Good or Bad for the Jews

New Jersey's Rino Rhino

Well, it's official.

I give up on New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

I hung on to the belief, well-beyond all rational limits, that he was a very clever Republican. That he was a good Republican. I said kind things about his performance at the RNC and thought--along with Ann Coulter, BTW-- that maybe, just maybe he would make a good president.

I belatedly realized towards the end of the last election campaign (here and here, for example) that perhaps my faith in him had been misplaced.

It is now official: I was wrong big time about him. He is just another northeastern machine politician, who admittedly did whoop the teachers' union, out to do whatever is expedient.

His decision not to name a Republican replacement to the late Senator Lautenberg is beyond comprehensible in terms of the good it could have done for the nation in the battle over Obama care, IRS, Benghazi, etc., in the Senate--where every vote counts. He would have given a good Republican a leg up in the 2014 mid-terms and might have sealed a GOP seat for New Jersey.

Instead, he did a McCain, i.e., seek the approval of the liberal establishment, by calling for an expensive special election to fill Lautenberg's seat. Would a Democrat have done that? Doubt it very much.

Did the lap band make him do it?

  1. Sadly, I have to agree. There is an increasing tendency on the part of establishment GOP members to win the approval of Democratic Party interest groups and constituencies; we see this with the developing disaster of the Amnesty, er "Immigration Reform" bill.

Hopefully the House will be able to head that one off, but ultimately I'm not optimistic. We are increasingly a nation of sheep, led by idiots.

    1. Speaking as a former consular officer, I'm thinking of suggesting to my Congressional delegation that, in passing the immigration reform, they ought to make a provision to provide every consular officer overseas and every immigration inspector at every US port of entry a rubber stamp to imprint the word "sucker" on the forehead of every poor zhlub who chose to immigrate the legal way.

What made you think Christie would be any good in the first place? This is an honest question.

I live here in New Jersey (also known as California East for its insipid politics) so I have more reason to pay attention to the Potemkin Conservative. Right from his first campaign he showed nothing to establish his financial sensibility. When asked about things like that he would respond by saying he went to law school because "math was hard". Christie's action here is not surprising in the least. At no time has he demonstrated a willingness to put take risks that could cost him political capital with his foes.

Sadly, he will be the lesser of the two evils come time for the gubernatorial election. Bad as Christie is, he is still somewhat better than Corzine was and will likely be somewhat better than the Democratic candidate. As usual, I will probably vote for the Libertarian candidate simply because I cannot stomach the thought of pushing the button for either of the other two.

A columnist named Paul Mulshine of the Star Ledger has spent years writing excellent dissections of Christie's foibles. If you are in a morbid state of mind regarding this lost state they are worth reading.

  3. It would not surprise me if Christy went full Monty and made an official switch from R to D. With his disregard for the potential good he could have done (but didn't in favor of self interest), I see no way he could be accepted as a Republican presidential candidate.
I recommend keeping a pair of sunglasses at the ready - just in case.

    1. Yours is the most horrifying comment I have ever had on my little blog . . .

    2. Book it. There's no way Christy gets the Republican nomination - he's going "D" in 2016 as a "third way" candidate.

Arrogant Chris Christie is all about what Chris Christie (krispy kreme)wants. He couches his personal power moves -- I'll do what I need to do for the people of NJ, this is the best for the people, ad nauseum -- confident in the fact that the people love him for being who he is. He believes his own press.

Conservatives want nothing to do with him. He will become a Dem because he will have no other choice. And he will do it when the Dems no longer have a use for him. Chris Christie will be outplayed in the end.

His reputation will be that of the other "maverick" John McCain -- give them their due for who they were, not what they grow up to be.

    1. Kind of like Specter. Flopped over to the D's just when they needed him to prevent a filibuster of Obamacare, then the very next election stabbed him in the back by supporting his Primary opponent.

And all these other RINOs refuse to learn the lesson...good, the sooner they get punked the sooner we can get Conservatives in place.

  5. He is far from perfect, yet he is far better than any Democrat alternative. And I will never thank him enough for the spanking he put on the teacher's unions in Jersey. Those unions must grind their teeth in hatred when they see him hob nobbing with Obama, who would otherwise be their go to man.

  6. Well, I, as well as you and others, are seeing the government thuggery happening in warp speed. It's so frustrating to talk to those who have no clue of what's happening. I have never trusted the news media; if I hear something that doesn't make sense, I look it up.
I know of companies, who are in the medical business, publicly being in favor of the new health care only because they know the Liberal thugs will demonize them and not let them play in the game. Everyone who wants to fight for freedom for this country are dropping like flies only because they are being publicly targeted by the thugs.
Facts don't seem to matter to a lot of liberal citizens. What happened to teaching critical thinking?
Seems Chris Christy is in this for himself; he's become dependent on the "big thug government".

  7. This whole day's news smells like that stuff that occasionally hits fans. And it appears not even standing under Niagra Falls would suffice as a hygienic enough shower.

The Belle of Benghazi's Talking Points advising anybody on National Security gives me the severest case of the heebie jeebies I've ever had in my life. And I've had some serious heebie jeebies I'm here to tell ya.

If there's one bright spot (so far - and I only express this with supreme reluctance) AG Holder has yet to resign.

Now before I cause anybody to puke all over their monitors ponder on this - Holder is the gift that keeps on giving.

    1. Rice and Power, the evil twins, the darlings of tyrants everywhere.

The slow go approach to resolving the wrongs done to this country is no match for the warp speed of damage being done by this Administration. Holder and Obama are counting on this.

Holder should be on his way to trial. Lerner and the others should be fired. Power should be denied confirmation.

Drip drip only works with an investigative press and a concerned citizenry. We have neither.

    2. Well far as the "investigative" press and that segment of the citizenry goes - you are correct of course.

A 'possible bright spot' might be I noticed today - Independents appear to be en masse, losing their hopey changeys. If one can believe the (some) polls.

  8. The reason why the leftist media loves people like McCain and Christie is because they know they'll be easy to either beat or co-opt.

  10. Politicians like Christie and McCain, and functionaries like the ghastly Rice and Powers are only Dem or Repub in a bumper-sticker kind of way. They are actually members of what Codevilla called The Ruling Class.

Sarah Palin was NOT 'ruling class', being so unfortunate to have not gone to the right schools or made friends with the right people. That is why she was treated so viciously.

    1. I think you're right about Sarah Palin--although I also admit I'm a little leery of her Pentecostalism.

When the Washington media jumped on her about Russia's proximity to Alaska, I shut up a whole teachers' lounge at Leftie lunch hour in my school when I pointed out that she was right, and that our prestige media showed that for them, "the rest of the world" is the nicer parts of Europe and perhaps some of Latin America, too. Either that, or they forgot that the world is round.

@Mr. Mad: When you took the Foreign Service Exam, did they have a question on the three countries with which America shares borders?

  11. What has Obama got on Christie? It almost feels like there is something going on there. A Republican gov of a heavily Dem state who used to go after teacher's union and media has been muted and mutated..er.. by charm offensive (heh) from Obama.. why or how?

  13. What took you so long? Christie is a blowhard whose arrogance is only matched by Obama.

There are some who think Obama is grooming Christie to run against Hillary in 2016 because Obama secretly despises the Clintons.
