Is There No End to the Progressive Insanity?

As we denizens of the northern hemisphere head into the darkest days of the year (Curse you sunny Australia!), we find that the progressive insanity intensifies: It goes on and on. Not since the heyday of the communists and their soul mates, the nazis, have we seen such a concerted assault on democracy and the free expression of opinions and will.

Here in our now very bedraggled and beleaguered US of A, the electoral results of November 8 have launched the progressive elites into far outer space; blood and brain deprived of oxygen in the vacuum, they writhe, thrash and smash. I have written several pieces about this progressive phenomenon, but allow me to dwell just a little more on the subject. I find it fascinating.

The progs whom I know, and, of course, the prog-run media and the hordes of prog politicos, entertainers, pundits, and other members of the prog-dominated chattering class, had assumed, nay, incorporated into their very being the belief that Donald Trump would never get elected President. He was just a humoruos buffoon who had nothing to say to America, not anything of any value, that is. The American electorate would follow the lead and exhortations of their betters and reject the "orange monster."

Hillary Clinton, the progs anointed champion in this go-round, therefore, ran an arrogant, aloof, lazy, almost lackadaisical campaign, that ignored certain realities, e.g., the electoral college, the growing anger in the country, and just assumed that the same crowd who voted in Obama would do so again--and this time, extra bonus points, the progressive candidate had a vagina! The progs tried to laugh off and ignore Clinton's serious crimes, lack of ethics, and long track record of producing nothing except wealth for herself. Her lack of a message to the voters was ignored as irrelevant since "everybody knew" what Hillary stood for, and besides, look at whom she was running against (snort, chuckle). She trotted out the tired prog cliches, showing no particular enthusiasm for them, and made only the bare minimum of public appearances before markedly unenthusiastic gatherings. She seemed to show enthusiasm and energy only when appearing before elite gatherings of wealthy Hollywood donors where she spoke of Trump's supporters as "deplorables" and "irredeemables." Then the night of November 8 rolled around. The cocky arrogance, the DNC directed violence at Trump rallies, the dominance of the media, the expenditure of over $1.2 billion, the slick adverts, and the massive popular vote electoral fraud could not produce a win. Trump was elected, and elected the old fashioned way: hard work, targeting the areas most affected by the insanity of the Obama years, and--horrors!--by actually listening to the concerns of voters.

For many of us, the images of Hillary supporters melting down in tears and wails proved priceless. Then the fury began anew. First, the demands for recounts in three states critical for Trump's win. That quickly fell apart as the recounts showed Trump GAINING votes and began to reveal the extent of the Democrats electoral fraud in places such as Detroit, calling into question one of Hillary's proud claims that, at least, she had won the popular vote. Then, suddenly, the Democrats became interested in the Constitution, Alexander Hamilton, The Federalist Papers, and the electoral college. With the complicity of a compliant mainstream media, they launched an absurd campaign to get 37 electors of the electoral college (out of Trump's 306 electors) to "vote their conscience," deny Trump the needed 270 votes, and, therefore, reject Trump as president. We had paraded before us an elector from Texas who gained fifteen minutes of fame by claiming that he knew of "at least" 20 other Republican electors ready to dump Trump and throw the election to Congress. The progs tried to sway the electors with violence, appeals to their patriotism and deep devotion to the Constitution. They wheeled out the usual tired Hollywood celebrities and "passionate" activists, whom the voters on November 8 already had rejected. These new patriots suddenly became incensed over alleged Russian efforts to influence our election! Mexico's efforts? Not so much . . . In the end, the "at least" 20 ready to reject Trump turned out to be two, and--Oh, endless joy!--FIVE electors previously pledged to Clinton jumped ship and voted for Colin Powell, Bernie Sanders, and--my favorite--Faith Spotted Eagle. It seems another two or three would have joined the defection from Hillary except that their state laws did not allow them. Not yet resigned to defeat, progs in Congress now talk about drafting legislation to ensure Trump's impeachment on day one if he doesn't divest himself of all his business interests . . . yawn.

I am sure on January 20 they will seek to disrupt the inauguration with their usual crowd of flag-burning, white-male-hating misfits. Our battle against our progs will be a long one.

Overseas, we see, yet again, another disaster produced by progressivism and its Molotov-Ribbentrop pact with Islam.

In Germany, governed by Angela Merkel, who competes with Obama and Trudeau for the gold medal as the stupidest Western politician, we have seen another slaughter of innocents by--ready for it?--a Muslim asylum seeker, this time apparently from Tunisia. He, it seems, murdered a Polish truck driver, seized his truck, and headed for a Berlin open-air Christmas market packed with happy shoppers. He slammed the truck into the crowd killing about a dozen people, adding yet another dozen names to the list of Westerners killed by Islam and its useful idiot enablers in the West. I hope the Germans get furious and end Merkel's destructive political career before she and her like end what remains of Europe.

In Turkey, of course, we have seen the assassination of the Russian ambassador. For some reason I doubt that either Putin or Lavrov will shrug and say, "What difference does it make?" I am sure Putin will find time from "faking" Podesta and Brazile emails to ensure that somebody is going to feel a world of hurt. The PC culture does not survive in Moscow.

Yes, the days up north are getting shorter, but soon that will change, and I can only hope that Trump is as bad as the progressives make him out to be and our political darkness also begins to lift.

This might be our last chance.

  1. There are many after-the-fact comments from all variety of political pundits about why Hillary lost; some are saying that she didn't pay enough attention to the rural voters, some say it was the message. I say it was neither; instead, look at the volume of Republicans voted into office. As I see it, an unpaid critic and one of the overlooked flyover citizens, it was a combination of the (1) values, morals and ethics of the person and party she represented and (2) unconstitutional attitude and direction they want to take us. While I don't think that all "Democrats" are inherently bad, too many (if not most) of our elected "Democrats" are not, but are actually Socialists if not Communists. And where the ends justify the means, they will stop at nothing--lying, cheating, subverting justice, murder--to get their way.

  2. Yeah, what Anonymous said. The simplest explanation, that, collectively, a large number of citizens, perhaps even a majority, would not elect another lying sack of Obama. It was a realo purple finger moment. I hope that we can live up to those brave Iraqis' opinion of us.

  3. One of your best postings since you told us all to turn on our air conditioners and open our windows to defeat global warming. You are right on about the dhimocrapt failings. However, I do think that much of their failures came from the communist ideas of changing to their system quickly. Not only did they try to change America for the worse, but they telegraphed their intentions by trying to impose their demands too quickly, and on a population who are not in sync with their ideas.

  4. What? No comment on how Trump's election caused it to snow in the Sahara, and thus is proof that the Electoral College causes Global Warming/Climate Change?

Hillary lost because faithless CIA operatives used that agency's mind control satellite on middle America! Everyone knows that.

    1. DM, I think you can understand that prosecuting a losing candidate, even one as vile and corrupt as Hillary, leaves a bad taste in our mouths. A Third World taste. Yes, I realize that she and Bill ran Arkansas like a tin pot Third World banana republic for a couple of decades, but, we don't want to sink to her level. IF we had honest media, there would be enough muck raked to get even the most time-serving prosecutor off the dime, but that is a huge IF. I can not tell you how loudly and long people hooted when she showed up in an orange pant suit. It's as closely associated in the American mind with prisons as, say, mail bags would be to you. However, it might be a good thing for our body politic to make sure that the prospects were always hovering nearby, just in case they tried to make Chelsea the Crown Princess.

OTOH, there is serious doubt that she'd live out a protracted court trial. That is a quiet sort of comfort to us.

In case you don't hear from me before then, a wonderful and Holy Christmas to Dearie Me and all the little Me's, too.

    2. Anonymous, you are correct. Prosecuting a loosing candidate or the predecessor is a bad idea because the incentive to not loose gets strong enough to lead to all sorts of extreme measures.

What we've seen from the left on losing to Trump is really minor league BS. Not really serious except to keep their base contributing $$. Which $$ are the point really. Look at the surplus generated by the supposed 3 state recount.

    5. I think that I have said this before on this site, but ... I strongly think ALL the Clinton crime family should face justice. Then, when all the dirty linen is wafting in the breeze and convictions are handed down, Trump should pardon Hellary ONLY ... not even Bill. I would also like to have Obummer face impeachment ... even though out of office ... with a bill of particulars drawn up in the House. But no Senate trial. All this to keep these scoundrels from writing their own glowing histories.

  6. There is an end to it. Unfortunately, it will be when no American is out of hearing reach of a muezzin in his minaret.
The enemy will not stop short of this, and America's cultural response (raising kids to take after Pajama Boy) will make it happen.

    1. There is another way to avert your scenario. USA can go for maximum cheap energy use your oil,gas and coal. Produce it in vast quantities and sell it to the West as cheap as you can. Then see the change in the world. The Middle East oil states will sink back into the sand. Russia will not be able to offer very much trouble as it's economy is no bigger than Italy and in the same dire straits.
With your massive amount of cheap energy production will flow back to the USA.

    2. It's the US that's the source of death and destruction around the world with our asinine nation building and supposed desire to spread "democracy." Obama's real objective has been to empower the MB and debase himself and the nation at every turn.

If Russia grabbed the Baltic States, Crimea, and S. Ossetia - a big "if" indeed - it would increase the land area of the RF by a mind-boggling 1.2%. Putin's supposed hungry eyeing of these juicy prizes is sold as evidence of Russia's expansionism, I kid you not thank you very much. Keane, Peters, and McFarland and other cretins are trotted out by the fair and balanced folks to sound the alarm against Stalin's secret son. Trained seals to further the Fox anti-Russian agenda.

  7. Hey, it's not sunny here, it's 28 degrees C and cloudy! In fact we are having a cold summer and have had only a dozen days over thirty this spring and summer.

All I can say is that thank God you guys elected Trump. Already we are seeing the Chinese growing thoughtful and some sanity starting to return as the transnational progressives flail about in chaos and sweet, sweet despair.

Now, if we can only get rid of our own conservatives in name only out here.

  8. "Her lack of a message to the voters was ignored as irrelevant since 'everybody knew' what Hillary stood for..."

That's why she lost, because so many people who knew what she stood for despised what she stood for.

  9. I explained to some of my sister's academic friends (who were actually interested and polite and didn't call me names!) that after 8 years of a Dem admin in DC, and 6 years of Dem admin and legislature in Hartford, when almost everyone I know is under-, or worse un-, employed, having a candidate whose platform was "More of the Same! But Better! With Vagina!" really didn't speak to us. And anyone with an actual brain should have realized that it wouldn't.

Of course I live in Connecticut, where everyone bitches about how Hartford and DC ignore us, and then they insist on sending the same folks (or new folks with the same letter after their name and the same campaign) back there. /sigh

  10. Nice summary; as usual.

Even though great strides have been made this year pushing back against the progs; the fury of their response to Trump and Brexit, and the ease with which they would jettison democracy to get their own way, is pretty frightening. It is quite a short step from where these people are today to something much worse for conservatives when the pendulum swings back, which it eventually must.

  11. Yes, a charming reprise ... but the worm in the apple is that, even assuming millions of fraudulent votes, that crone still garnered the support of enough unthinking voters to call it a popular draw. Therefore the dark side will not roll over and Trump, if he survives, still has the daunting task to sweep the scales from the eyes of many of our progressive zombies. But he will only do so by transforming our educational, legal, business, media and entertainment institutions ... no small feat. We have not really won yet ... not by a very long shot,

  12. Thank you for the insightful as always (if depressing) summary of the past week.
I wanted to ask you a question on the assassination based on your diplomatic experience. Is it normal to have an ambassador give a public speech without his own security present, particularly in what I must imagine would be considered a high risk posting for a Russian ambassador? Does the host nation always handle the security? It just seems like such an odd incident, even ignoring all the conspiracy theories.

Thanks, and hope you have a Merry Christmas.

    1. In most countries, especially those with "problems," our Ambassadors have their own security which is a mix of US and vetted local personnel. This guy seemed to have been a guard for Erdogan so I assume he was trusted.

  13. The whole aftermath of the election has convinced me that it is time to dump the "Electoral College" - not the allocation of voting power, but the use of electors. Imagine the intimidation (even death threats) we saw this year mulitplied by a hundred in a very close election (say something similar to what happened in 2000). I could imagine eight (or even nine) figure bribes^H^H^H^H^H^H disguised payments for a critical elector to change his or her mind.

I have seen enough this year. The SoS of each state should simply transmit to the House their allocation of Electoral votes, thus removing one more ring from the election circus.

  14. So many reasons Hillary lost, but I think the one that was most critical to ordinary voters was that she had absolutely no message.

Ask anyone who was paying attention (and most of the people who weren't) three things that Donald Trump promised to do during the campaign, and most could answer that easily:

    1. Build the wall
    2. Repeal Obamacare
    3. Renegotiate trade deals

Ask anyone to name three Hillary promises, and I bet most would fail. In fact I (and I follow politics as closely as anyone on this blog) have to struggle to get to three:

    1. Legalize people illegally in the United States (though this was vague, and not so forcefully stated)
    2. Free college tuition (again more of a plan than a hard core promise)
    3. Increase taxes (only on the wealthy, of course :) ) - something that is never popular

Aside from all of her other (enormous and numerous) flaws, she just never gave people a reason to elect her (other than identity politics, of course).

I have a sister who is as much of a far left wacko as you will ever see. The election of Trump absolutely horrified her (and she could repeat with conviction every negative statement you have ever heard about Donald Trump),... BUT, she absolutely can't stand Hillary (the corruption, of course, but mostly because my sister considers Hillary a war-monger who sees the military as the solution to every international problem), and is very angry at people who voted for Hillary just because she is a woman. At least my sister and I can agree on that. :)

  17. Looks like Putin has finally chimed in on the Electoral aftermath...telling the Democrats they need to "Learn to lose with dignity."
Something tells me that 2 serious men each with a love for their respective countries, will be able to find the mutual respect and, if not trust, at least benefit to have a civil adult dialogue on the real problems in the world.
And Putin will never again have to suffer the indignity and childish grandstanding of the ridiculous reset button.
