Good or Bad for the Jews

Many years ago, and for many years, I would travel to Morocco to visit uncles, cousins, and my paternal grandmother. Some lived in Tangiers;...

The Face of Goofy, Happy, Guilt-free Defiance

Working on something more serious and less fun, but in the meanwhile, contemplate the face of goofy, happy, guilt-free defiance.

My daughter came home late from work and school, and found Hartza awaiting her on her bed--strictly forbidden--and in no mood to take orders to make way.

Here is the defiant 90-lb criminal's face as captured by our highly sophisticated defiant criminal face capturing thing.

  1. I love that self satisfying smile dogs always seem to put on when they do things like this. It's like they know that if they cross their paws and look adorable, we will be unable to scold them. Sad thing is, it works on me all the time. Dip, thanks for the moment of levity in a world that is getting extremely serious.

    1. It is impossible to scold this dog. He has total domination of the house.

    2. He's obviously just following Eric Holder's lead when it comes to the law.

  2. No, this spot is mine. And no, I don't care to fetch the ball or any other object at the moment. You may return when I inform you that I need to go out side.

    1. Wait, this sounds more like the MO of a cat. Are you sure he isn't just a really big, ugly cat? :-)

    2. My Shepherd-Akita cross behaves that way, too, right down to the crossed paws. Akitas are independent and groom themselves almost as much as a cat.

I wonder if Hartza also talks back to the DiploMad? I've heard that's another Akita trait. It sounds not like a bark or a howl, sort of a woo, woo, woo.

    3. He does indeed talk. Lots of grunts, whines, clicks and yawns. He is very stealthy, too, much like a big mountain lion. He sneaks up behind you very quietly.

    4. hah! There is no way your dog is as vocal as our Great Pyrenees. My wife, who has been around dogs far longer than I have, says she's never had a dog that talks back as much as ours. Our Great Pyr is incredibly sweet, otherwise, she wouldn't be able to get away with as much as she does.

  5. This is the thing when you allow your dog(s) free range of your house, as I do. My three Kelpies sleep on my bed, under it, on the spare room bed, under that, my lounge chair, in the middle of the hallway necessitating stepping over or around her (persistent criminal), on the back step, on the front step, on the bathroom tiles on hot days; in fact anywhere I want to go within my own house is usually occupied by a dog. One of my trio goes into total canine hysterics whenever I drive or ride off the property spinning circles and barking like crazy yet displays total and utter indifference upon my return. He's only been in my truck once, which was the day I brought him home from the animal shelter. He absolutely refuses to get on board whereas the other two battle to be first in. For me, dogs are a constant source of amusement and bemusement.

  7. SWMBO and I are owned by two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels around whom the world revolves - according to them.

The inescapable truth is that a home without a dog [or two] is just a house.

  8. Well Mr. Mad the news (Ukraine and Venez.) is pretty bad. One headline I saw trumphets Kerry's decision to give Irael and the Palestinians more time for an agreement. There are times I feel for the mid level and down State personel who are trying.

    1. That would be sure to put the IDF on high alert but then I suspect given the reliability of their neighbours in their anti-Semitism and the unreliability of the present US administration in respect to the alliance they already are.

    1. Whew! What a read. It needs to be read a couple of times to absorb. This is similar to a speech given by Prof. John Marini a few months back at Hillsdale College called "Budget Battles and the Growth of the Administrative State". Something that grew out of the LBJ years of the mid 1960s. The things we the people don't know.

    2. Mad Ital, Very interesting read, thanks. A bit too lefty for my taste and he undermines it with too much conspiracy talk but his point is well taken about the silent growth of government.

  16. Had to put down our 8yo golden retriever/english hunting dog mix coupla weeks ago, too painful to watch him try to continue on. Still expect to see the big cowdog come galumphing through the house to greet me... Already thinking about hanging out at the pound for his successor, never a replacement.
