The greatest contribution Governor Romney made in the course of his brilliant debate performance was to make it OK, to make it socially acceptable to question Obama's qualifications to be President of the United States.
When even that purveyor of the most liberal of bromides The New Yorker can say, as did this little blog, that Romney has proven Eastwood correct, you know the political world has seen a Thomas Kuhn-like paradigm shift.
We are now in unchartered territory, ladies and gentlemen. It is no longer just us right-wing "nut jobs" who are free to question the Obama myth.
America and the world have begun to see The One as he is:
His image's head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay. (Daniel 2:31-33)The evil spell has begun to break.
Thank you, Governor Romney. Thank you for liberating so many minds.
I've always thought that Obama's "Brilliance" was a media-generated image sold to a country badly disappointed in the younger Bush. Yet, given that the "brilliant" Obama's academic record seems to be the only secret that American can keep, that Obama disintegrates without a teleprompter, or flies to flinders when faced with something short of utter adulation (viz., Joe the Plumber), I doubt that Obama is anywhere near as smart as he's cranked out to be, and, maybe even more than Dubya Bush, is out of his depth serving as president.
ReplyDeleteNo 'maybe' about it Kepha, Obama has never had a job before that held him accountable for results. I'm not even sure that he ever had a real job before, except for the short stint as a teen.
ReplyDeleteWell, Anonymous, I'll concede that you've hit the nail on the head. The O's the Affirmative Action President, down to not having a single ancestor who made the Middle Passage--indeed, irony of ironies, as the scion of East African Muslims, the O may well have had kinfolk hunting, capturing, castrating, and selling slaves (to the Arabs) long after America's Emancipation Proclamation.
DeleteKepha the animosity toward Bush was a media generated thing. Starting at the election debacle in Florida and continuing till the swearing in of al-'Bama.
ReplyDeleteIt was supposed to be two terms of Gore destroying the country (in the name of CAGW) and then possibly al-'Bama to finish the job.
Was the O (again, see someone who knows Hakka Chinese for what I mean by this) even on the political horizon in 2000?
DeleteAnd, I will agree that the MSM wanted to do all it could to destroy Bush's presidency.
Diplomad,
ReplyDeleteYes, that is what I meant with "entered a god and left a lesser man". The question is whether the change will effect his acolytes or the independants the most. I did not mention the press for they are among the acolytes.
James (and Dip):
ReplyDeleteThe press might be acolytes, but I'm wondering if there aren't any in the Fourth Estate who might also (along with a whole lot of voters) be wondering if their support of Obama has been irresponsible and misguided. We're beginning to see the preference cascade of which Richard Fernandez (Wretchard) writes, might we also see the press begin to rethink the slavish devotion they've rained on this guy for half a decade? I surely hope so. I have a gut feeling the debates might just have opened that door just a little bit. If the second debate is a repeat of the first, things could really turn around. But, as Glenn Reynolds (Instapundit) says, "don't get cocky." F
"The press might be acolytes, but I'm wondering if there aren't any in the Fourth Estate who might also (along with a whole lot of voters) be wondering if their support of Obama has been irresponsible and misguided."
DeleteYou'll see some of the press start to run Obama "hit pieces" if only to salvage some creditability. How many and how much is the question.
I think this is an example of racism, for its absence. Obama has been treated with kid gloves for his entire adult life because of his race. The debate may have been the first time somebody confronted him as simply another adult human being. He couldn't play the race card, either explicitly or implicitly. What was left to do but to stare at his shoes and wait for that damn clock to release him from this public spectacle of humiliation?
ReplyDeleteI think you might well be right. Romney was the first person to treat him as just another human being, nobody special.
