Border

Saw the President's speech on the border wall issue last night (text here.) Not bad.

It wasn't the earth-shaking quake/tsunami that some in the press had predicted. It proved measured, restrained, made some very valid points and had some sharp barbs aimed  at the Dems. Trump's speech was loaded with disturbing facts which the Democrats have great difficulty disputing--check, for example, the NY Times' rather tortured "fact" checking (here.)

I found this paragraph very compelling,
Some have suggested a barrier is immoral. Then why do wealthy politicians build walls, fences and gates around their homes? They don't build walls because they hate the people on the outside, but because they love the people on the inside. The only thing that is immoral is for the politicians to do nothing and continue to allow more innocent people to be so horribly victimized. America's heart broke the day after Christmas when a young police officer in California was savagely murdered in cold blood by an illegal alien who just came across the border. The life of an American hero was stolen by someone who had no right to be in our country.
Trump just set the Dems a baited trap. He has called on them to come to the White House to discuss the border issue and the partial government shut-down. We all know how that will turn out, and then Trump will announce that he's building the wall without the Congress. He can, of course, cite previous bipartisan bills passed on the need to strengthen border security. I think his next address on this issue will be something less measured and more Trumpian.

And the Dem reply (here)?

What can I possibly say? Sigh . . .

First, a bit of snark. The Dems are the party of Hollywood and the media. Why can't they do something a little more dignified and visually appealing than the absurd show put on by Schumer and Pelosi? I know there's a government shut down, but given how wealthy Pelosi and Schumer are, couldn't they have sprung for a bigger podium, or maybe even two? Or taken turns coming to the podium? When these two politicos flashed onto my TV screen, jammed up against each other, crammed behind that tiny podium, I thought it was a badly photo shopped still shot--until I saw Schumer blink. They looked ridiculous.

In their statement, they ignored everything Trump had just said, and delivered an obviously long ago prepared, stale word salad of old Dem talking points about Trump relying on "fear not facts," etc. They had no valid explanation for opposing the wall except it won't work--which is a lie. I also noticed that in her reply, Nancy Pelosi--who is very wealthy and lives in a mansion surrounded by a high wall--ignored how immoral her lifestyle has become. I am sure Trump being Trump will be back at her repeatedly with that line about rich politicians living behind walls.

Time to build the wall, and as I have laid out many times there are many ways to make Mexico and Central America pay for its construction.

BTW, I blame Paul Ryan for this mess . . .

  1. You are right about Ruan. Just look at what parts of the gov't the House didn't fund when he was in charge. Designed to give the Dems maximum leverage. No wonder Republicans have problems ... Ryan, Flake, etc. ... and now Mitt.

I'd just add that after securing the Boiders,
we can expect to see the drug cartels and their anti-USA collaborators exploit other avenues to distribute their poisons! A Perfect job for the Wall Builders! Construct new Prisons, to contain the large and growing population of dealers, suppliers, haulers, and consumers of illicit drugs!

  3. one wonders how much feces and urine from the homeless has accumulated around peolsi's mansion in san francisco? do they pitch it over the wall? i recall a movie scene where some political opponents used a TBF to air drop a bit of manure on another politician. a helio with a water bag would work well for some wet crap. just saying...

    1. Will probably take more than an "Avenger" to clean-up the SanFranFreakShow street level hazardous waste pollution Cap'n! Although your TBF (formic acid tert-butylester) solution may be just the right formula to clear the streets of SF of the growing population of hazardous, if not deadly microbial pathogens. Added benefit, it smells minty, however, the possibility of short term (-)groundwater effects may need to be considered before dispensing. ;)

  4. That has always been the entire reason that Trump's talk about the wall has garnered so much support. It has nothing to do whether "americans don't like brown people" and *only* to do with the same reason we lock our doors at night. Not because we hate the people who might be driving or walking around the neighborhood, but because we value what is inside the house.... our wives, kids, pets, and etc.

One of the few possible interpretations is that lefties value nothing, and thus have no concept of why one would wish to protect anything at all. The result of a dead-end philosophy is depression, so this isn't surprising to me.
If that's the case, then the lefty cannot comprehend this message and will resort to assuming the appeal is to racism.
    It's not.

Exactly right, I just hate waking up to that chill feeling with the hair standing up on the back of my neck after I hear male voices inside the perimeter, and discover the back door unlocked! Woe be onto him, etc etc etc!

  5. While watching the Democrat response to President Trump’s speech. I found myself shouting at the screen. This is uncommon for me to do, but in this case the out of touch with reality of those two, had me in an uproar. I have seen things.

I lived from 1980 to 1995 in southeast Arizona, just 7 miles from the border. Many times, in treks out in the desert I would encounter the garbage piles of the illegals. There were a lot of folks I talked to that lived in the smaller or rural areas along the border, and their tales of theft and property destruction which for the most part was committed by illegals that came here to steal, and then retreat into Mexico. Multiple large forest fires in the area were the direct result of illegals.

Later, in 2016, I served a month-long term as a Grand Jury member for Clackamas county in Oregon. Throughout my term I heard dozens of cases where illegals were involved. Somewhere around 25% of the felonies committed in my county that I heard during my term were the result of an illegal. Most of these felonies were sexual or physical assaults, and drug distribution. Apparently, they don’t do a lot of car theft or burglaries, but they do bring in almost all the Meth and heroin to the area which were huge factors in over half the other cases I heard. So, to add it all up. Illegals directly committed about a quarter of the felonies, and through the drugs they bring in can be attributed to another 50%.

This idiotic feel good mentality of the left up here in Portland is flat out destroying the once very nice city it was in the 2000’s. Thousands of vagrants now fill the sidewalks and every underpass. These vagrants are addicted to the meth and heroin brought in by the illegals and they commit crimes in order to obtain the money to feed that habit. I live in rather well to do suburb of the Portland area, and my local grocery stores are very nice, but if I go just 4 miles west to 82nd street it is a world of difference. Armed guards are present in the grocery store, cameras like a casino, and now they had to bring in portable camera towers to monitor the parking lot because of the car prowling. Crime is out of control here, and those smug bastards in government just pander to the touchy feel crowd with more bike lanes and renaming streets to reflect the left’s heroes. In the mean time I now won’t go into Portland without being well armed.

    1. Coincidentally, my blogstop just before this one was at Daniel Greenfield's "Sultan Knish." His most recent post is on Portland:

    2. Excerpted from the above referenced: Daniel Greenfield's "Sultan Knish."

...Portlanders aren’t waiting for officers to show up and shout, “Don’t tase me, bro”. Instead in a city overrun with crime, they’re increasingly taking matters and guns into their hands.

Of the 32 violent deaths in Portland last year, 5 were found to have been carried out in self-defense. That tops the 4 deaths that occurred as a result of shootings by those cops who still have their guns.

Richard R. Hanley showed up in the parking lot outside Timeless Tattoo. The California homeless bum had previously made the news when he was arrested for attacking his ex-girlfriend and her new beau with a metal chain. Hanley, already on probation for a domestic abuse and strangulation conviction, with six felony and seven misdemeanor priors, also pulled out huge clumps of a female deputy’s hair.

The repeat offender began setting up his tent in the parking lot. When a female catering manager asked him to stop, he attacked her. Joseph D. Vinci, a tattoo artist, intervened. Hanley pulled a knife and Vinci pulled a gun. And Hanley’s long reign of terror ended to the outcry of local pro-crime activists.

Portland's other homeless death had a much darker ending.

Dallas Boyd, a 29-year-old mother of a two-year-old, was strangled to death by a homeless man and her body was left to rot in his van. Like Hanley, the homeless killer had racked up nine felonies, six misdemeanors and 15 parole violations, including third-degree assault, and first-degree robbery.

Homeless crime has become both routine and terrifying. One Portlander described being threatened with a machete on a children’s playground, and it’s taken the city’s crime problem to new levels.

15% of Portland’s violent deaths in 2018 involved the homeless in some way.

Portland property crimes rose 15% in 2017. Its property crime rates easily outpace Boston and Denver, and put it on a par with dangerous cities like Atlanta. Its homeless blight has put Portland on the same path as San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles. Portland’s Downtown Clean and Safe had picked up less than 9,897 used needles in 2015. This year it's 39,000. Garbage and biohazards have also increased.

Car thefts are up 45% in two years. In Mayor Wheeler’s State of the City address this year, he mentioned a “97 percent increase in stolen vehicle calls” in 5 years. There was also a "64 percent increase in unwanted persons calls and a 32 percent increase in disorder calls."

But Mayor Wheeler emphasized Portland was working on a more “inclusive” and diverse” police force, even as he admitted that the city was caught in a crime wave where, “assaults, homicides, sex offenses, etc. – have increased and are rising at a higher rate than last year; property crimes have also increased and are rising at a higher rate than last year.”

“Chief Outlaw leads a bureau with fewer officers today than a decade ago, despite a 10 percent increase in Portland’s population,” Wheeler whined.". . .

  7. In response to a Straw Poll viz the Border Wall,(97% N=72 now in support) over at CommonCents, I posted some addendums:

Moreover, the Wall's defensive side should present a punishing surface, so that none but the most aggressive invader would attempt to scale or attack it! The wall should also be equipped with state of the art 24hour monitoring sensors, cameras, and auto-response weaponry to defeat immediate threats. In addition, a manned roving patrol of military defenders, capable of defeating enemy assault with counter-attack initiatives, to include calling in any additional level of offensive support necessary to Stand Our Ground!
    Did I forget anything?

  8. Around $50 Billion is scheduled to be flushed down the sewer in Afghanistan ... ... just this year. Why not spend that money wisely, instead of insanely, and use it to build The Wall? $50 billion would build a Super Wall across the whole southern border. Isn't it about time to finance a Department of Defense as an asset rather than a lunatic asylum.

  9. I think Trump is going to wait a while and let the 800,000 fed employees b adger their Democrat representatives. Also, Steve Hayward has suggested starting to privatize Air Traffic Control and the TSA. They are calling in sick. Let the voters see how well things run in 99% of the country without the 800,000 tax eaters.

  10. Apparently they're going to reactivate some additional parts of the FAA to keep the airlines in business.... I think it's ridiculous... if Trump's playing hardball, he should play hardball. The lefty elite will panic at the prospect of not being able to attend their conferences of echo-chamber accolades on account of a shutdown over having borders. They'll cave... it's what people do when they have a fundamental belief in nothing.

  11. Nice piece of work by Jarvik over there:

    https://thelatest.com/tlt/the-government-shutdown-isn-about-a-wall-government-shutdown-donald-tru-1547247795

"The current government shutdown isn't about construction of a wall along the US-Mexican border; rather it's a symbolic struggle over whether President Donald J. Trump is allowed to remain President. This is a fight President Trump can't afford to lose.

...Congress passed appropriations for those barriers in both Bush and Obama administrations. Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer agreed to funding then, so why not now?

The answer is that this confrontation isn't about construction of a wall; rather it's about whether President Donald J. Trump should be allowed to remain President.

    It is about the "Resistance."

Normally, Congress defers to the President on matters of national security, even if there is serious opposition. Congress may rail, but when a President insists, Congress generally agrees to let the American people decide whether they like it at the next Presidential election. It becomes an issue used by both sides to mobilize their voters.

But the "Resistance" is not Washington politics as usual."

Said I in reaction to the article, and a commenters BS comment which Mr. Jarvik commented on in the comments section:) In response, I wrote using my dysfunctional Discus account as my on-->site agent:

In the middle of the target once again, 'Jarvik!
NO! Revolution is NOT the foundation of Government it is a weapon used against governments!
We the People elected this government, NOT a Deep State cadre of disguised and resistant anti-Americans! Those employees who are unsatisfied with the rules,[and outcomes] need to resign and find paid employment more in line with their socialistic and anti-America anti-POTUS ideology! If not, they will continue to be neutralized one way or another -- if the USA is to survive and provide an example for Free people to emulate in their own nations.
