Trump at the Finland Station?

Before I start this post, let me apologize for it.

It will prove somewhat rambling and disconnected. The events of this day have jumbled my thought processes, leaving me angry, depressed, and just sad over the state of my country. I suffer a deep, deep sense of betrayal which I cannot shake. This post will violate my cardinal rule about posting: wait 24 hours, or even 48, before offering up thoughts on fast-moving events. I will violate that rule, at my own peril, but I have to write something before I sulk off to bed and a likely sleepless night.

Another little warning: I have no secret sources of reliable information. I get my information from our despicable CCP-style mass media, with all its censorship and deliberate distortions, and from reading a wide variety of commentators on the internet, good, bad, indifferent, left and right, and then reach my own conclusions--a risky proposition, but, there you have it.

Watching President Trump address the massive gathering in DC today, I thought back to my university days when I read Edmund Wilson's, To The Finland Station. The edition I owned had a dramatic cover drawing depicting Lenin addressing adoring throngs gathered to receive him at Petrograd's famous train station upon his return to Russia in April 1917, after nearly 17 years in exile. That image stayed with me over the years as a classic example of the melding of theater and politics. As noted, it came back watching Trump in DC. I don't want to push the analogy too far, but the subsequent televised images of a portion of the crowd besieging the Capitol and other government buildings also conjured in my mind the attack on the Winter Palace, the storming of the Bastille, Yeltsin on a tank before the Russian parliament building, the German Spartacist uprising of 1918-19, the . . . oh, well, you get it.

I had a hard time believing this was the USA.

No doubt some "attackers" consisted of infiltrated BLM/Antifa thugs. I, however, cannot in good conscience blame it all on a "false flag" operation by those despicable and violent Communists. The fact that the "invaders" caused little damage, and, for example, did not burn the place down, indicates that there were few Antifa types.

For the past several years, especially since the election of President Trump, the so-called progressives, more accurately known as Communists, have striven to create "revolutionary conditions" in the US and throughout the West, in general. They promoted and justified violence as a political instrument. They took over the schools and universities; and they came to dominate the mass media, Hollywood, and the high tech enterprises, nearly all aspects of government, be it on a national or local level, the courts, and even the police--the blue are blue, so what do you back when you back the blue? The prog blue, that's what. Was there any justification for the police shooting in the Capitol?

The progs formed an alliance not unlike that of the original National Socialists, aka Nazis, between street thugs, public bureaucrats, racial-theory mountebanks, and the big money class. As I have written many times, in their relentless pursuit of power, the progs spread misery and hopelessness as far and wide as possible. Joy and fun were assaulted; faith and family values ridiculed; everything must be political! The middle class and the little enterprises must be crushed: the productive jobs exported; regulations of all sorts implemented to strangle what small businesses remained; no independent sources of power. The fake COVID-19 "pandemic" with its absurd lock-down provided a wonderful opportunity to reverse the gains made under Trump in restoring the economy and fomenting American independence. As part and parcel of their grand plan, of course, the progs undertook massive electoral fraud of the type we saw in the November 2020 elections, and in yesterday's Georgia Senate run-offs.

Well, they succeeded. The left succeeded. Indeed.

They created "revolutionary conditions."

They, however, might have made one mistake.

The revolution is not coming from their side. It's coming from the "populist-right," from the MAGA crowd fed-up, and tired of having their livelihoods destroyed, their freedoms vaporized, and the glue of the nation dissolved.

The left, as noted, promoted and justified violence in the pursuit of political ends; that left might well come to regret this.

The actions today in DC will have many and unforeseen ramifications. In the short-run, they will ensure the defeat of the electoral challenge to the Biden theft. The mood in DC will shift against the MAGA crowd, and these events might give the cowards the cover they always wanted not to resist the theft. In the long-run, however, I think something has changed in a fundamental way. I can't yet describe it, but something seems happening "out there," something that could result in a very different America than what the progs seek to create.

I will leave it at that. Don't know how much sense I am making.

Again, my apologies.

  1. Yes, you’re right. You sit and watch the reaction to the marches and the destruction from BLM/Antifa last summer and the hands-off and sympathethic approach by the politicians, media, and police vs the approach now. The double standards delayed charges rioting, destruction with repeated catch and release(but only after severe distruction/provacation night after night in Portland with pictures and booking photos documented and these guy/gals(?) back on the street the next day for more of the same with NO repercussions. And here the immediate NatGuard, DC Pol, and Cap Pol called in with arms and Proud Boy leader arrested for prior charge of destroying a BLM banner, no less—not even burning a building, business, destroying a statute, etc. Totally two different classes of treatment under the law, in the media, on the social media, etc and I think the silent majority is beginning to reach the boiling point because they see they a truly framed and there seems to be no way to act within the law to seek redress. States won’t enforce the voting laws (won’t allow observers, etc) so fair votes are out. Fair media is out with Twitter, Facebook, and the Nat Press. I feel I not longer have any representation or voice anywhere. Sad.

  2. If the voting system isn't reformed, this is going to happen again and again. When election night results show a strong lead for one candidate and then a day later "well... it reversed.", what are people to expect?
I went to bed election night convinced that Trump had too big of a lead to lose.

As you said, we'd never suggest other countries run their elections like this.

    1. But these states run by Democrats at the local levels now don’t want the voting laws changed there and as long as things are rigged and the Dems control the counting, nothing will change. As they’ve figured out: it’s the person that counts the votes, that counts and the Democrats have worked to try to corner the elections and voting offices and the DA offices at the local level where they can begin to exert control that will lead to longterm entrenched changes because if you can gain control of the vote and how the law is applied, you go a long way to altering the society to your will—forget the constitution, rights, etc.

This is what I learned today watching the MSM react to the news from Washington, DC.
    OK. Kenosha may have burned.
    Minneapolis may have been trashed.
NYC may have hosted a Liberal looting spree.
Portland may be the home of daily riots.

But to have citizens enter the Capital, the Holy of Holies in the American civic religion was the worst thing that could have happened.

The American people need to know their place, and it's not in the Capitol.

  5. I posted this elsewhere this am in response to the BBC finally seeing "terrorism".

The BBC calls it terrorist?! Now they see terror? NOW? They are scared. The depth of 'just plain had enough' by normal law abiding Americans is at the breaking point. Yes those who breached the Capitol and did what they did committed felonies and they will be easily identified and prosecuted, not immediately bailed out of jail by employees of our incoming vice president. I saw some people "occupy" the spot where the Speaker of the House one year ago stood in full view and tore her copy of the State of the Union in half. We saw it and we remember it. Year after year of the left committing mayhem and we normals just obey the law and complain to no avail. Leftists becoming heroes, get gigs in Hollywood, or even elected to Congress...and we just obey the law and complain to no avail. We get arbitrarily locked down with no rhyme or reason sometimes while others get to maintain their livelihoods right across the street. We obey and "back the blue" only to see police stand down while our businesses and cities are looted and burned. Yet we obey the law and complain and only one man hears us and listens and he has been under coordinated assault by the opposition political party, some in mine, and all the main stream "free press". He is deeply flawed, like us, and we have watched this coordinate insurgency everyday for four years. We remember every day of it.

Day after day year after year and sometimes decade after decade we watch as one side riots loots and burns and even kill police and they now run government. We normals obeyed the law but now we are angry at what oligarchs and media censors and plundering pols and Deep State leeches have done to our country and culture. We see all of it including this last 'election'. We now know we cans strike back fast if need be and do so all over the country if needed. Washington-listen to us. Governors and mayors do the same. Fix our institutions. Enough. Enough. Enough.

Before the election I read many say that all Trump supporters needed to go to re-education camps or be eliminated. I chuckled at that at first, but now I think, who knows how this will be used against us. It made me dreadfully sad and disheartened that my President stoked the fires. I have no doubt he is hurt by the steal but a person must rise above this if they are to be a good leader and Trump was not a good leader yesterday. That saddens me something fierce.

Capitol police opened the barricades; none of the MAGA crowd stormed anything.

Unfortunately, that's why we're in this situation. The right are too afraid to storm anything.

I will predict, though, that once the communists have cemented control, they will no longer have any use for Antifa/BLM and their ilk.

  10. President Trump's election was not stolen. OUR election was stolen! And thus ended democracy in the US.

When honest Democrats (there are some) and Republicans watched the theft of the election and did nothing, their behavior was similar to the French & English in the 1930s watching Hitler remilitarize the Rhineland and yet doing nothing. There will be consequences.

No-one can predict how long it will take for those consequences to emerge (probably years), or how devastating they will be, but the certainty of consequences is unavoidable.

For the present, I am now a "Sanctuary" individual. The US has no President after Jan 20; there is no Congress with the Mandate of Heaven to pass laws.

And yes, the distinction is important. Democracy is an undefinable term coined by mid 19th century Marxists.
I wish we would stop using the word.

If any on the right are true to the cause, there will be no more participation in the election system and we will simply no longer vote. It has proven itself to be a self-immolating act and to continue to try and change things with the ballot box would be the definition of insanity.

It is also time to lay low. Communists love persecuting, and they will do it en masse when given the chance and guess what? We're it!

  13. I keep thinking of the words of the British general Edward Spears, describing his feelings in the aftermath of Munich:

"Like most people, I have had my private sorrows, but there is no loss that can compare with the agony of losing one’s country, and that is what some of us felt when England accepted Munich. All we believed in seemed to have lost substance.

The life of each of us has roots without which it must wither; these derive sustenance from the soil of our native land, its thoughts, its way of life, its magnificent history; the lineage of the British race is our inspiration. The past tells us what the future should be. When we threw the Czechs to the Nazi wolves, it seemed to me as if the beacon lit centuries ago, and ever since lighting our way, had suddenly gone out, and I could not see ahead."

I try to comfort myself by remembering that it was only two years after Munich that Britain demonstrated its magnificent resistance to Nazi conquest. Perhaps the United States of America will similarly rediscover its spirit?

    1. Aftermath of Munch? Acceptance of Beijing Biden's electoral fraud is actually much closer to what Jolly Olde Englande did in the aftermath of the German remilitarization of the Rhineland in 1936. Hitler's forces openly flaunted the Versailles Peace Treaty, and the English & French did ... nothing. They simply sighed & accepted this clear breach. Historians have later suggested that the failure of the Allies to act on this blatant breach of the Treaty encouraged Hitler to even more brazen acts which culminated in WWII.

Look at the time-scale. The Allies failed to act in 1936. It was 4 years later before Germany invaded France, and 9 years later until the defeat of Germany.

There are obvious differences in the situation then and now, but we should take note of the fact that it can take years to work through the consequences of failure. When the US Occupying Political Class collectively assented to gross electoral fraud, they failed as surely as the English failed at the Rhineland -- and the consequences over the next decade are likely to be as devastating. Remember, by the end of WWII, England had lost its pole position in the world, and was well on the way to losing its Empire On Which The Sun Never Set.

  14. I have read your site for years. Rarely commented. I am not an American, and I'd appreciate your assessment of the US election as if you were observing an election in another oligarchy in your old US State Dept role. I am of the view that the US lost its republican governance in 2008 and that the oligarchy took over then. I am also (most unfortunately) in agreement with Angelo Codevilla about your next ten years. 1. Thank you for your comment. I have monitored several elections overseas. I could never label US elections as free and fair. They are governed by rules set up in a very different time; those rules do not work in a large modern country with a huge population that moves frequently. The system is set up for fraud and manipulation.

    2. Thank you for the reply. The internal view within the strategic community from this region (Oceania/South East Asia rim) concerning the validity of your recent may be right or wrong. Which is now irrelevant.

That view is that Trump actually won it and was defrauded of it, that Biden is merely the oligarchy's Wayang kulit puppet for Harris, and that a civil conflict similar to Columbia's 'La Violencia' is now inevitable. What is surprising us is the rate of phase change, being driven by the oligarchy trebling down on every factor which will accelerate the descent into communal violence. The proof of this is seen in the current tech monopoly purges and rapidly escalating demonisation (from an already very high baseline) of political opposition.

This region being this region (many here are culturally attuned to conspiracy views) this is seen as evidence of PRC influence. I don't ascribe to that very much, the pattern is of 'new' oligarchists without any of self-imposed control mechanisms found in South East Asian oligarchies to stabilise governance-by-oligarchy.

My husband and I were stationed at Embassy Jakarta for the Bush/Gore election. That was just after the Suharto dictatorship had ended and they were taking their first steps toward democracy. At the big election reception, we were of course telling them to follow the US example. When the evening ended with no result, I was mortified. But we told all our Indonesian contacts "well, even though the results are unclear now, we have a legal, constitutional process to resolve this. We aren't like some 3rd world country where they riot in the streets if it doesn;t turn out the way they want." So Bush and Gore file their lawsuits, hanging chads are examined and counted and the courts render a decision. Gore took it badly, but Bush was confirmed as President.

Well, that is no longer true. Even in 2000, Gore only wanted to recount in heavily Democratic counties until they "found" enough votes for him. Many on the left never accepted the Bush presidency. And of course, in 2016 they didn't steal big enough for HIllary, so we have spent the past 4 years with the left screaming that the Trump presidency was illegitimate.

It is clear that we no longer have a Constitutional Republic. We have a corrupt, kleptocratic, fascist tyranny. I have been stuck in the US since the pandemic struck, caring for a brother with health issues, but I've got to get back to Spain where I have residency (altho' they have ingrained issues of their own...)

  15. All avenues to redress grievance have been crushed. All the forces of the enemy have joined together in what appears to be an unassailable phalanx. Professional government, media and academia are rolling over a hapless, virus-fearing population. But to stretch the analogy just a bit further, there is a reason why the phalanx is no longer a battlefield tactic - combat is no longer hand-to-hand due to stand-off weapons like the rifle. In a telling move, several discussions have moved from simple outrage, to discussions of target selection. As an old teacher of mine once said, "You may have only one chance to choose. Choose wisely".

I was at the Jan 6th rally at the Ellipse from 9am-1:30pm. Nothing in Trump's remarks incited anything. No one was riled up at the Ellipse. I heard one guy nearby calmly discussing provisions of the Constitution. I didn't go to the Capitol because it was bitterly cold. I also attended the Nov14 and Dec12 rallies. Only a fool, a blind man or an intentionally evil person would deny that this election was fatally corrupt. 75million+ Americans know this.
It was widely publicized that Antifa would infiltrate the event to cause trouble. John Sullivan, the BLM leader who was INSIDE the Capitol filming, confirmed that he had met that morning with busloads of antifa/blm rioters.
Capitol police moved the metal barriers aside and let in the marchers. Others opened the doors and literally ushered the marchers inside. Not clear to me when or where the flash bangs and tear gas happened.

But at this point, what is to be done? The purge had started, censorship is hitting hard, and conservative "leaders" have bailed. Unfortunately I don't own a gun, but I will soon.
