender." As so many times before, the plan is to throw society off-balance, disrupt long-established, even ancient social norms, destroy well-established definitions, undermine the very idea of common sense, and do it all in the name of addressing a problem which does not exist on "behalf" of an infinitesimally small piece of the population. The real goal, of course, being to draw increased power to the progressive controlled government bureaucracy and courts, and use that power to control us little people in everything we do, including, now, going to the restroom.

A few suggestions. Parents should insist that their schools resist this "guidance." Losing federal funding for schools is a blessing, not even in disguise. I would love to see a revolt of parents and others telling the feds to keep their funds and their controls to themselves. Make the teachers' unions and the vast array of overpaid administrators eat the deficit. Defeat at the polls any and all politicians who do not resist this incredible overreach of federal authority.

The madness must stop.

  3. Ok, so what happens to title IX when people who were born with a Willy but "identify as female", proceed outperform the girls (by birth) at basketball tryouts for the girls team and displace the actual girls on the roster?

    1. The Progressive responds: "Nobody will do that.. it's never been a problem before... it's not going to happen."
Of course it hasn't, there's been some social stigma of sorts maintaining cultural cohesion... but we're *removing* that, so *of course* it will happen.

Yes, all *female* sports will involve beards soon.
      So much for 'Equality'.

  4. I agree with you about the policy makers, but I think the average Joe that is supporting this nonsense honestly thinks they being "compassionate" and that those against are "hateful". It's a way to grab virtue without any personal cost (they think).

  6. Follow this a bit further.

Self identification is the key. Whatever one self identifies as MUST be recognized, it appears, according to the US government (in the guise of the Department of Miseducation. This means, for the moment, that some States and all institutions of higher learning must accommodate individuals according to their self-identification.

Well now. For the past year and more I've identified as a minor god in the tradition of Bacchus. It is unseemly that airlines don't immediately upgrade me and provide free beverages. When will the FAA address this clear infraction of the Maladministrations' clear intent!

  7. If states like Texas lose their federal funding because they reject this mandate, they should feel free to reject all of the DOE mandates, which would reduce the cost of running their schools dramatically.

    1. But that's part of the game... give more 'free money'... add more 'control'... by this point, state/local education may have become so addicted to the funds that they simply can't 'afford' to stop.
Or more likely, the districts/schools of the *poor* people will be too hooked to stop. The rich folks supplement with parcel taxes when crap like this is rolling downhill.

  9. Also, from my blog I suggest the following: In their first debate Trump should say that he is feeling like a woman today and, during their commercial breaks, he intends to use the same restroom as Hellery. Wouldn't that be a hoot?

    1. She would probably take him by the hand and say "let's go". You've seen how women often set out for the ladies room as a group effort and nobody knows who had the idea first. There is a mass rising and a departure. Trump can go right along as he "feels" like one of the women at that moment.

  10. Maybe one way to respond to the madness is to beat them at their own game. A school district might, for example, issue a guidance memo to all its schools and note that while the feds are mandating that a boy be allowed to use the girls' bath facilities, each teacher is required to respect the choice of all girls not to share those facilities with someone that makes them feel "unsafe." So flip the narrative on its head and shove the "safe space" madness down their throats. The schools create a "safe space" for normal girls. The confused boy can use the girls' facilities in peace and solitude. This forces the Feds (and their minions) to demand something that no one would see as compassionate or tolerable. It is one thing to demand that a confused gender boy be allowed to use a girls' bathroom and showers, but it is entirely different to demand that girls use them at the same time.

    2. The Marxists have been whining about "alienation" ever since Old Uncle Karl decided he would loose a great black fart of rage at a world that didn't immediately take him for the wonder he thought he was. Now, it seems, Karl's heirs are encouraging us to be alienated from our own chromosomes.

  12. The Obama cabal has shot women’s sports in the head. Any males that can’t quite make the cut in men’s programs now only have to self-identify as a gurl and will have to be provided a spot on the women’s team. Outside of Hollywood an average 16+y.o. male is bigger, stronger, faster, and more coordinated than 98% of the female population (the top 5% of boys will out play all females). Want to play basketball for a university on full scholarship, identify as female and defy administration to justify denial. The DOE, by its own rules doesn’t require you to dress, behave, or attempt to physically be female, only to identify as such. Within a decade women’s sports will exist in name only.

  13. I once played hockey - field hockey you chaps call it - against a women's team. We had two or three hockey players in our side who explained the rules and gave us five minutes of instruction; the rest of us were rugby or soccer players. We slaughtered the lassies. The disparity in strength and speed utterly outweighed their far greater skill and nous. No contest. The only advantage of the whole farrago was that we taught them the fine old rugby habit of all having a beer together afterwards.

    2. When my son was 14, he played ice hockey and his team of like 14 year olds played an exhibition game against Canada's female Olympic Team, the same team that went on to win the Olympic Silver Medal a few months later in Nagano, Japan.. The game was played under the girls rules (no body checking). The final score was 11-1 for the boys and their coach instructed them to not score in the last 10 minutes of the game. It was pretty shocking.

  14. "Our progressive overlords are creating an atmosphere of uncertainty, and turmoil ..." Well, yes, but to what end? These people are crazy mad control freaks, they have an end in mind. The pattern fits Yuri Bezmemov's four stages of cultural warfare: 1. Demoralization; 2. Destabilization; 3. Crisis; 4. Normalization. Seems to me that we've been in the Demoralization phase forever, and that we are briskly moving through Destabilization and into Crisis.

Certainly parents should raise holy, smoking hell about this, as they should have raised holy, smoking hell about so many other issues before now, but didn't. And, having been conditioned, won't now either. Betcha.

  16. California now has mandatory sex ed with no opt-out starting in the seventh grade. As of this last January 1st, it will include homosexuality and gender theory. If anyone in my hopefully-doomed state objects, it has been dutifully hushed up in the media. You will Google in vain for outraged parents at PTA meetings, or lawsuits, or boycotts. To all external appearances, the parents on the left coast have gone numb.

The problem is not merely an overbearing federal government. Our cultural problems run a little deeper.
