It's no secret that I want to see President Obama defeated for the good of America. When, however, he does something right, e.g., killing Osama bin Ladin, we should note it.
I was concerned when I heard that the President would hold a press conference after visiting some of the victims from the Aurora shooting. I thought for sure he would turn it into another "I, I, I, I" moment.
Well, I was wrong. The President acted Presidential. He gave a classy and heart-felt statement at the hospital in which he thanked all those who had worked so hard to save victims, and expressed genuine condolences to the families of those who did not survive. His statement was brief, eloquent, to the point, dignified, and even touching. He did not take questions and did not turn it into a political event.
The President did well, and those of us who oppose him politically should recognize that.
Well said. Two positive strokes out of ten thousand or so opportunities is giving him appropriate credit in my book. But agree he coulda but didn't milk it as many of us assumed he would. Could it be the stopped clock syndrome?
ReplyDeleteI think you are being diplomatic... not that there is anything wrong with that.
ReplyDeleteAfter suspending the attack dog campaign (if only for a day or two), Obama felt the need to stay in the spotlight. Yes, he was constrained. I doubt however if that was self-constraint on display. It may have been but I am too jaded and lack the necessary skills to see or believe.
Obama performed the compulsory fly-over so as to appear concerned and engaged - a very common presidential maneuver. Only is rare circumstances (post 9-11 visit to ground zero by Bush) do these type manufactured news events serve a useful purpose - in my view.
Pretty low bar when we should pause to recognize a President for doing the right thing.
ReplyDeleteIt was a calculated move to restore his sinking personal favorability ratings. He'll be back to his natural nastiness and dishonesty ASAP and people will soon forget this little sojourn into basic decency.
ReplyDeleteVery well, I accept that he acted in a way that was not non-Presidential. I will note that when there are honest-to-God victims to be comforted, then someone whose worldview sees everyone as a victim or an oppressor is in his wheelhouse.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. Too many conservatives won't give Obama one ounce of credit for anything, which only hurts their own credibility.
ReplyDeleteWe should appreciate that simple thing he did. Just this morning, I've watched a video by Ed Butowsky about jobs status in the US. Click this link to watch.
