"Don't Go Rescue Them"

I just listened to the radio interview with the father of Tyrone Woods, one of the ex-SEALs murdered in Benghazi. He says a lot things that hit home. Everyone should listen to that interview.

His description of the attitude and the private words of President Obama and Secretary Clinton at Andrews when the bodies of the four murdered Americans were brought home is very disturbing. He noted that Clinton vowed to him that the government would go after the man who produced the video! He also pointed out the insincerity of both Obama and Clinton when talking with the families of the dead. His description of Hillary matches 100% with the vacuous empty stare I have seen from her in meetings when she is making it clear that she has no interest being there.

Mr. Woods points out something that the media has not and which this blog has tried to: Somewhere, somebody told the military not to go rescue our personnel.

That "No" had to come from the Commander-in-Chief.

UPDATE: Some of the info I am getting from contacts behind the scenes makes the whole thing look even worse than what has come out so far in public. I can't go into it, but there was an ability and a willingness to respond. Someone very high up made a conscious decision not to respond. SecDef Panetta's excuses are pathetic, and not worthy of him.

UPDATE 2: I see that FOX is getting the same info I have been getting. FOX has been doing an outstanding job covering this. As I predicted in a prior post, folks at State and CIA are talking to FOX and will not take the fall for this disgusting misadministration.

  1. Which means the decision was actually made or determinatively advised by Valerie Jarrett, as she was most likely the only 'most senior trusted authority' presiding in watchful defense of the President's political interests as he and Biden campaigned.

    So. Which is it?

Were the "GO" or the "NO GO" orders already in place?

Or were they changed specifically for this 9/11 meeting?

Or were they changed specifically for the Libyan theater?

Or were they changed opportunistically as events unfolded to deny Ambassador Stevens and his detail emergency rescue interdiction?

Was it the dead fish or the mullet queen? Or both?

  2. Why does this not surprise me? Or any of us?

This CinC thinks only of himself and how things will effect him. He would never consider endangering his "image" by launching something which did not guarantee an assured success. From what we've heard/read, he barely sat still and stayed around long enough to say "yes" to the raid to get Bin Laden, had to be nagged and persuaded to say yes to the raid. In fact, (as the story goes) he left the room and Panetta gave the go ahead.

We have no idea if what we heard was true, but it rang true to us simply because of his tendency to never take responsibility for anything.

It seems truly impossible that near 50% of the country still want this yahoo in our White House! And, if he gets voted out, wonder what he will manage to do from November 6 until inauguration of Romney. He could still do a lot of damage.

  3. This may seem rather macabre, but remember when Clinton was first lady, the stories about her hatred and mistreatment of the military personnel guarding her at the WH? Makes me wonder if she or someone else (like BO) didn't have a problem watching our military personnel die. Makes me shudder to think that State watched the whole thing for hours but did not lift a finger to help them.

  4. My understanding is there are more decision making levels to this situation than just the CinC. Some military, some DoS, some CIA, some others too secret to mention.

Can't help but think lower levels of all of these streams may have already been mission operational but were somehow quashed and stood down by highest authority. We need real facts, not PR. We need to be able to trust the probers. Heads need to roll.

  5. Quoting a Reuters report:

"You don't deploy forces into harm's way without knowing what's going on, without having some real-time information about what's taking place," Panetta said.

"This happened within a few hours and it was really over before, you know, we had the opportunity to really know what was happening," Panetta said.

I thought we had video feed for most of this seven hour attack. Why couldn't our military leaders ascertain the size of the attacking force and get some idea of the lay of the battlefield in that time frame? I'm dismayed by his statements.

Correct, Leon, and by your very own logic, you don't deploy a US ambassador as a personal representative of the President and the nation, and his team in harm's way for sensitive negotiations (if that's what was going on) in a chaotic unsecured area with known and proven violent Al Qaeda presence, ...without any kind of nearby cover, endgame, backup, or Plan B in case of trouble...unless you have a rank amateur or incompetent making the decisions...

    3. There is also a basic American principle likely unknown to the Hero of Benghazi that when fellow Americans are in trouble US Presidents do not turn their back on them even when facing the daunting task of getting re elected somehow.

There is probably more than one Military Commander within an hour of Benghazi with a mission to rescue those Americans ''In Extremis'' in their area of operations who along with the Soldiers under their command are enraged at the decision to let Americans die without an attempt to save them.

In Iraq during the Easter Battles on April 9 2004 a local National Guard Unit F202 from Galva responded to another embattled local National Guard unit the 724th Transportation Co out of Bartonville also fighting for their lives on Route Tampa with no other intelligence available on the situation than a column of smoke rising from about where they were last seen. Against hundreds of Al Qaeda fighters, no different than what was faced in Benghazi, a rescue was made although at the cost of two Army Aviators who gave their lives when their Apache gunship was shot down by either missile or RPG.

No military mission is guaranteed success but there is no excuse for an American President to not even try especially when there was in fact not only excellent intel in the form of a real time video feed that showed exactly what was going on in Benghazi but a C130 Specter Gunship on station targeting by laser the mortar team that eventually killed Woods and Doherty and other US Military units an hour away trained and prepared for exactly those circumstances that could have made a difference.

Going to bed after failing to do anything with the fate of 30 Americans unknown and is shameful and not what American Presidents do. That those 30 Americans were largely able to fight their way to safety indicates that timely military intervention would likely have saved at some who died.

Obama's actions and his lies afterward blaming it all on a video are if not impeachable offenses then more than enough reason not to give him another four years.

  6. I can somewhat go with the "there wasn't enough time for any meaningful response" excuse, but this is why I wanted to know more about the "drone" mentioned by the administration itself. Knowing it's capabilities and where it was from and how long it was over the fight. That gives a good idea about what other things could have happened (helios, fast movers, etc.). Also all reporting on this has focused on communications FROM Benghazi nothing about anything to Benghazi. Was anything said to them and if so what and by whom?
One thing for sure this should disprove the meme that Clinton is somehow the "good" participant vs. the "bad" Obama. They are part and parcel of the same (deleted). Hopefully this will take both down for good.
To the American people, our enemies have the measure of this administration, they will be aggressive on ALL fronts, beware.
To the enemy, this administration is NOT the american people.

So if all of the above is correct, who ordered the Navy to stand down, and why? This just keeps getting worse. Add Benghazi to Fast & Furious and you have the bloodiest administration since LBJ.

  10. Fox News is now reporting that the former Navy SEALs twice requested permission to go help Ambassador Stevens, and twice, were told to "stand down." The former SEALs, whose oath demands that they never leave a man behind, went anyway. Those two former SEALs, including Ty Woods and Glen Dougherty, went back to the CIA annex and there, after hours of battle, died. No help was sent, no help was ordered.

We have four Americans dead, an administration that did not want Libya to turn into a failure and consequently, a story concocted that the [non-existant] protest turned ugly due to a video no one, or at least less than a dozen, Americans have ever seen and few every heard of until the Benghazi attack.

Does any of this surprise any of you? If so, let me take you back to the killing of Osama bin Laden. Remember the photo-op of the President sitting in the Situation Room watching, and listening, in real time, the raid on Abbottabad? Did anything strike you odd about that picture? The clothing each of the players were wearing? Obama was wearing golf clothing.

So let me ask you this: what kind of man hits the links knowing he has just sent SEAL Team 6 into hostile territory to kill the most man most hated by Americans? What kind of man is playing golf while our SEALs lift off from Afghanistan, knowing that the mission could go horribly wrong, with the SEALs either being captured or killed? What kind of man had to be called off the golf green in order to show up for the photo-op in the Situation Room?

The U.S. has Quick Reponse Forces that are designed for just such an emergency as Benghazi. Why were they not activated? We have planes that can put a bomb into the eye of a camel, but not take out the Islamic forces that were attacking Americans? THE FORMER SEALS WERE TOLD TO STAND DOWN. Let that sink in. Those orders can only come from the very top. A decision like that is NOT made by, as Hillary put it, some low level security expert.

Americans, your nation is changing, and not for the good. Benghazi sent a message to every one of our FSO that this administration will not have their backs. If this story doesn't break your heart, and make you understand that this administration needs to be relegated to the dust bin of history in January, 2013, nothing will.

I am a conservative, and not particularly a fan of Mitt Romney (who I don't think is conservative enough and am disturbed by his position on Syria) but my God! how much worse will it get if the son of a Kenyan Marxist and a radical communist be allowed to work his will for another four years?

Listening to Mr. Woods, who only wants to know who made the call to not send help to his son, broke my heart. It should break yours, as well. Our FSO are Americans who volunteer for those jobs. We are not a nation that forces citizens to serve, in any capacity. They deserve better than what they are getting under this administration.

God bless, and keep, everyone of them.

  11. Look. Our military does contingency very, very well. For emergency rescue and extraction of a Presidential envoy going into known harms way, the contingency planning is there and the procedural structure, action triggers and preauthorizations for those thresholds are in place as the standing orders these special commands that stand at the ready to do these rescues.

By any reasonable view of the apparent facts, the "known knowns" needed to trigger these plans were learned early in the unfolding crisis. These teams are necessarily created to deploy into chaos operating under contingencies with the expectation they be dynamically improvised.

Our nation's finest were watching this mission under standing orders. Either those standing orders for this specific mission were changed to "No Go" unless "x" approves, or the standing orders at the time were "GO" if "x" occurs.

The behavior says the orders were "NO GO."

Who gave those NO GO orders to whom and when did they give them?

Our FSOs, who willingly put themselves in harm's way for our security, were left to hand out to dry. Why? What was this administration doing that they feared would come out if they pissed off the Libyan government? If the cooperation has such a great relationship with the new Libyan powers, why couldn't we get permission to use their airspace when our FSOs were being murdered? Why were we not allowed visas for our FBI to go into Benghazi for weeks?

If I were currently employed as a FSO, I would be looking into another line of work, knowing this administration will not lift one little finger to help me when the situation on the ground goes to hell.

  12. That two former SEALs went in against orders and saved many lives in the embassy PROVES how wrong Pannetta was. Something could have and should have been done. 13. I cannot even begin to imagine the frustration that some of those military folks felt being told "no go" when they would have/could have rescued fellow Americans.

The "no go" was because Obama and his kind did not want any political fallout if the mission failed (Jimmy Carter must have been on their minds)

And, yea, Diplomad, you are correct - this kind of inaction only encourages more of the crazies.

  15. To paraphrase the notorious Pee Wee Herman: The Mullet Queen was the boss of them. That's what my gut is telling me.

"He Who Shakes Hands Like A Dead Fish" likely spanked the potato back to Valerie Jarrett saying something like: "Just deal with it."

Here's what else my gut it telling me:

Everything that went to the White House in this didn't get past The Mullet Queen. If anything did get to Dead Fish direct it came from the MQ or it was deflected back to the MQ for "coordination."

What needs to be publicly revealed? The standing orders at the time of the incident, and prior, if different. Did special orders exist for Ambassador Stevens mission on 9/11 relative to the established contingencies for emergency interdiction, rescue and extraction capabilities which normally stand at the ready for that theater of operations?

And there's this. An official Turkish Envoy was supposedly there for some apparently clandestine transnational presidential pow-wow with Obama's personal envoy which was being held in a highly unstable and isolated conflict zone, in secret, in the depths of a third-party nation. How weird is that.

Who would know? The WH and the inside players, certainly. Under standard procedure, key intelligence and command structure responsible for that theater of operations also should have also been advised so an umbrella of security, intelligence and emergency response were operative and protectively at the ready.

Unless they didn't know. Unless they weren't told. Under this scenario they are in the dark. Then, only the WH elite structure and a few insiders actually knew. That means the operating command and intelligence structure would only have learned about it because they were surprised in real time by the unfolding events.

There is one likely and central operational nexus between Hill, Joe and Dead Fish: Valerie Jarrett, queen of the castle; The Mullet Queen.

So now a new question: Were the standing interdiction, rescue and extraction contingencies paralyzed by their command having been kept in the dark; by having to secure additional confirmation that indeed official operations were in harms way?

The standing orders in the contingency planning would likely say they could not deploy rescue extraction unless the operation was a confirmed known known meeting the deployment mission requirements.

Gut: Maybe they were never told. Maybe that left them paralyzed, lacking the necessary confirmation there was a qualifying operation to rescue.

In this scenario, with Dead Fish flying around the country, The Mullet Queen was likely the active, intentional and fatal constraint.

If cprrect, in defense of Jarrett, she too was following orders; orders either standing and normal to her ordinary scope authority established by Dead Fish, or she was under orders that were specific to the matter at hand. If it was not her, who? What other would be trusted? Huma Abedin?

Whomever that pivotal actor is, it seems unshakably apparent a horrific and utterly depraved inaction was inflicted on the very best of our best intelligence, diplomatic and military professionals.

Murder by neglect can murder the souls of those involved.

There is eventual price of sociopathy in government. We are ultimately forced to become what we hate.

Ambassador Stevens and those at the ready to rescue and extract him and his detail, and the families of the fallen, all are martyrs sacrificed to what will ultimately be found to be examples of sociopathy. What a terrible way to remind us of the bitter price that must eventually be paid for allowing sociopathy to infiltrate positions of authority in our core institutions, and for good men and women to go along to get along, ignoring the wise counsel of Edmund Burke.

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."

"(The) basic principle is that you don't deploy forces into harm's way without knowing what's going on [with the staged kidnapping]; without having some real-time information about what's taking place [over at the consulate. And that's why we told Woods to stand down]," Panetta told Pentagon reporters.

    1. Panetta is lying. If he cannot or will not accept the assessment of a former Navy Seal then working as a CIA operative who is on the ground... who does he think better able to advise him?

Aside from that, he may be suffering from a lack on knowledge regarding military capability. Typically we hear the pitch about the skills and capabilities of special forces, Seals, and all the other elite forces. Don't misunderstand what I am saying... these people are the best trained, have superior intellect, and are of exceptional skill in many specialized areas. When you need to land on a beach, breach a wall or fortress, or any other dark and scary place having only one way in and are certain only in knowing there is more unkown than is known... that is why we have Marines. We may not be the brightest bulbs, most are taught a single tactic (all together now - forward), we may not have a long shelf life - but give the order and keep out of the way and we will not shirk from our duty.

Panetta is full of crap. He says that the decision was made between him, General Hamm and General Casey. Casey, you will remember, is the clown that said that while the "workplace violence" at Fort Hood was a tragedy, a bigger tragedy would be the loss of (Muslims) diversity in the military.

Jason Chavez claims that General Hamm told him that Hamm was never asked to offer support for Benghazi and that he was not involved in the decision. So who is lying? Hamm, or Panetta? My money is on Panetta who is nothing more than a political animal who is CYAing for the administration, just as Hillary did when she said she accepted full blame.

The fact remains; our FSO were left hanging out to dry and that decision could have only come from one place, the very top. Remember, the Benghazi compound was considered American soil, the attack on it was an act of war and at that point, the can gets kicked all the way to the office of the CIC.

One other thing I would like to point out: when ObL was killed, it was days before the administration was releasing information on that mission. Joe Biden, Dimwit Extraordinair, boldly informed the nation that it was SEAL Team 6 that got the job done. Within weeks, the administration was letting a movie producer have access to sensitive materials about the Abottabad raid. Yet, when the Congress requests the videos/audios of the Benghazi attack, they are being stonewalled. If there was no error on the part of the Administration, Obama would be throwing people under the bus, instead of having his talking heads making snide innuendos about whose is responsible. He would be giving those audios/videos out to make himself look good in an election he runs a real risk of losing.

Ty Woods was a true hero and patriot. He defined orders to try to save the lives of other Americans. He gave his life to do that, and now his father is wanting answers to questions. Sean Smith's mother has repeatedly said that the administration is refusing to give her answers on how her son died. She has even been denied the autopsy report. Why? If I were her, I would have my son's body exumed, and would call a forensic pathologist to do an autopsy and I would release those findings to the nation.

This is as dirty as it gets. Four Americans, who served all of us with honor and bravery, are being used as shields to protect a corrupt administration. It has to end.

  23. Leadership:

At the level of President, the leader is the person responsible for:
-The people he selects to head his major cabinet positions, like State, Intelligence, National Security, and Defense.
-The instructions and policies he gives them on how to prepare for the unexpected, whether it's "Do nothing til you hear from me" or "Take care of whatever it is and I'll back you up" and all the shades of grey in between.
-The general tone expected of them, as exemplified in his personal style and communications, from "Get what you can while the gettin's good" to "Thou shalt not reap personal benefit in any form from public office" and all the shades of grey between those ends of the spectrum.

What we've seen from the top down with Obama, indisputably, is corruption at outrageous levels, with Pay-for-Play is the Rule of the Day!....
"you scratch my back/pay my PAC and I'll take care of you," and "Party hearty at the taxpayer expense while you can,"
"Do unto others and lie about it if caught"
Blame the victim, blame your predecessor, blame the tsunammi, blame anyone but the person who made the poor decision.

...And the subordinates take their behavior cues from the top leader and reflect it in their internal attitudes and behaviors, as shown by the extravagant GSA convention, the Secret Service prostitution scandal, the DoE loan guarantees to non-viable green industries headed by Obama campagn bundlers and contributors bundlers, the lavish and frequent trips to luxury destinations, the Department of (IN)Justice on Fast and Furious...and so many more events and incidents on smaller scales.

...and by the lack of a coherent plan to cover one of our ambassadors activities on the anniversary of the World Trade Center destruction, with no either no "Plan B" to rescue him if things went south, or if there was a plan the lack of spine required to give the "go ahead".

Fish rot from the head, as the proverb goes, and this pResident has corrupted and defiled everything he has touched.

Please, Sir, speak for the public record. Please, for the sake of all who serve, will serve, or wish to serve.

    2. If so, he stands a fair chance of being the next CJCS sometime after Inauguration Day.

  33. Rear Admiral Charles M. Gaouette in command of carrier strike force group in ME being replaced for "inappropriate leadership judgement" according to Stars & Stripes. Isn't it unusual in the middle of a deployment? Navy calls it a "temporary reassignment."

  34. Anyone know more about the alleged pressure over the last few months by EU/UN insiders leaning on the White House to reduce the American military profile in Libya?

It would be interesting to know if the WH made concessions and put policies and orders in place to comply with these alleged EU/UN dictates for a reduced US presence in Libya.

If such indeed occurred and indeed became elemental to the WH strategic policy framework that informs decisions in re Libya, then there are another set of troubling questions to ask.

One of which: Were Ambassador Stevens and his detail sacrificed out of loyalty to cartelized interests in the EU/UN alleged to have dictated policy to reduce the US presence in Libya.

This is why pursuing the rumor of such foreign dictates matter. If true, who is puppetmaster?
