Breaching the Gates of Paris and Memphis: Dhimmis Bow and Scrape as Jihadis Sharpen Knives

Twice, once in 1529 and again in 1683, Christian armies stopped the Ottomans at the Gates of Vienna. In between those dates, in 1571, a multinational Catholic fleet sank the Muslim fleet in the great Battle of Lepanto. Along with the 1492 expulsion from Iberia, and, of course, the even earlier loss at the Battle of Tours in 732, the Muslim world has not forgotten those and the many other defeats since then. Make no mistake. That Muslim world seeks "revenge." The Muslims blame the West for their own failures, and point to their past "greatness" and to alleged past sins of the West as justification to commit atrocities today. Islam's war against the West that began in the seventh century continues--and for the first time since the longest war began, we are losing thanks to self-inflicted wounds.

A little personal anecdote before I get to the gist of today's topic. As mentioned too many times on this humble blog, and as its nine regular readers can attest, I served in Pakistan in the early 1980s. While there my wife was contracted by a local Muslim university to give Spanish classes. They specifically wanted Spain Spanish, and she being specifically from Spain, Spain, my wife was the perfect candidate. They paid her well, usually late, but well. The Diplowife, bored in Islamabad while I singlehandedly was defeating the evil Soviet Empire, "dressed modestly" and went off to instruct her bearded charges. Her thirty or so students were mullahs and aspiring imams. One day, I went to pick her up as she was being stalked by one of the "scholars" (another story, for another day) and happened to ask the head man at the school, "Why the interest in Spanish?" Without hesitation he replied, "We are preparing to take back Andalusia." I advised my wife, who on her mother's side claims descent, as do 25 million other Spaniards, from the great El Cid Campeador, to rethink her choice of occupation. I did not welcome a vengeful visit from a dead El Cid strapped astride his fearsome Babieca. She didn't listen, of course, and consoled herself with lucre, secure in the knowledge that my M-1 and I could deal with any ghostly horseman.

These thoughts come in a jumble as I read about a true horror underway in France where, clearly, the authorities have decided that they do not welcome the spirit of Charles Martel, and insist on exorcising it if it makes itself known. We see them gunning for Marine Le Pen the leader of France's National Front (FN) party who has dared to criticize the presence of so many Muslims in France,
French far-right leader, Marine Le Pen, could face criminal charges for inciting racism . . .  French authorities opened a case against Mrs Le Pen in 2011 after she likened the sight of Muslims praying in the streets to the Nazi occupation of France. As a European Parliament member (MEP), she enjoyed immunity from prosecution. However, this protection was removed by a European parliamentary committee in a secret vote this week.
There is so much wrong with this little excerpt from the BBC report, so very much. We see the catch-all "far-right leader" line; the same one used when mentioning the EDL in England or the Tea Party in the US. What is it about her party that makes it "far right"? The BBC, like the rest of the lefty media everywhere in the world, doesn't tell us; it uses the term as a handy epithet to remove sympathy from the person or party under assault. As I did with the EDL, I read what the FN proposes as French domestic and foreign policy, and while as a conservative American I would not necessarily agree with it all, e.g., it advocates fairly robust public assistance for certain sectors, it does not strike me as anything extreme, much less "far right." The FN has a healthy skepticism about the EU; wants to preserve France's sovereignty and culture; has serious questions about France's immigration and public assistance policies; worries about the dramatic rise in crime; and sees Israel as having the sovereign right of self-defense. OK. We see that this leader of a "far right" party is being brought up on charges for comparing crowds of Muslims, most of them foreign, praying in the streets to the presence of foreign Nazi occupation troops. OK. So a "far right" leader doesn't like Nazis . . . I see. Does this mean that the French socialists and the BBC have finally realized that Nazis were leftists? Or is there some doubt about whether the insulted parties are the Nazis or the Muslims? Is Pétain back in charge?

How convenient that the establishment politicians can target and try to neutralize a prominent opposition leader--the FN draws almost 20% of the vote--by using the courts and wrapping themselves in the rainbow flag of multiculturalism. France becomes Venezuela? No dissent allowed to the official line.

Dear friends, before we get too critical and mocking of the French Republic, we see something similar afoot right here in our own beloved and horribly misgoverned American Republic. I am not even talking about the use of the IRS and the DOJ to target conservatives. This is a new affront to our traditions and values. Josh Gerstein of Politico lets us know that in Tennessee we see some spectacular lunacy by the US Attorney for the eastern district of that fine state,
A U.S. attorney in Tennessee is reportedly vowing to use federal civil rights statutes to clamp down on offensive and inflammatory speech about Islam. Bill Killian, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee, was quoted by the Tullahoma News this week suggesting that some inflammatory material on Islam might run afoul of federal civil rights laws.
Killian pointed to a recent controversy where a local Tennessee politician posted a photo of a man aiming a shotgun at the camera with the caption "How to wink at a Muslim."
"We need to educate people about Muslims and their civil rights, and as long as we’re here, they’re going to be protected," Killian [said] . . . "If a Muslim had posted ‘How to Wink at a Christian,’ could you imagine what would have happened?" Killian asked, according to the newspaper.

The Department of Justice did not respond Friday to a question about what guidelines it draws concerning offensive speech and Islam, or whether the department believes that civil rights statutes could be used to stifle criticism of Islam.
Think about that for a bit. It is so repellent, it is hard to comment rationally. It would seem, according to this fine, fine "law giver" of the Holder variety, that other folks such as Pamela Geller, Daniel Pipes, and on and on, including this humble blog and its nine readers, could be brought up on charges.  I, furthermore, would note that had "a Muslim posted ‘How to Wink at a Christian’" nothing would have happened: Mr. Killian's office would have done nothing, and had it done something, a legion of lawyers would have defended, pro bono, that Muslim's right to freedom of expression.

In the 1930s, it took people with a clear vision and guts to speak up against the Nazi and Soviet threats to the West. Now, we need people to speak up again for the values of the West; people who understand that in the U.S. our Constitution is not a suicide pact, and that we, the French, the English and the Swedes, for example, have the right to national defense from a murderous totalitarian ideology that passes itself off as just another religion. We are being led by a bunch of cowardly Dhimmis. Do they really believe that nonsense about how tolerant the Muslims once were in Spain and elsewhere towards Christians and Jews? When will our "leaders" realize that we are dealing with an enemy who considers any place where Islam once was or now is, as part of the Muslim world. That, in fact, the entire world belongs to Islam, and those of us who are not Muslim are to be converted, enslaved, or killed.

One of my favorite books, for many reasons, is Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus. It is a work of true genius. It is also one of the most famous books that is hardly read; most people rely for their "knowledge" of the story on a stream of horrible Hollywood depictions of this masterpiece. One character in the book always has stayed with me; one who does not get much if any attention in the filmed versions. That is Safie, a woman fleeing the oppression of the Ottoman empire for the relative freedom of Europe at the end of the 18th century, and who seeks refuge with the kindly De Lacey family. Mary Shelley, two hundred years ago, barely out of her teens, recognized that for all its problems, especially for women in that era, western civilization was still better and freer than its Islamic counterpart, yet our political class cannot do the same. It cannot stand up for our values and say "Enough!" In fact, it does something even worse than that failure; when it acts, as we see in France and Tennessee, it  does so against people with the courage to stand up against the totalitarians.

We are going to lose this fight, and it won't be the Muslims who defeat us.

Not at all a sure thing. You are certainly correct that IF we lose it will be a self-inflicted defeat, but I do retain some hope that America will follow its traditional course of action and eventually do the right thing after all the other things fail...

The miseducated display a magnificent truculent, moronic, unteachableness. Is that a word? If not, just made it up, it 'feels good' so it must be OK.

You present facts in logical, mild, manner? You insult them. They're akin to concrete, all mixed up and set. Attemting to change that leftist maleducated mindset will prove to be as hitting concrete, it'll only get you scrapes at best.

Our friends' seventeen year old son cannot stand school, albeit a supposedly conservative religious one. Good student and athlete, he rightly told his parents, the books are all communist propaganda. With which his parents agreed.

About nineteen years ago, we obtained an exit visa from the aparats of the Peoples' Free and Glorious Democratic Republic of Rhode Island and promptly skedaddled it to 'down here Flahda' as Rhode Islanders say. Sole regret: having not moved sooner.

Shortly after arriving, friends' thirteen year old showed us their 'history' book. One page about some dead white guys who kept slaves and were very bad because they were rebellious, and six-thousand-eighty-five-hundred-skillion pages on the Civil Rights Movement. Well, I'm exaggerating, it was only a million pages...

As the Czech newspaper editorialist said four plus years ago, a nation can survive Obama but not those who put him in office.

A lifelong friend, recently retired Army aviator now residing in Mississippi, recently wrote with the exciting news that a prospective mayoral candidate is one self-renamed Chockwe Lumumba, the surname doubtless familiar to all here as a fine, upbuilding, peaceful, agrarian reformer whose reign is rightly recalled with great fondness.

Chockwe Lumumba's party is the New Afrikan (sic) Republic, once named as a terror group during less 'fundamentally transformed' eras. His plaudits include being under suspicion for the 1970s murder of a Jackson, MS, area police officer. Impeccaple CV, that. He's a shoe-in.

There is as you say no reasoning with them. None. Sometimes I have fun with them in blog comment sections beneath articles by telling them that when they can arrange facts in logical manner and present them in a complete, grammatically correct sentence free from the tiresome leftist regressions to insult, invective, taunts, threats, scare tactics, and moralistic scoldings, their posts might enjoy a scintilla of credibility. Until such time, they won't.

That of course makes 'em mad, but at least they go away. For a while. But as with the villain in alla then Jason vs. summer camp chickies films, they come back. And back. And back.

People are drawing analogies to the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

That's how you gain influence and change a society your way. Terrorism is not very productive … It would be better, if you are an Islamist, to work through the existing institutions."

    Daniel Pipes

"in 1683, Christian armies stopped the Ottomans at the Gates of Vienna."

And the date in 1683? September 11th. 9-11 was the restarting of a war that really never ended, only went underground for hundreds of years. You see, Islamists are, if nothing else, very, very patient in trying to achieve the Caliphate.

And Daniel Pipes, someone I trust for the truth of what is current events with Islamists, just outlined the very tactic of American Muslims. No one ever said that Nidal Hassan was recently radicalized. Oh, a few self-proclaimed journalists tried to made the connection, but the truth of the matter is that Nidal Hassan was a fundamentalist Muslim, much like every other Muslim in the U.S. and he did exactly what is being preached by every radical Imam in this nation; become part of the establishment in the name of Allah.

Diplomad, forty some odd years ago I had a good friend that was a Catholic priest. Outside of his calling, his passion was world history. We had long discussions about Europe in the 40's and Southeast Asia in the 60-70's. But one day he told me that it was not Communism we should fear, but Islam. Now, being the good Catholic kid who grew up in an Italian/German/Irish neighborhood, I had never heard of Islam. But even then, my interest was not sparked. Not until I read the book, Among The Believers. That was a turning point. Since then, nothing I have read has given me any hope that Islam has progressed since the 7th century, for all the reformation calls from Dr. Zudhi Jasser, et al.

I am not surprised at the actions of Bill Killian as I believe it is part of the agenda of this administration. Let me explain why: after the fiasco that was Benghazi, President Obama addressed the United Nations. He was already aware of the cause of the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi, but wanted to misdirect the attention to his failed Libyan policies. In front of the U.N. Obama said "The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam." Now, most assumed, or were told by the press, that that statement was in reference to an obscure, little known YouTube video. But what I heard was not that, but was actually a shot across the bow to anyone in the U.S. that would dare speak out against the evils of Islam. What I heard was an American president saying that while it is politically correct to go after other faiths, especially those of the Christian tenets, and yes, even his own administration will violate the First Amendment when it comes to Christian beliefs, he will not tolerate any disparaging remarks about Islam, or the prophet of Islam. The administration of Obama had just thrown down its gauntlet. Late night so-called comedians are free to make nasty jokes about the Pope, and that will be considered freedom of speech, but any comments about Islam, or its prophet, will henceforth be off limits and anyone who engages in such will be severely reprimanded, one way or another. Was Obama's comment simply mere pandering to the Islamic nations so he could build his legacy on a ME policy that is rapidly turning into an unmitigated disaster, or was he really giving us his true feelings as someone whose sympathies lie with Islam?

Will the future hold DoJ prosecutions for those like Andy McCarthy, Daniel Pipes, Pam Geller, Robert Spencer and Mark Steyn and others who are sounding the alarm bells?

Tears behind the laughter. I have always long held that Americans take a long time to act, but when they do it is awesome. I have always counted on the "heartland" when the coasts go all prideful and looney misreading hard working God fearing folk as "stupid", "uninformed".

That thinking is very wobbly now. Now, I am scratching for hope. You can see a thin thread of it in communities in tornado battered Oklahoma. Another thin thread in Georgetown University Alum and the Newman Society finally completing the petition to remove Catholic association with Georgetown University.

It is a "big deal" what is happening in our country and others. And the brutality of it in the broad daylight in a "civilized" country with neutered onlookers does not seem to be shocking enough. And Tennessee is just another example of how deeply it runs. Perhaps the good people of Tennessee will act.

    Despair and failure are knocking.

The Republicans and assorted conservatives are sort of Mensheviky, but right now it's all we've got. And us. And as the good nuns say "we will hope for your hope".

  17. We've got a president who bows to Arab potentates so is it any wonder we have U.S. Attorneys who would bow and scrape to the Islamic bullies who have proclaimed themselves the sole arbiters of Muslims in America?

Although I live in rural Missouri I've met lots of Muslims, mostly because the Ft. Scott, KS community college was (and maybe still is) a draw for English as Second Language students. Way back then I was in the Student Senate and we were going to have a celebration of all the different countries the students came from. Some Arab students came to us and wanted to put up a display on Palestine and were turned down as Palestine wasn't a country (and some thirty-odd years later still isn't.) Despite that on the day of the event while all the legitimate countries were represented by a single table of items and photos the Arab students put together three tables under a banner proclaiming Palestine. Several of our members, including me, thought we should have them take down the banner but the college thought it would cause more problems than just leaving it up would so we were outvoted. I'm still upset that I didn't do more to protest but I was much less outspoken back then.

  19. I have a good friend (maybe not so more as time goes on) I met in Grad school who is a dyed-in-the-wool, self-proclaimed atheist and liberal.

Since they consider the West and Western institutions to be the cause of society's ills, they are logically boxed into supporting anybody who opposes it--hence the bizzare affinity so many in liberal-land seem to have with radical Islamic movements, the Paleostinians, etc. etc.

I once asked him about this a few years ago and he said "Well, Pat Robertson is more a threat to my way of life than some Mullah overseas." So it's a combination of blinkered tunnel vision, combined with their ideology ueber-alles that takes them down the path of embracing, or at least tolerating, anything that attacks traditional western values.

Lib reactions to the assorted scandals right now, from Benghazi to the IRS are also a window into their thought processes. Apart from a few who still seem to have a basic ability to reason, they really don't care if their side abuses the Constitution (what Ezra Klein called that "old document nobody understands.")

For Libs, any ends justifies the means. And the GOP is still trying to "play by the rules," an increasingly meaningless idea in the current political environment and one that will cost us if something doesn't change.

    My $0.02, anyway.

Well, maybe it's your friends favorite pundits who've anointed Robertson as my "Pope"

  20. The thing that always struck me as odd about the whole Islam versus the West conflict is how the Islamists are still sore about the Crusades of roughly 900 years ago. YOU GUYS WON! The Crusader kingdoms lasted (according to Wikipedia) a maximum of 193 years (1098 - 1291), and didn't exactly have a lasting impact on the region. Yet the Islamic world is still bothered by the Crusades. Sheesh...

Arkansas - I'm pretty sure most of the intracontinental states ( with the possibles exceptions of those just NE of the Arch) "should remain" Republican. Not that it matters far as Arkansas goes - we elect Democrats expecting they'll vote (and legislate - as they usually do) as Republicans.

    2. Interesting and funny comment and reference, Arkie my friend. Reminds one of the famous observation to a degree, "this too shall pass", seven or eight generations from the Confederacy, or so, elapsed time.

  28. Indeed. The progressives want to use the sword of Islam to cut down the laws of Christianity. They of course hope they will still stand themselves after that.
This flawed reasoning is nicely phrased in "A Man for All Seasons", in a conversation between William Roper and Thomas More.
William Roper: So, now you give the Devil the benefit of law!
Sir Thomas More: Yes! What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil?
William Roper: Yes, I'd cut down every law in England to do that!
Sir Thomas More: Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned 'round on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country is planted thick with laws, from coast to coast, Man's laws, not God's! And if you cut them down, and you're just the man to do it, do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake!

  29. Why I Support Hezbollah, Iran and Russia

Although others may differ, it's why I support Putin's reason for support of loathesome Assad. Although, Putin has actually the specific reason, that the b'tard pious style islamics are in his backyard, and he doesn't want things easier for them getting to screw with Russia or satellites, anymore than now.

  30. "We are going to lose this fight, and it won't be the Muslims who defeat us. "

No, "we" are not going to lose. Those who do not fight will be the ones who lose. As long as you still fight, you haven't yet lost.

This was the lesson that George Washington left to us from the Revolution.

In that vein, I give you Marine Corporal Steven J. Crowley.
They got him, but another...me...took his vacated place as soon as I was able.

Never stop fighting...it is the fight that makes us free.

Tyrants must know that their tyranny has a cost in blood that cannot be avoided. Sooner or later they run out of people to stick between themselves and the muzzles of the enemy's guns...or we do. Whoever runs out of people first is as God wills it.
