As a child I got hold of an English translation of The Adventures of Baron Münchhausen. I loved reading his fantastic adventures and fantasies, especially the one in which he pulled his horse and himself out of quicksand by pulling on his own hair. Münchhausen, who actually existed, was a German nobleman who served in the Tsar's army fighting the Turks in the mid-18th century. His adventures grew and got embroidered and, well, turned into the sort of fantasies we now associate with consummate liars or, well, just energetic raccontuers. His name also has been given to a serious mental disorder, Munchhausen by Proxy Syndrome (MBPS) in which a caregiver, usually a woman, exaggerates a child's illnesses or very often secretly inflicts suffering on the child, e.g., poisoning, to gain attention for herself and her valiant ministrations.
It turns out the biographic material on the Baron is inaccurate. You will only read this here, nowhere else. The Baron did not die in 1797 as is commonly thought. No, not at all.
He was elected President of the United States in 2008.
Obama is Münchhausen, or at least the one in the fantasy tales. I have strong doubts that Obama served in the Tsar's cavalry fighting the Ottomans.
Obama has a long history which identifies him as Münchhausen.
He is a teller of tall tales only loosely based on his life experiences. Since we are not allowed to read his real life, we must be content with his version and that of his handlers: we are told of the white girlfriend with her racist tendencies--that we later find out this girl never existed, well, never mind. We learn of his struggles with student loans but are never allowed a peak at his school records and how a mediocre student from a dysfunctional family, growing up in remote Hawaii and Indonesia, gets into a succession of elite and expensive schools. We have to rely on the Baron's accounts to learn how "brilliant" he was at university. He becomes president and--Behold!--he wins the Noble Prize for his oratory and story-telling! He tells one whopper after another, "Fast and Furious was a Bush administration operation," "Obama saved the car industry," "Obamacare will not raise your premiums and you can keep your doctor. Period." And on and on.
In addition, our Baron surrounds himself with a court full of like tale-tellers: We have John "Xmas in Cambodia" Kerry; Hillary "Serbian snipers!" Clinton; Eric "Fast and Furious" Holder; Susan "It was the video" Rice: Lois "I did nothing wrong" Lerner, and on and on.
We live in truly marvelous times. The Good Baron is now leading us into a murky war in Syria--a war with murky objectives, and murky allies, and murky strategy. A war tailor-made for the telling of tales of great derring-do and heroics by the Baron.
As, furthermore, with all good progressives, our White House Baron is also a practitioner of MBPS (see above). The progressive seeks to make the body politic sick and then propose the path to good health. Increase poverty to fight poverty! Increase income inequality to fight income inequality! Solve illegal immigration by increasing illegal immigration! And on and on.
I can't wait to read the novel . . .
Well Bob, I see some good coming out of the Obamayomama 'administration'. It has been obvious (to me at least) that he was elected on a euphoric wave of peace, love, hugs, kittens and rainbows and "see how progressive we are, we have elected a (half) black man to the White House. Isn't that just groovy?" After a few months in office however it became pretty clear that the Annointed One had no grasp of foreign policy, no grasp of domestic policies with a view to increasing the lot of the average American citizen, in short he couldn't find his own ass with both hands.
ReplyDeleteWhat this means I think is in the immortal words of The Who 'We (you) Won't Get Fooled Again'. The next two contenders for POTUS will be under the microscope from Day One, with their entire lives scrutinised. No more of this 'can't find my birth certificate or college records' horseshit. Their lives are going to have to be a verifiable open book, nothing else will suffice.
Mind you, Obamayomama won't care. He'll be raking in squillions on the rubber chicken circuit and taking lots of Mulligans in his golf game. Sad but true.
the next potus is hillary, like it or not. she'll grab 80%+ of the female vote.
Deletebho tells us: identity politics works.

Can't see that happening myself #1482 but then I'm in Australia and as such a distant observer. Obama has poisoned the well for any following Democrat contender for at least 2-3 terms I think. The only thing that HRC has going for her is that she is a woman and that will not be anywhere near enough.
DeleteNope, I feel that if the Republican Party put up an Eisenhower-type candidate, a man concerned with the safety, strength and prosperity of the USA and taking a totally disinterested stance on muslims killing each other, then the GOP will stroll it in come 2016.
PF: I am not as convinced about that as you are, in fact, I am very concerned that the Democrats will own the White House for the next two terms. They will play the first woman in the oval office card for all it is worth and the symbolism will be enough for many low information voters. I don't know how many people overall voted for Gillard just because she was the first, but I know many people who really should have known better who fell for it.
DeletePopular Front,
DeleteI hope and pray that you are right, but I fear not. The Media is every bit as much the enemy as the Democrats are, since they are the Propaganda Arm of the Democratic Party in all but name.
They shilled and lied for Obama, and did everything in their power to drag his sorry carcass across the finish line, especially in 2012 (witness Candy Crowley, who should be a media pariah for what she did in the debate between Romney and Obama, is still employed).
They will continue to lie for, conceal the truth for, and attack the enemies of, Democrats. I think Sir Edmund might have too much baggage to win the election, but I think the Media will still try for her. They will, however, apply as much scrutiny as possible to a Republican or Independent candidate.
All that said? I pray you are right and I am wrong.
What Acethepug said--the media is the big force multiplier and, regardless of what stories have been coming out about lying, corruption and just plain old incompetence, they will quickly go into spin mode in the election cycle.
DeleteThey will side with the Dems and denigrate the GOP (and/or any conservative) and will certainly not be bothered about making stuff up if it furthers the agenda of the Dems.
I remain at a loss as to how the right can fight this nonsense. They certainly aren't doing a very good job of it right now.
Obama's socialist politics and managerial incompetence was plain to see for anyone at all who cared to look by 2012. His re-election (not his initial election) was due solely to class/race/gender hatred. This is Democrats' sole operational tactic, and it's very successful when done with the able assistance of the media. I suspect this formula will come through for them into the future, at least until things really, really get bad. As Adam Smith said "there's a lot of ruin in a nation" - especially the USA.
DeleteMark in Portland
Not true if Hillary is the nominee. Her history is as radical as Obama's but it will be hidden as thoroughly as the Rose Law Firm billing records or the TV miniseries "The Path to 9/11." Cattle futures, the whole nine yards.
DeleteI agree with the other replies. The only relentless scrutiny that will occur will be of the Republican.

MBPS is 'megabytes per second'... not sure what it is in the department-of-state-world.
ReplyDeleteIt's no surprise that 'occupy' and now 'global warming whatever' are really *his* legacy... as there's sure not going to be anything positive of note. Heck, he even stole his obamacare from hillary.... well, I guess that means he's got balls (though probably only ones he cut off of her!)
rough day reading this climate-march CRAP.... disappointed in humanity in the extreme...

Munchausen By Proxy Syndrome as mentioned early in the post.
Deletehuh.. duh.. I'm ... err .. no excuse for that.. I suppose I read mbps and my brain immedaiately brings up 'megabytes per second' and then I lose all real rational thought.

Not a big deal. Reading something and "registering" something else happens all the time. I once read a headline in The Japan Times expecting to read a story about banditry of places of accommodation in the countryside. The headline was "Small Town Outlaws Love Hotels." It was actually about a small town that passed an ordinance against the "love hotels" that rented rooms by the hour. I was two paragraphs in before I realized my mistake.
DeleteRemember everyone the big election is two years away (a lifetime in politics), though I'm sure the Dems wished it had been 3 months ago. They will twist and turn ferociously between now and the near and far election, expect the worst in lying, etc. The problem the Dems(Progs) have is that they've been captured by their own ideology and can never ever admit they are wrong or the whole shebang comes down. All this is a long way around of saying that they have lost the initiative and can not get it back with new ideas. They have spent the last 6 years burning through their credibility (and their allies the press) and cannot go back. They should be easy political targets if the opposition just gets the fortitude to truly oppose.
ReplyDeleteAn aside: Mr. Mad, it looks like the Iranians have just got themselves a nifty air force with USAF markings. ISIS also gives Iran every excuse to hurry up and get the bomb. The next 6 months are going to be something else.
God PF, how I wish/hope you are correct. The people are stupid. Not to rant, but we are screwed. The first election of BO might be written off as an aberration. Not the second. The US had a good and glorious run. What the hell. But the losers now outnumber us, and they have leadership. In a democracy this is fatal. Buckle up, the ship is going down- look to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteDamn I am depressed.
The Annenberg Public Policy Center recently did a survey in conjunction with Constitution Day. The poll of 1,416 adults was disheartening. Our electorate has become increasingly dumbed down, and the generations following us will be even more so.
DeleteWhile little more than a third of respondents (36 percent) could name all three branches of the U.S. government, just as many (35 percent) could not name a single one.
Just over a quarter of Americans (27 percent) know it takes a two-thirds vote of the House and Senate to override a presidential veto.
One in five Americans (21 percent) incorrectly thinks that a 5-4 Supreme Court decision is sent back to Congress for reconsideration.
The study also found that more than half of Americans do not know which party controls the House and Senate:
Asked which party has the most members in the House of Representatives, 38 percent said they knew the Republicans are the majority, but 17 percent responded the Democrats, and 44 percent reported that they did not know (up from 27 percent who said they did not know in 2011).
Asked which party controls the Senate, 38 percent correctly said the Democrats, 20 percent said the Republicans, and 42 percent said they did not know (also up from 27 percent who said they did not know in 2011).
There's more, if your stomach can handle it: http://www.annenbergpublicpolicycenter.org/americans-know-surprisingly-little-about-their-government-survey-finds/
Pathetic is it not?
DeleteHowever were the same poll adminstered to members of congress and the supreme court I doubt that the results would be better, hence the halfrican can rule like a queen.
Can nobody remember the tortuous negotiations with foreign governments and the UN as well as congress before GWB went to war with Iraq? The halfrican princess is above such restrictions, 1776 was a waste of time, money and lives.
Several commenters have noted how valuable the fourth estate is/has been to the Democrats. I think almost as important, and perhaps equally as important in future elections, will be outright theft of the electoral results. What happened in Al Franken's election (finding of several hundred misplaced ballots) made Obamacare possible. Without that Third World corruption we in the USA would still be arguing about whether the government should take over health care. That's a frightening prospect -- the Democrats have learned they can get away with this fraud on a large scale and no one will call them on it. That could well mean the end of honest elections and the end of the republic as we know it.
ReplyDeleteBottom line is that this fraud in the WH is illegal. Being Constitutionally ineligible to even have been on the ballot, the last two elections were illegitimate. All of the usurper's actions in office should be voided.
DeleteJust as scary as the massive cover-up of this occupant's identity and background, has been the attempts to scrub certain legal references from SCOTUS cases re natural born citizenship.
There you go getting all technical, seems to me that the mere act of turning up somewhere in the USA (from say Guatemala, Kenya, Indonesia, Mexico heck maybe even Canada) qualifies you for all the inalienable rights bestowed on citizens. Paying taxes is for pussies.
Deleteyou left out white house press secretary josh "global tranquility under obama" earnest. respectfully, jt.
ReplyDelete...or Jay 'Jay Carney' Carney...
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I were still Democrats, at least on paper, when Gore tried to steal the election in 2000. We could understand what the media were doing, because we had worked with the punch card voting machines, and knew for an absolute certainty that there is no such thing as a dimpled chad, and, listening to the daily propaganda blasts, we recognized the lies in real time, and remembered them when the "line" changed the nest week. This is especially important for me, because the Useful Idiots newest gambit is to demand to know, "Where are you getting your information from?" sic. Prepositions are not good words to end sentences with They won't believe blogs, not even this excellent one, nor Fox, nor other .quite truthful sources. They have been warned off. So, be ready, use information that has made it through the screen. Explain that Drudge is an aggregator, mostly, and that he publishes material that passed the censor, sometimes before they knew it mattered, sometimes, grudgingly, tacked on the the tail end of a story on the inside pages, but picked up and remembered, with attribution, by Drudge. (Also by Rush, but think of Rumplestilskin before you tell them any of that. Messy, very messy, indeed.) We will sway very few, but we can shake their confidence, maybe demoralize them, and keep them at home on election day.
ReplyDeleteThe point of such meanderings is that we need to fight the post-election campaigns very vigorously. They will, that's for sure.
Greetings from Downunder,
ReplyDeleteCould we all be happy with Condi Rice as the next President?
she could barely get onto the board of dropbox... there's no chance voters would be allowed to go to the polls if she were on the ticket... every polling place would be awash with protesters preventing access to anybody they deemed looked to be voting for her.. it's called "direct action".

Munchies by Doxy Syndrome.
ReplyDeleteMunchies by Doobie Syndrome?
DeleteWell may we commiserate about The One and his anointed ones however the American public voted for them....twice.
ReplyDeleteI have such a bleak view of the future so much so that I am waiting to read Mr.Mad's comparison of Hillary in 2016 to another figure associated with a mental illness.
Mr. Amselem, you insult the German Freiherr. The original Baron von Munchhausen was at least entertaining. The O is just appalling.
ReplyDeleteMY APOLOGIES TO LIARS AND BARONS ALL OVER THE WORLD.

ReplyDeleteI look forward to the day when the adoring hoards meet the halfrican with his throne on the Atlantic shore and he commands the tide to recede. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2pZSvq9bto
ReplyDeleteCascadian you malign the good King Cnut [Canute to some]. He was trying to point out to his followers that he was not omnipotent and the tide would ebb and flow despite his admonitions to do otherwise.
DeleteThe Halfrican actually believes he could control the tidal flow.
At least that is how it appears from Down Under.
Shanah tovah everyone.
That was "our" president speaking to the UN yesterday? Well, academia must have been pleased.
ReplyDeleteWell, what do you know. Eric Holder has resigned. Happening today. Methinks this isn't all there is to this story. Given the absence of any hints or rumors that this was going to happen, I'd say it wasn't necessarily planned.
ReplyDeleteHolder is a sorry bastard. Excelled only by his boss and equaled only by Harry Reid.
DeleteGood riddance, Eric. Don't think we've all forgotten Fast and Furious, your refusal to look into voter intimidation in Philly, your covering the weaponization of the IRS against the Great Leader's political opponents, etc. You allowed your boss to get away with carrying out the Watergate of the Left, so I'm sure the MSM will tout that as a political necessity rather than the high crime and misdemeanor against free speech and political participation that it was.
DeleteI wonder in which direction the grand jury in Missouri is leaning?
ReplyDelete(Read yesterday the second/nearby memorial immolated. Some passersby insisting they'd "smelled gas" - I can only surmise at what "gas" was meant. Not that it matters but I seriously doubt any foul play whatsoever. But I too seriously doubt Holder wouldn't be pressed to launch another "investigation.")
What's up with the IRS stuff?
Notice whitewall, everything above ending as interrogatories?
Meaning, I'll not be open to any wagering?
Arkie
Arkie, I don't blame you.
DeleteNicely done, though you’re far too generous.
ReplyDeleteThe greatest disappoint with Barak, HIllary, Harry, Nancy, and John is the discovery that the American people, who allegedly believed in reason and freedom, are easily deceived into poverty and tyranny.
Rush Limbaugh: What if Holder’s resigning because Obama wants him on the Supreme Court?
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine the shit storm that would cause? I hope Ginsberg is taking supplements.
syd B.: If Holder is named to the Supreme Court, I only hope the Republicans will have the spine to "Bork" him.
