The Prog World of Green Misery

I have been reading some more on the "New Green Deal" or "Green New Deal" or however it becomes finally known. I offer some reflections on what the New World Green, New Green World, or Green New World, or however it becomes known, would look like should it come to pass.

The driving vision behind this horrid lunacy, of course, is a Fascist/Nazi/Communist one--in other words, it's a classic Brave New World of the left, using the hoax "science" of "climate change" to justify itself.

What comes through this proposal is the utter disdain and contempt for the individual and for the rights, views, and choices of that individual. The attack on fossil fuels, for example, is nothing less than an attack on individual mobility and freedom. The automobile, for all its faults, has been a vehicle of liberty, of choice, aka, freedom. In North America, perhaps more than anywhere else, the automobile stands for hope. "I don't like it in this town for reasons X, Y, and Z. I am loading up the Chevy and moving 500 miles away." "I don't want to live next to my factory/office building/other place of work. I want to live in a town in the suburbs or the countryside. I can commute to work in my automobile."

Automobiles, overwhelmingly, run on fossil fuels. As the recent "Polar Vortex" demonstrated, electric cars suffered a great deal from the cold. A near-by neighbor has a battery-powered Tesla--a beautiful piece of design and engineering--but is constantly worried about "range." The recent cold snap made that even worse. My Jeep Wrangler with its 3.6 liter engine, burning cheap 87 octane gas, laughs at the cold and snow. It takes me almost anywhere I want to go. Where I live there is no train or bus; I'll be damned if I will give up my house and cars--and guns and dogs--to live in some government-regulated enviro retro-fit building with thousands of other poor sods crowding onto a platform to take a government-run green train to some dreary government approved job, all to appease the supposed dictates of the mythical goddess Gaia. The automobile is a great thing. Let nobody tell you otherwise. The open road is a good thing. Gaia be damned!

The assault by the Green Nazis is by no means limited to cars and planes--which they also want to do away with (how about that, Senators from Washington state?). It extends to just about every aspect of life. They would tell us what we can and cannot eat. No meat! Gaia demands it! Sounds sort of like the line from the great 1930s horror film, "Island of Lost Souls" in which Bela Lugosi's character, The Sayer of the Law, must remind Dr. Moreau's miserable half-human, half-animal creatures, "What is the Law? Not to eat meat!" The poor beasts repeat back in unison, "Not to eat meat!" Watch that outstanding film, based on Wells' Island of Dr. Moreau, and then read the Green New Deal. Chilling.

And, of course, the Green Deal does not come in a vacuum. Nope. It comes as part of a prog package that includes abortion on demand, infanticide, and destruction of marriage and the family. It bans pets, farm animals, guns, and borders. It imposes speech restrictions, limitations on religious faith, and an insistence on politically correct thought. It does "guarantee" access to nature. Yes, let's revive the Hitler Youth or the Young Pioneers! It is a prog prescription for hell on earth. A hell devoid of fun and adventure; a hell of drudgery and constant lecturing and hectoring by our betters; a hell of no innovation or advancement. A hell of the bee hive. It, in other words, is North Korea or East Germany on organic steroids.

Think this is all fantasy and will never happen? Some 70 Democrat Congressmen, including presidential candidates, have signed on. If they manage to take power . . . you watch.

  1. CO2 is produced as byproduct of respiration as well as internal engine operation. We exhale CO2. This is the interest that these progs have in "CO2 pollution" control. They would control eeven our breath, our every breath if they could. I really hate them.

  2. "Scientists estimate that, worldwide, termites may release over 150 million tons of methane gas into the atmosphere annually. In our lower atmosphere this methane then reacts to form carbon dioxide and ozone.

It is estimated that for every human on Earth there may be 1000 pounds of termites.

On the average Termites expel gas composed of about 59% nitrogen, 21% hydrogen, 9% carbon dioxide, 7% methane, and 4% oxygen."

  6. One of the true killers in the Green New Deal is the elimination of fossil fuel as to it's effects on agriculture.

Poof! Suddenly, no powered vehicles for farms. Animal power makes too many farts, so no animals. Hey, suddenly we're back to hand power only. Huh. Where to get all the extra hands that are needed... Hmmmm.. Hey. There's this Cambodian guy with a solution...

Thanks, AOC. You've seriously brought debt-slavery and the Khmer Rouge to America in one fell swoop. I guess we all now know the reason for her insistence on Rail Travel.

After reading the GND, I saw that they hit every socialistic trick tried out since even before the Puritans and their failed attempt at communism. Central Planning. 10 Year Plan. Great Leap Forward. What, no Cultural Revolution to turn the children against their elders? And the aforementioned trains.

Please, God, let the democrats have selected the form of their Destructor in AOC and the merry band of nitwits that are fawning over her. Please, let it not be the form of all our Destructor.

    Scared? Heck, yeah, I'm scared.

  7. I just saw at Legal Insurrection that Mitch McConnell is going to put AOC's bill up for a vote in the Senate. This ought to be fun. Will the various candidates for the Democratic Party's Presidential Nomination vote for this?

    What fun!

This is why we see such a farce around global warming. Even if your data costs millions of dollars, you still can't go back, adjust it, and then declare your results a success. That's not 'science'. The primary razor there is: What if your supposedly-erroneous results showed you what you already expected? Would you revisit it there? No... nobody would... because it matches expectations.
But actual science doesn't have expectations.

  10. Anti-fossil fuel? Let us review the historical record. (Yes, there were people around before Sandy Occasional-Cortex became sentient):

    - Coal saved the forests!
The early iron industry was denuding the forests of England. Iron ore processors set up in the middle of forests and cut them down to feed the fire. When they had cut down all the trees in an area, they would move the furnaces to another area and start again. Then came coal, and the trees were saved.

    - Coal ended slavery.
Slavery came to an end in much of the world in the 19th Century, in parallel with the on-going development of the coal-fired steam engine. Slave labor could not compete with the steam engine.

    - Oil saved the whales.
Prior to the US development of the "rock oil" industry in the middle 19th Century, western nations were hunting the whales nearly to the point of extinction. The main use for "whale oil" was for illumination in oil lamps -- a market for which refined "rock oil" was better and cheaper. And the whales were saved!

With such a strong environmental & social record as that, who could really want to eliminate fossil fuels?

    1. Because it's not about controlling the environment, it's about controlling us.

What the GND proposes will just enslave us undesirables, if they don't kill us outright.

  11. And it has to happen. Nuclear energy and fusion will eventually save what is left of fossil fuels.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Fusion is unlikely except in the sense that all so-called renewables (solar, hydro, wind) are technically fusion, as they ultimately derive their input energy nearly contemporaneously from the sun.
There's been *no* noteworthy progress on fusion generators in the last 50+ years in either magnetic confinement (tokamak/z-pinch) or inertial confinement (laser ablation implosion). There's been a whole lot of budget spend, but no noteworthy results suggesting we're *any* closer to financially plausible fusion power than we were 50 years ago.
Deuterium, Tritium and the like are tough nuts to crack.

IMO, we should deal with our energy consumption in fission.

I don't care for any 'green agenda' that might be behind Tesla, but those batteries are pretty impressive, and I like the idea of being able to leave my car on in my garage or potentially hooking it up to my service main for a few hours during a power outage.

    2. Interesting sidelight -- the modern "Peak Oil" movement kicked off in 1956 with a paper by Shell geologist M. King Hubbert. (There had been earlier "End of Oil" scares). Hubbert made a presentation to the American Petroleum Institute in which he introduced the famous Hubbert Curve predicting that onshore Continental US oil production would peak in around 20 years.

The title of Hubbert's paper? "Nuclear Energy and the Fossil Fuels".

Hubbert was no Doom-and-Gloomer. He recognized that in the multi-millennia long view of human history, "... the discovery, exploitation, and exhaustion of the fossil fuels will be seen to be but an ephemeral event in the span of recorded history". But Hubbert was not discouraged. He was upbeat about the magnitude of already-discovered resources to fuel nuclear power: "... we may at last have found an energy supply adequate for our needs for at least the next few centuries of the "foreseeable future". "

    3. The energy from our sun was being laid down for hundreds of millions yeats in coal, oil and natural gas. That’s a bleep load of energy. I would love to have some real scientist figure out how many BTUs this might represent. But sometime it might run low and then I hope something like fusion is harnessed.

      Delete
    4. If fusion is not ready by then, perhaps we will have to disassemble our atomic weaponry for fission power. Wouldn’t that be a hoot. Those who believe wind and solar are going to supply our needs then are blooming idiots.

  12. Two "good" things about the Green New Deal: 1) It is impossible to accomplish within their stated timeframe, for numerous reasons. Not enough construction workers to build/rehab all the structures in the US for one. 2) It totally exposes the left and all Dems who support it for the extreme radicals they are -- and shows how far out of touch they are from the mainstream. Coupled with their bizarre support for abortion up to the point of birth (and after?) and their refusal to support border security, I think they will have a tough time in the next elections.

  13. There is also the inconvenient fact that rain-forests, the alleged "lungs of the Earth" are NO SUCH THING.

Mature rain-forests are CO2 neutral or actual net producers.

    Factors:

At night ALL plants switch modes and start consuming oxygen and emitting CO2. No sunlight, no photosynthesis, no absorption of CO2.

Then there is the enormous amount of forest floor detritus, mostly plant matter, that in decaying / being consumed by a zillion tiny critters, gives off a prodigious quantity of CO2.

If there is a serious contender for the tile of "lungs of the Earth", the OCEANS, at least the top couple of feet of them, is the prime contender, with photo-plankton doing the job.

The aim of the eco-nazis is to "crash" the world's economies and technical / agricultural capabilities and then ride in and "rescue the peasants in the time-honoured, blood-drenched manner.

    2. Tropical rain forests are horrid for the environment. Now sub-tropical and almost-arctic rain forests, like those in the Pacific Northwest, are oxygen positive producers. Which is usually immediately wiped out by the local volcanoes venting. Mother Nature is an intact female dog of breeding age, isn't she?

And naturally all the Lib/Prog Democrats immediately raced to kiss the Ring of Marx on Miss Occasional-Cortex's little finger, staking out their position on the matter.

    1. One of the ways the police and Feds catch large scale hydroponic grow operations is by tracking the commercial sale of CO2. Hydro growers have been using elevated CO2 levels to push growth and maturity in order to harvest rapidly.

Well, CO2 and really expensive grow lights. So if you're trying to grow tomatoes in your underground prepper lair, then, yes, the gubmint is tracking you...

  16. It seems far-fetched to think there is someone so evil who wants to change our single family house country into Soviet style tower blocks which are crumbling even as they are being constructed.

Alas, this spells it right out:
    https://theintercept.com/2018/12/05/green-new-deal-proposal-impacts/

There are no jobs that are not government jobs. Everyone who is not super-wealthy lives in Government provided housing and takes the train to their government provided job. It's like the entire purpose of life is to have Health Insurance. Oh, of course government provided housing is now architectural masterpieces built by the best and brightest. Pity the last time I saw government housing it was a giant ugly rectangular thing, eight stories high, with units that cost $300,000 each to build. Single family homes in the area were about 2/3 that.

As long as they are mandating compulsory unionism for their workers, I wouldn't be surprised if public housing of the future might have some nice looking LEED touches but cost $600,000 per unit. Private "net-zero" buildings cost about as much as that, no? So maybe it will be more. Maybe a LOT more.

One thing for sure: There isn't enough money in the world to pay for this. And what will be left to tax? You're destroying the entire remainder of the economy.

As much as the "Green" socialist manifesto presents the Specter of a damaged American future -- I can't escape the gut feeling that the bloody wounds to our American psyche, inflicted by the FBI, Justice, IRS, Democrats, 4th estate, Spook agencies and the Dark state may take much longer to repair! Must also say tho, that without La Grand Cupid, aka Donald Trump and his slings and arrows, things could be a lot worse! 3 Cheers and a Box of Bon Bons for the CinC !
