This humble blog has called it right a few times--just a few, we did think Romney was going to win but . . . well, a stopped clock is wrong most of the time or whatever that saying is . . . Please note that the writings herein on race, national identity, and immigration were written years ago, and now the political system is taking up the debate much along the lines laid out back then (Look in the Diplomad archives and you will see). We, for example, now see the world's media and diplomatic bien pensants engaged in a great debate about the remarks President Trump supposedly made along the lines of "why do we get so many immigrants from sh*thole countries?" Did he or didn't he say it? Not clear. White House denials have been, in my view, masterfully evasive almost as though if he didn't say it, he would like credit for having said it but yet maintain plausible deniability that he did. The progs and many international capitals have taken the bait, and now thrash furiously on yet another Trump hook. Wheels within wheels with this President; we should not forget that this indeed is a president who plays 4-D chess; he has an amazing ability, an unparalleled ability, to troll the progs, make them explode in outrage and, thereby, reveal the slimy hypocrisy that flows though their scaly bodies.
Anyhow, this little blog claims rights to the phrase, "sh*thole countries," or at least co-authorship. Please see this little piece, originally written back in 2005, and reposted here in 2013. You will find the following paragraph,
Many years ago, as we prepared our return to a tough posting in the Far Abroad after leave in the States, our son asked, "Do we have to go back to the 'turd' world?" That phrase, "redolent" with the wisdom possessed only by children, has stayed with me over these passing years. My son was right about the 'turd' world. What tips you off that you have arrived in a poor country, a truly, genuinely dirt-poor corner of the Far Abroad, is the smell. As you leave the airport, you notice a special "exotic" odor of rotting vegetation, garbage, and feces combined with a slight whiff of smoke. Once you're there a bit, you no longer notice. When you leave and come back, it slams you all over again. The kid was right: we had been and still do live in the "Turd World."Well? Well? Bueller? Bueller? Anybody?
I have written before (here in 2015, for example),
Around the world we see that just about everybody wants to live with the White Christian Dudes. We see this drive to live with White Christian Dudes every day along our southern border; Australians see it on their coasts and in the changing make up of their cities; Britons in the unceasing wave of migrants besieging their island. Canada's beautiful Vancouver in beautiful British Columbia has become a largely Asian city. Everywhere, it seems, the civilization built by White Christian Dudes is the magnet. Non-WCDs don't leave WCD countries; my family certainly didn't.I previously noted in 2013 that we had to recognize that,
Unlike liberals who see what they believe, conservatives tend to believe what we see. We do not see a country in the grip of racial tension, at least not until the charlatans begin to act.If our country and the West at large, indeed were fetid cesspools of racism, homophobia, Islamophobia, white privilege, brutal patriarchy, etc., would people all over the world risk everything they have, including their lives, to come to our countries?
Here we see that the progs are akin to the Hamlet's bomb-making engineer, "hoisted on their own petard." We have to let anybody who wants into our countries because not to means those persons will suffer death, torture, and so on. They can't be returned to their own countries once they are here, because, well, see previous sentence.
Kinda sounds like they came from sh*thole places to me, no? How about to you? If they did not, then there should be no problem returning them home.
Trump wins; virtue signalers lose.
Next case, bailiff.
How about penalizing Mexico for every returned 'immigrant'? Our 'New NAFTA' perhaps?
ReplyDeleteMexico is a failed state, just like Haiti. The government has no idea how to manage itself or protect its people. We'd have no reason to oppose a revolution in many of these '*hole' countries.

Thats what is really required. Make them feel the pain and if they dont pay, stop all visa applications, expel their embassy, forbid any further travel to American land by any of them.
DeleteIn many of them, such as Haiti and Iran, we have already sponsored multiple revolutions.
Deleteanon - fwiw, that's not what I said.
DeleteThe point is: we talk a big game about taking people in... that's counterproductive and it's also just the easy stuff... Taking people in doesn't change any of the fundamental reasons people are fleeing mexico or haiti to begin with. Without a plan to fix the underlying problems, I don't see any immigration policy changes really making a difference in what our progressive overlords claim they want to solve via open borders.
- reader #1482
I suggest we take a page from Mexico and enforce what I hear are *their* rules: immediate incarceration without bail or release until the deportee is deposited on the other side of their southern border.
ReplyDeleteThat, and the response of the Tijuana Superintendent of Schools who, when asked about how many illegal alien children were in his schools responded "None, illegal aliens aren't allowed to attend our schools"...
Yep. and perfect opening for a very uncomfortable discussion about what exactly happened to all that aid pledged for Haiti? I think the President should openly ask. Put the Red Cross, the U.N. and the Clinton foundation ( and the usual folks at State ) on the hot seat. Where were the millions of dollars spent? Why no sewers in Haiti? Housing? Why are shithole countries so resistant to improving... will all the millions and billions spent? I think it would be a great series of questions to ask no one in particular... I hope he does.
ReplyDeletePerfect Mr. Amselem. I do hope the president reads it.

Yeah Mad,
ReplyDeleteI remember long ago the smell. It was shall we say pungent!
I've always thought that paying for 2 week vacation to a third world country (Haiti, Pakistan,or any subSahara nation) for a random american soccer mom would be a cost effective way to increase Republican votes in battle ground states.
ReplyDelete"any subSahara nation": a member of my family who is well travelled across parts of sub-Saharan Africa would bridle at that. His experience is that some of those nations are decent places with some hopes of improvement.
DeleteAn example is Botswana which he thinks has real merits. True it gets accused of mistreating the Bushmen, but it's been less nasty than the way Americans historically treated the Injuns.
Mind you, fond as he is of India, he does hate its pervasive stink of human ordure. No doubt the loony sort of Indian nationalist (is there any other sort?) will invent some way of blaming even that on colonialism. Hey ho.
Since you mention India, I rather liked Taiwan (where I taught). Thailand, where I served as a consular officer, was rather nice, too. China and Laos might become good places if they could get rid of the Communists.had their charms.
DeleteI did not like Viet Nam, but I didn't have the language. Then again, a white or mostly white person's only defense against their very aggressive street beggars was a repertoire of ugly Russian cuss words (they knew the Russians never had money). Unfortunately, I was just too big and healthy-looking to pass for a Russian sailor.
As for Africa, I've had fine students and colleagues from that continent. However, some of the things said about the old countries would make me hesitate to visit some of them.
Exactly ! Thanks DiploMad, well said. Of course there are shitholes, too many in this world. And naturally people want to leave them. And like you write, the best nations, the magnets, the nations these people want to settle in, were build by White Christian Dudes. However, if the migrants do not want to or can not adapt to the new place and its rules these will be shitholes, or at least full of shitholes, too. There are many such examples now.
ReplyDeleteSwedish lady
We now have actual sh*tholes in the US as well, Swedish lady. I just saw an article yesterday (and did some research to verify accuracy) that SF has a "poop map" detailing all the places human feces has been reported on the sidewalks, etc. This goes back at least several years. So now they are not only a sanctuary city but a literal sh*thole to boot. Crazy.
DeleteAnd they say colonialism was bad. Recall the Monty Python skit where a subject of Roman conquest was complaining about being a colony ... how awful it was ... except for the roads ... oh, yes and the aquaducts ... and the baths were good ... and the colliseums ... etc., etc.
DeleteAnd one of the guys wanted to be called Loretta. Python ahead of it's time.
DeleteThe entire press, worldwide, is going apoplectic over whether Trump said "I" or "I'd" when talking about a possible relationship with young Kimmy. None of them could be bothered looking into Uranium One, Iran nuke deals, Clinton Foundation in Haiti, etc, etc. No wonder we look for the truth on the internet.
ReplyDeleteSince we weren’t there, we aren’t really sure just what words Trump used in that comment. However, it seems to me that describing those countries as “shitholes” is simply an acknowledgement of fact. Those of us who have visited there fully understand this.
ReplyDeleteNowhere in his comment did he refer to the actual people living there as shitholes, or any other pejorative term. He was referring to the nation itself, and by inference, its leaders.
Doesn't stop the MSM and Booker from saying he did mean the people. There is some good news however ... scatology took the Wolff book off of the front pages.
DeleteApparently, the actual term used was "shithouse," which should clear up all the confusion and we can return to talking about real issues. And Obamacare will save you $2500 a year,
ReplyDeleteListen! All of you in the "1st world" are staring into the abyss. This is going to kill you all. It is happening as we speak; slow at first and than with a rush. Your countries are going to be invaded by the needy poor from shithole countries until they outnumber you and your democracies will work against you. They will take everything from you. Your money, your assets, your house, your children, everything and then your life. Cui bono?
ReplyDeleteYou are looking at a worldwide crisis that will end in millions, tens of millions killed or disappeared. I know, I know, you don't think so. You think it is not that big a deal. After all what I'm suggesting has never happened before so how could it happen now. That's is what makes it a perfect trap. As time passes and more immigrants legal and illegal enter into each Western country their fate will be sealed and like a perfect trap once tripped the trapped cannot escape. Do you really think Italy, France, Germany and other European countries will escape that fate? It is happening right before your eyes and like the frog slowly being boiled to death you cannot see what is happening. But there it is...
Within 10 years Italian women will be forced to cover up their heads when they are outside simply to keep from getting raped or having acid thrown in their faces. Ditto for France, Belgium, Germany, Greece, maybe England and Ireland too. Christian churches will be attacked, those who disagree on social media will be hounded, Sharia law will be enforced.
This can be stopped and reversed but it will not be. It will take strong leaders with guts, bypassing liberal courts and liberal efforts to prevent saving your country. It will require declaring war or at the least a national emergency. It will require boots on the ground, military action not "legal" action. But it won't be stopped because we have no leaders with guts (except Trump and the opposition is working double overtime to get him removed). Western Europe is lost, they just don't know it yet...
I love western Europe. I want to disagree with you. But demographic realities support your vision, if your timing seems a bit too short.
DeleteYour argument sounds like one that would have been written by our American Indians 500 years ago.
DeleteDip, I recalled your piece on the "Turd World", hoping that you would comment, and you did. It's a shame Trump was seemly unaware of your son’s profound declaration, for if Trump would have used that phrase it wouldn't have to be elided when printed or spoken in polite company.
ReplyDeleteAdd Syria, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
ReplyDeleteNew York born and bred - Queens, Manhattan, The Bronx, and Brooklyn - shithole refers to a place, shithead to a person. Trump spoke truth.
ReplyDeleteI've gotten a lot of mileage out of the "Turd World" the last few days. Heh!
ReplyDeleteYou know where to mail the royalty checks . . .
DeleteSchools were closed due to weather, so, when the afternoon cleared, it was movie evening. Thanks to Mr. Dip's recommendations, the JOwife and I went to see _The Darkest Hour_. Yes, it was a great film despite a couple liberties taken with history (although not the big stuff). Thanks for the recommendation on your earlier post.
ReplyDeleteAs for S**thole countries, my classes were riled a bit over the remark last week, but I pointed out to them that I had ancestors who thought a couple of now-respectable European states as not much better than s**tholes. In any case, I wonder how tidy, neat, and tour-worthy a lot of Europe would be had it not unloaded a lot of its human garbage on the New World back in the 19th century--and then depended on the human garbage's offspring to underwrite their defense from WWII on.
I'd also like to reflect, in response to this post, on Justin Trudeau's recent decision to tell undocumented migrants in the USA that Canada isn't open, including sending an Argentine-born official to tell Southern Cal that it wants no riffraff (maybe not in so many words) should Trump's bite prove equal to his bark.
ReplyDeleteWell, it just so happens, as a former consular officer, I recall that proposed immigration reforms for the USA that have been discussed since the 1980's include a system much more like Canada's than Emma Lazarus' poem written into law. In short, the immigration reform wants people who are clearly and unambiguously a benefit for the receiving country. It makes a lot of Canada-admiring libs (at least, they admire our neighbor when it doesn't elect people like Harper) nervous when I point it out.
But that would be an immigration policy that would be *beneficial* to the United States. Being progressive is about *dismantling* the United States. Makes sense now eh? :)

It seems a new "Confederacy" is forming along the West Coast and certain elitist Blue concentrations elsewhere. John C. Calhoun must be smiling from above! It took 150 years to do it. There is even a new "Jim Crow" climate within major corporations like Google. History is not a warning for these people, it is a guide.
DeleteI can hardly wait to see the contents of the memo currently circulating around Congress and then, equally exciting, reading the commentary here.
